Remarks
There is no hostel available for under graduates. There are private hostels and PG available which costs around 7-10k monthly. Also college is very strict and you cant carve way for yourself, you have to do what the college asks. Students are fed up with assignments and lab files. you should join Nirma only if you want job since placement are better compared to other institutes.
Course Curriculum Overview
Course curriculum and exam structure is very rigid and there are hardly any changes in 4-5 years. Whole learning process is years old and there are no major changes. Curriculum is based on bookish knowledge and doesnt prompt student to think out of box. That said industry individuals complained about students not being industry ready, which i found true as an alumnus. 1 day industrial visit were organized in each sem which hardly helped students.
Placement Experience
Placement was below average in the year of 2019 and around 20 students out of a batch of 65 received salary less than 2.5 lakh per annum. Many big industries like Reliance, OPaL, Hindustan Uniliver, Jubilant, SRF, Linde etc conducted tests and interviews. However only 20-25 students received jobs in reputed organisations with acceptable salary. Institute did try to groom students for interview but that was more like jugaad rather than actual grooming. Salary ranged between 4-6 lakh INR per annum by the reputed organisations. 80-85% students were placed and average salary was down to 3 lakh INR per annum.
College Events
There are number of technical and cultural events going on throughout the year. While some are small NUtech held every year has participants from all over the state. Cultural fests has good number of participation and are enjoyable. Cultural fests organized by other institutes in the university are better and more fun to attend. Also fest organized every year by mechanical department is big and even included central cabinet ministers as guest along exhibition from indian armed forces.
Fee Structure And Facilities
For the 2019 batch fee was around 1.44 lakh INR pen annum, which has gradually increased to nearly 2 lakh per annum. College accepts fee through cheque, net banking, DD or paytm. Cash is not accepted. Fee breakdown is very transparent and there are no hidden charges. While securing admission some charges need to be paid which are calculated in the fees later. For student securing admission through AIR, fee of 1 sem needs to be paid in advance which wont be refunded om cancellation if the seat remains empty.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions
I didnt opt for scholarship in college. College provides scholarship to students securing top 3 position throughout the college in the first year. Also scholarship was provided to the economically deprived students based on merit. College offered free books to economically deprived students. Apart from college gujarat govt. provides scholarship for students from gujarat.
Campus Life
Nirma is more like a school than college, you cant have freedom like other institutes. Quality of labs are poor and doesnt offer much help. Parties are not allowed in college and recently i learned they are banned even outside of college(freshers and farewell). Workshop and extra curricular activities are abundant and good. Sports event are held every year but hard to participate in since no attendance in lectures is granted for participation. 85% attendance is required else you need to write assignments. Minimum 65% attendance is compulsory. Gender ratio is very unequal with large amount of male candidates. Students are mostly from gujarat with few students from rajasthan, very few students from other state are present. There is 0 raging and no intolerance based on religion, caste, gender, ethnicity etc.
Hostel Facilities
No hostel available. You have to find either a private hostel or pg for accomodation which costs approximately 7-10k per month. Thats also increases transportation cost based on where you decide to stay.
Alumni/Alumna
Alumni network is quite good and alumni can connect through alma connect. Special sessions are arranged for alumni every year and are really helpful, it is good to learn from their experiences and gives good guidance to students.
Admission
I got admission through my All India Rank which was calculated based on jee and 12th board scores back in 2015. Nirma is one of the most reputed institute in Gujarat and boasted good numbers along with a big and established campus. So based on what Nirma claimed and considering it true i opted for the course. Once the merit list was available, institute called the candidates based on merit list and offered them courses based on higher merit first serve basis. 3 similar rounds happened at institute itself.
Faculty
Faculty of my course was very experienced when i joined initially but institute gradually lost core faculties as i advanced to the graduation phase. For a batch of 65, 19 leacturers were available for the core subjects. When i graduated in 2019 4 faculty were available with more than 20 year experience and holding a doctorate. Around 10 faculty had nearly a decade of experience and rest had lesser experience. Most lecturers were holding a doctorate degree, that said only 4-5 lecturers were expert in what they were teaching. All the professore were below the age of 50 and rarely held any industrial experience, though almost every lecturer had a doctorate degree.
