College under Gauhati University

The college follows course curriculum and syllabus as provided by the Gauhati University. As per the university examinations are conducted at regular time interval in face of internal exams and assessment based evaluation. The entire course duration is divided into semesters where by end semester examinations are held at a gap of each 6 months.

Our college has a placement and recruitment related help centre for Students. However when it comes to getting the students placed with good job packages the institute has almost nothing to offer. A student is on his own for jobs and internships and the college only provides the academic knowledge and degree certification.

The fees of our college is around Rs 8, 000 for the first year that is at the time of taking admission. The fee for the subsequent years is around the same and is required to be submitted at the start of the new academic session each year.

I don't know much about the scholarships and financial assistance program however through the the batch mates I have come to know that the Assam state government extends scholarship to the meritorious students of the state on fulfillment of certain eligibility criteria. Similarly educational loan facility is also there from various private and public sector banks.

In terms of extra curricular activities there are opportunities for students to indulge in sports, drama, music learning, etc. The college organizes events like Bihu festival, freshers party, Independence Day celebration etc on campus. College also has a well stocked library or you can say the central library, a big playground, nicely built in special seminar hall apart from well equipped classrooms and laboratories. All this make our college decent on the infrastructure front.

Getting admission in our college is quite simple one has to make application in offline mode by filling in the detailed application form which is available at the reception of the college along with the prospectus. After submission of the application you have to wait for the approval of college. Once the admission is approved you are required to complete the formalities like submission of fees and document verification. Nowadays admission application is also available online. One reason for opting for this college was that it was close to my residence and was popular in our district.

Faculty member or professors in our Institute are good in terms of quality but when I talk the terms of quantity that is students to teacher ratio then there is a shortage. Full time professors in our college are not in line with the strength of students and their is an extra burden on them in terms of classes to take which hampers their quality of teaching which otherwise would have been better.
