Remarks
College management was good but some faculties(very few) were sadists. But this is all part of any institution and as without the bad, you never find the good ones. 4 years in NIFT and you are ready to face the world of Fashion. NIFT is a culture which grows in you and stays with you.
Entrance Preview
Cleared NIFT common entrance exam with a ranking of 224 and had choosen NIFT for its reputation of being home to free minds.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum was up to date and wonderful in terms of imparting Apparel concepts in the most simplistic manner. Irrespective of ones background it gave a equal platform of everybody to learn from scratch.
Internships Opportunities
A number of companies came for the internships and the faculty helped the students in making right choices. The average stipend was Rs.5000/- per month.
Placement Experience
Placement opportunities are provided to almost all students. Others chose higher studies or made arrangements for themselves via contacts an alumnus. All leading retailers and export houses were part of the placement drive.
College Events
There was on an average of one event every month at college. The campus was very happenning with celebrations of almost all major festivals. In addition, annual inter-NIFT sports week, intra-NIFT sports, Inetr-department sports were organised every year.
Fee Structure And Facilities
We passed out in the old fee structure which was quite low as per course standards. But our junior batches had to pay almost 3 times our fees. That was still less than any course provided by private fashion institiutes.
Fees and Financial Aid
Scholarship was provided on merit cum means basis. But most of the students who availed the scholarships were not hard on means.
Campus Life
Gender ratio was extremely skewed with mostly dominated by girls. Extra-curricular were regularly organised and annual sports meets were events of mass participation. Additionally DJ nights on freshers and other random occasions.
Hostel Facilities
Mess food in lunch was horrible but very cheap. Dinner was relatively better as it was cooked for limited number of students. Although I was not a hostel inmate, the hostel provided to boys were very good.
Alumni/Alumna
Seniors boys were like lost brothers. Senior girls were of course the ones whom we adored. It was always a mystery how the girls transformed from girls next door to divas in senior years.
Exam Structure
The exam structure initially was very confusing as the comparative grading system was evolving. But once the guidelines were understood by everyone including the faculties, the exam experience became a smooth ride. Still there were re-exams in at least 1 subject for 80% of the students mainly due to low attendance and limited sessions in some subjects. For example if there were 2 sessions of one subject in the semester and someone missed 1 session, the student had only 50% attendance which was lower than the minimum requirement of 80%.
Faculty
Faculty was well experienced and qualified. They used creative ways to mould the youngs minds of the students. For most of the students, this was complete new field about which they had no idea what will it lead to.
