Distance learning centre of the Madras University

The Curriculum and syllabus of the course are elaborately defined and keeps in mind the requirements of the modern day needs of the industry. Semester wise examinations are held. Theoretical and practical examinations are conducted as a part of the end semester examination while assignments and short term tests are conducted before the end semester examination for grading and performance evaluation.

Not much is to be expected from the placement. Common pool drives are organised by the University where good number of firms come but not everyone gets a desired package there. Mostly you are on your own for finding jobs and the same is true for the internship. I got to perform the internship with NTPC for which I applied earlier.

The fee of the university is affordable. For a 3 year program one has to pay around 15, 000 rupees which is quite manageable as compared to the private colleges offering this course. The fee is to be submitted at the start of academic year.

I applied for the scholarship offered by Tamilnadu State Government to students from reserved categories. Apart from this kind of scholarship state government also offers scholarship to students from socially and economically backward section of the society. Financial assistance in face of loans is also available from banking Institute.

To be honest I don't have a idea about the extra curricular activities or event celebrations by the university as I was a distance learning education student and I had only access to my Regional centre classes where I used to visit for practicals and examinations. In terms of infrastructure I can say that the centre where I am studying has all the basic amenities and is good enough.

I applied on the official website of the University for admission. I filled in the detailed application form and attached documents like marksheet and school leaving certificate along with it. After verification of the documents I got my name in merit list. Post this I was required to fulfill all the procedural formalities for taking the admission. Since the University of Madras is a popular University I opted for my distance learning education program from this university.

I had a very limited interaction with facualty since I didn't visited the regional education centre of University on a regular basis. However based on the classes I attended I can say that the faculty is knowledgeable and have good grasp over their respective discipline. They have a simple teaching methodology whereby they focus on making sure that each and every student gets to understand what is taught in the class.
