Kerala Kalamandalam

Kerala Kalamandalam is the premiere public institution in India conducting performances and imparting training in performances of the classical arts of Kerala. The Kalamandalam troupes have been sponsored by The Indian Council for Cultural Relations time and again for performances in USA, Australia, Europe and Canada.

The course structure is really good and not that Hectic. The curriculum is really very informative and helpful in shaping my talent. Most of the exams we have here comprise mostly of practical exams and a few theory exams as well.

The placements and job opportunities are abundant if you have completed your course from The Kalamandalam. Our college do provide us with various internship opportunities to increase our exposure. Kalamandalam gives monthly stipend to the students based on the income-status of their families. The upper-income limit to apply for stipend is Rs.1 lakh. The stipend is usually awarded initially for a period of one year. The continuation of stipend for the subsequent years for each student is related to the Progress Report. For those who fall short of marks in the terminal and yearly examinations, stipends will either be withheld or withdrawn. The newly admitted students who are in need of stipend have to apply for the same in the first week of June every academic year.

The fee structure here is really affordable and feasible for all. The fees for the total duration of the course is Rs.5930. Divided as First Year:- Rs.2010 Second Year:-Rs.1960 Third Year:-Rs.1960

Various scholarships are available at Kalamandalam. Distinguished persons from all walks of life have instituted endowments at the Kalamandalam. Some of the major awards are instituted by the disciples and admirers of maestros in Kathakali and similar performing arts. Most of these are cash awards. 1. Vazhekada Kunju Nair Award 2. Here the gender ratio is 1:3 (male:female). All the students here live in complete harmony and there is no discrimination or favouring based on gender, caste, creed or culture. All are equal in the eyes of the teacher and equal opportunities are provided to all.

Kerala Kalamandalam is a residential centre of learning, all students admitted for the regular courses have to stay in the concerned hostels. All the students have to follow the rules and regulations prescribed for the hostel inmates from time to time. The food is strictly vegetarian.

I got admission into this college based on my 12th pass certificate. I chose this course because I had a thing for performing arts right from my childhood days and I wanted to pursue it seriously as a career and there isn't any other college I would rather study this. Kerala Kalmandalam is really famous for its performing arts department.

Kalamandalam is all about the bond between the guru and shishya. Training in art-disciplines at Kalamandalam essentially adheres to the ancient Gurukula sambradaaya, which calls for a deep bond between the teacher and the student.
