Remarks

NIT Trichy is one of the best colleges to study in India. It ranks 1st among other NITs and 8th among overall colleges in India. It is worth every peny and the kind of exposure that the students get is unmatched.

Course Curriculum Overview

5

The syllabus for Production Engineering is pretty conventional, all the base and advanced concepts are provided in the syllabus. But students at NITT have a great opportunity to work under professors in research projects during semesters and also work as interns in the research labs at IIT, IISC, IIM or industries. The level of exposure is great being a student at NITT and there are an ample of student activity clubs where each and every student can find their own interests and groom themselves.

Placement Experience

5

The placements cell at NITT is one of its kind. Recruiters from all over India hire students from NITT for internships and full time jobs. Most of the students who get internships during their 3 rd year most likely get a fulltime offer too. The fulltime job hunts start during the final year and 80% of students secure a job by the end of 7th semester. And the rest secure before they start their final practicals. So the placements rate is pretty high in NITT.

College Events

5

Festember - inter college cultural fest. Pragyan - international tech-management fest. Departmental symposiums - Prodigy for the department of production engineering. Nittfest - intra-college cultural fest. Aaveg - inter hotel sports and cultural fest for freshers Sportsfete - intra college sports festival Horizons - intra college cultural fest for sophomores

Fee Structure And Facilities

Tuition fee for my batch was around 20000 per semester and another 20000 for hotel/mess fees. The tuition fee was doubled for the upcoming batches. However, the fees are moderate for a centralized government college when compared to private colleges.

Fees and Financial Aid

Scholarships are available for students who come under 1000 rank in JEE mains. Apart from that tuition fee will be waived based on category. The college has an SBI bank branch from which educational loans can be availed very easily.

Campus Life

5

The gender ratio is 1:9 (girls:boys). Departments like mechanical, production will have very low girl students. For a class of 100 students only 2 to 5 will be girls. All other departments will have higher ratios. There are plenty of extra-curricular activity clubs for dance, sports, music, robotics, SAE, app and web development, product designing and more.

Hostel Facilities

5

Yes, for first year students, a student can share a room with 2 or 3 other students. From 2nd to 4th year of college, 2 person rooms are available. First year students live in a seperate hostel and they shift to another hostel where they will spend rest of their college years in.

Alumni/Alumna

Networking is very good as juniors can interact wil their seniors during cultural and techno-management festivals. The seniors are friendly and the campus follows a strict no harassment, bullying or ragging rules.

Admission

The admission into NITT is thourough the JEE mains. This examination comes in the month of april every year where they test our skills physics, maths and chemistry (the complete 11th and 12th syllabus). Based on the ranking obtained in JEE mains, we will be allotted courses and colleges for which we need to apply in a common portal for all centralized colleges (except IIT). Once admitted, the course starts in the month of july or august. Production Engineering is a versatile course that has majority of concepts from Mechanical Engineering and some domain specific concepts in manufacturing and industrial engineering streams. People who wish to specialize in design, manufacturing, operations research and supply chain management can opt for this course. I was interested in Mechanical engineering, as i didn't get it for my rank the second best option is Production Engineering.

Faculty

5

All the professors at NITT are post doctorates aging from 35 to 55. The department of production engineering has over 20 professors. The professors know what they teach and they do a pretty good job too. Every professor work on projects that are sponsored by industries, sometimes a professor might also accept UG students to work in these projects.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course curriculum is well designed and covered both fundamental and advanced concepts. We choose elective papers each sem one paper from third sem. That selection of elective papers made us to do case study of real world exposure and competency. The curriculum prepared us for the reasonable real world applications. Also workshops and internships bridged the gap between industry expectations and academics. The teaching methods are really supportive and knowledgeable. On the whole the curriculum was strong and but needs to be imapctful.
