Remarks
College life in masters was one pf the best two years I had ever had. The free periods and the lectures were all about understanding our college and interacting with people from different backgrounds. Overall the experience was amazing and I would love to do it all over again. The management never interfered in student life and actually let us be free.
Course Curriculum Overview
To be honest, the course curriculum was not good for industrial exposure. Learning stuff that they taught you on books is inadequate for you to get placed in companies. The theory was enough to pursue research and development in the same college but not for jobs and campus placement. You need to step out of the classroom to learn more and get placed. Campus placements were minimal with only IT companies present with a few BPOs for computer science students and other civil based companies for respective disciplines. No companies would be there for the Laser and physics departments because no one was approached by the college. The staff of the department were only concerned with finishing the syllabus rather than taking us on IVs or any plants for visits. I had personally gone to RRVAT Indore for my Masters project for half a year during college and stayed there for another year to complete my project.
Placement Experience
As said before, the scene of placement is very bad for the laser department. Placement drives appeared at the end of the year. Only IT companies would appear even for core branches. BPOs would mass recruit and the core companies would take only 2% of the students. 0/15 students were placed in my department and the management didn't care in the least. So, recruiters conducted an aptitude test followed by a general topic discussion and then finally had an F2F interview and that was pretty much it. You'd get a call next day asking to join at once and then calls regularly thouroughout the week inquiring the same.
College Events
A load of symposiums. Lectures by former alumni, leading scientists and several conferences for students- paid/unpaid lectures by scientists in high positions. They practically had over 30 events with leading singers and actors in the events to perform. Tests were conducted once every month. So practically two internal tests and one semester exam.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fees structure was quite ok, manageable at 1LPA, for 2 years. The hostel charges were also separate which amounted to around 60-75k per year. Management quota students had to pay more around 1.5-2LPA for 2 years in donation as well as for fees. Books had to be paid for separately and notebooks were provided within the fees we had paid.
Fees and Financial Aid
I had not opted for scholarships because there weren't any. Scholarships were given to BC/MBC, muslim minority and SC/ST students at around 12000Rs per year being deducted from the fees. Just simply head to the office admin and ger a form for the scholarship, fill it up and submit it to avail the benefits. GATE scholarships were provided to those who entered thourough GATE exam and were given a stipend of 12400Rs a month.
Campus Life
The ratio was 5 boys and 10 girls in our class. There's no gender disparity. But there were no transgender, openly gay students or anyone from the LGBTQQIA+ community in our class. Anna university is a socially accepting college that looks at your education rather than your religious beliefs and sexual orientation. Robotics and other competitions were held in the symposium Kurukshetra once a year.
Hostel Facilities
No because, i came from home. The hostel conditions were actually quite bad with more than 3-4 people in a single room. They had to bathe late at times and due to too many students around 100-1000 students were late to class and were reprimanded.
Alumni/Alumna
Our immediate seniors were helpful to us and actually catered help by sending books and materials. One couldn't expect much more from them because they were concerned with clearing their grades and getting out to the search for jobs. So yeah, alumni interaction was useful for studies and in arranging IVs and Plant visits.
Admission
So basically the entrance into this college is quite easy as it is based on the cut-off marks of your TANCET exams. If you get a good score, you attend TANCA counseling at Anna university, chennai and then select yoir desired college you want to attend along with the course you desire. Apart from that, management quota is also present wherein you pay loads of money as donation and get a seat in the same merit list batch. GATE passed students can also apply for TANCA counseling and attend counseling before the TANCET students.
Faculty
The lessons were taught well in the native language tamil. In terms of teaching north side students or non tamil speakers the teaching was sub par. The staff almost never spoke english and also they were more syllabus oriented rather than teaching out of the box topics. Electives for subjects were decided by the students but the subjects had a hand in the staff deciding them. The staff were all qualified with PhD degrees. The teaching was excellent and the exams were exciting to write. There were only 10 lecturers in the physics department with the oldest being around and the youngest being around 34.
