Remarks

Gec has been known for all good as well as average college but more good as a college its highlight is its uniquely designed campus its placement and campus drive is one of the best in the state and it has a brand named gandhi which has college, institutes not only in orissa but also outside orissa. All in all Gec is one of the finest college I have the privilege to study.

Entrance Preview

I took JEE mains and got all India rank 289956 and state rank 5432 respectively i choose CSE course in gec because it has great campus recruitment in the state and has great faculty to teach. I always want to work on good reputated companies which gec gives platform to get in. One can choose gec college by locking thhe college along with course as first choice during choice locking process and can get into the college.

Internships Opportunities

The internship of gec is very good infact one of the best in the state it gives 85% job placement every year which is outstanding. Since I am currently studying and not gone for internship I cannot tell much but what I hear from my seniors is really good.

College Events

4.5

Gec has mainly 2 fest and one annual sports meet every year the fests are as follows, EUPHONIUS: this is a tech fest conducted by students, ALFRESCO this is a cultural fest. Both the above fest are conducted every year within a span of 10days alongwith these two fest gec conducts a annual sports meet known as SPARKZ. Here the students from different college across state take part in different sports competition like cricket, football, volley, badminton, racing games etc . These competition are held in the gec in campus ground and proizes are distributed to the winners.

Fees and Financial Aid

Gec has mainly two scholarship program for students that is state goverment merit cum scholarship which is for students having scored above 75% in both 10th and 12th board respectively it has a special scholarship for sc/st/obc students. Gec also has scholarship for students who top semester exam in their respective courses and are financial not good.

Campus Life

5

I have been studying in Gec for past 2 years almost but have never or heard any racism or religious issue inside campus. Everyone enjoy equal freedom in and out of campus in Gec their is a high percentage of boys compared to girls like 70:30. There is no college politics in or outside campus against any thing related to institution gec has a great field where students practice cricket, football, volley etc. Gec conducts many state level workshop and seminars.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

Gec has separate hostels for both boys and girls the capacity of both hostels is around 1200 the hostel life is really awesome the hostels for both boys and girls are outside college campus but withhin a radius of 2km from college. The mess food is really average quality as compared to other college but it is manageable since the college campus is within the city their are many PGs available for students who don't want to live in hostel just 4-6km away from college with good transport facilities which cost around 2000-3000inr. The hostel fees and college fees is as follows for 1st year the college fee is 65000 and hostel fee 45000 from 2nd-4th year the college fee is 60000 and hostel and other fee remains the same.

Alumni/Alumna

The alumni of gec is really great as many students are doing jobs in reputated foreign companies and the seniors student and just passed students are really helpful as in they tell which companies require what and how to crack PI and written test during campus drive.

Faculty

4.5

The faculty of Gec is really exceptional as the HOD of respective departments are all P.hD qualifed and the professor and assistant professor have completed their M.Tech from reputated NITS and universities across the country. The course curriculum is absolutely fine and well organized is always completed well before exams it has also special doubt clearing classes everyday.

Course curriculum was very classical , too much theory oriented for placement point of view they will provide last 1 month or 2 months training for aptitude part rest for technical you have to study on your own.

Reviewed on Jan 9, 2026(Enrolled 2023)

Course Curriculum Overview:

1. Relevance & Comprehensiveness (Rating: 7/10) The course curriculum at SOA is updated frequently compared to state government colleges. Why I chose this: I was attracted to the fact that the syllabus includes modern electives like Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing, and Data Analytics starting from the 3rd year itself, rather than waiting for the final semester. Real-world Prep: The curriculum is designed largely to crack placement interviews. There is a heavy focus on Aptitude and Core Coding subjects (DS/Algo) which helps in getting a job. However, for deep research or R&D roles, the theoretical depth is sometimes lacking. 2. Areas for Improvement Teaching Methods: A major issue is the reliance on PowerPoint Presentations (PPTs). Many faculty members just read off the slides. I would prefer more "Whiteboard Teaching" for mathematical and logic-based subjects. Lab Records: We spend hours handwriting practical records/files which are just copied from the manual. This is a waste of time. This time should be used for live coding projects or hackathons. Outdated Subjects: First-year students (even in CS/IT) are forced to learn heavy mechanical/civil concepts. While basics are good, the depth of these non-core subjects should be reduced. 3. Exam System & Difficulty Frequency: It is quite hectic. We have 2 semesters a year. Each semester has 2 Internal Assessments (Quizzes/Mid-sems) and 1 End-Semester Exam. Basically, you have an exam every 1.5 to 2 months. Difficulty: The exams are Easy to Moderate. It is not very difficult to pass. If you study the "Class Notes" and "Previous Year Questions" for 3-4 days before the exam, you can easily score an 8.0 SGPA. The checking is lenient for passing, but strict if you are aiming for a 9.5+ SGPA.

I actually have a very little idea about placements of our uni few seniors says there is not a single company visiting, while few were discussing the highest placement which was something like 20lpa or something,i think companies do visit our campus it may not be much but i have definetly seen one or two companies visiting. I plan to do MBA after my Btech so i am not that serious about whether i am getting placed or not.

Gandhi Engineering College (GEC Autonomous), Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Computer Science and Engineering)
Reviewed on Dec 22, 2025(Enrolled 2023)

Course Curriculum Overview:

I mainly chose this course because the college is Autonomous, which allows them to update the syllabus faster than standard university colleges; seeing subjects like Python and Data Science in the early semesters really influenced my decision. The curriculum is decent for getting placed in service-based companies like TCS or Wipro since they focus heavily on the basics and aptitude, though for high-end product roles or research, you have to put in extra effort yourself. I definitely think they need to reduce the theory load and focus more on practical coding because sometimes it feels like we are just writing assignments instead of building things. Also, the junior faculty rely too much on reading from slides, which really needs to change to make classes more engaging. As for exams, it feels like we are always writing them since we have two internals and one end-semester exam per term. They are moderately difficult and the checking is strict, so you can't slack off, but the tight schedule can get quite exhausting.
