Remarks

To be honest, the college is nothing but a franchise of the main campus which is located in Mumbai. The college uses the brand name of the main campus to attarct students. Although, the management claims to doing everything for the students in Bangalore campus, they cannot do anything as they don't have any power in their hands, be it in budgetary issues, fund allocation for events, placements, exams and even the decision regarding closure of college due to COVID-19.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

The course is unique. Since it B.Sc. Economics rather than the conventional BA Economics, it is more quantitative in nature. The course offers quantative aspects through subjects like Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, etc. The course is also highly research oriented as candidates need to write a group research paper in semester 3, an individual seminar paper in semester 4 and a final individual dissertation (research paper) in semester 5 and 6. The course gives candidates the practical knowledge of industry as we are taught R, SPSS and Excel with case studies. Nonetheless, the course also offers non-quantitative subjects as compulsory subjects- like Sociology, Psychology, Political Science, Behavioral Economics, Accountancy, etc. No, we were not taken to any industrial visit. However we all worked in atleast one internship in 3 years.

Placement Experience

1.5

The placement cell which is completely student led organises placements. The placements to be honest are not satisfactory as core economics recruitment is hardly done. Most of the job offers focus on sales, business development and finance. Since most of the students in B.Sc. Economics go ahead to study Masters or MBA, not many students opt for placement after UG. Out of the few students who apply for placements, 30-40% get placed from college.

College Events

2.5

The college holds a few events. Notable events are- UG Cultural Fest- Aura PG Management Fest- Nityaksh And several economics and finance seminars. Since the Bangalore Campus is just 10 years old and lie in the outskirts of the city, contestants hardly come from colleges from the main city. Moreover, the UG fest is just 2 years old. It would be wrong to say that these fests are big.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is one of the costliest courses in India for undergraduate. The course is 2.5 lacs p.a for 3 years. The college accepts online payment and through draft as well. The college provides a rough breakdown of the fee structure. The fee structure breakdown consists of tuition fees, library charges and security deposit.

Fees and Financial Aid

Our college doesn't provide scholarships of any type to any student. The annual fee of 250000 is fixed for everyone.

Campus Life

4

Gender ratio is really balanced with atleast 1:1. Moreover, in my department the ratio is more than 1:1 for female to male. NMIMS Bangalore has a theatre society, a cultural society, a finance club, an economics club, a sports club, a band. Parties are both official and unofficial ( arranged in clubs). The population is diverse. Although it is located in South India about 80% of the students are from north, west and east India. The college is really liberal and tolerant towards all gender and race. Girls are never frowned upon for their choice of apparels. There's no such gender biased restrictions whether it is in college campus or hostel. The economic status for most of the candidates are really high. Due to the high fee structure only upper middle class and upper class people can afford to join.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

I opted for the hostel only for the first year. Hostels are decent with option for AC/NON AC rooms and option for single bed or double bed sharing. The hostel offers TV, Washing Machine, Geysers and all the basic amenities. The food is hygienic. However due to the exorbitant price, 90% of the students shift out of the hostel after 1st year to rent apartments and PGs. The monthly rent of PGs are 15-20k per month.

Alumni/Alumna

Since our UG batch is only 4 years old and our PG batch is only 10 years old, the alumni network in terms of size as well as efficiency is really low, almost next to zero. The current students neither interact with the alumni, nor the alumni participate in any event or help in recruitment opportunities.

Admission

I got the admission after clearing the entrance examination NPAT hich generally takes place in May each year. The admission entrance examination consists of 3 components which are English, Basic Mathematics and Logical Reasoning. I secured a rank of 1500 and got selected for B.Sc. Economics in NMIMS Bangalore. Factors for joining this institution: 1. Few colleges offer B.Sc. Economics course throughout India. 2. Brand Name of the institution. 3. Located at the corporate city of India.

Faculty

4.5

Faculty of the institution is excellent. Most of the faculties hold PHD and have relevant industry experience and certifications like CA, CFA. Most of the courses are taught by professors who are highly equiped in that particular area of economics. For example, Public Finance and Environmental Economics is taught by a professor who studied Public Policy in ISEC and took up Environmental Economics in his PHD Thesis. Same applies for other facilities. Some of the non quantitative courses are taught my professors who have completed their masters at minimum.

Students become eligible from the 5th semester. The university also conducts placement drives and skill development workshops. Out of the various companies, some of the reputed ones include Goldman Sachs, KPMG, EY, Deloitte, De Shaw, etc. The average package is around 7 to 8 lakhs but 60% students opt out from placements for further education. I plan to study a master's degree in business economics after my undergraduate studies.

We only have 2 batches, 1st Year and 2nd Year. But for now, among our seniors 60% of them hold internships and others are either building something or scaling their skills. For now, we don't have any placement records but according to scaler academy, it will be aroung 24 Lakhs.
