Remarks
More societies and clubs would help in all-round development of students. Great, probably the best for academics but social hobbies and debate, poetry, drama clubs etc should be encouraged amongst students.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course structure is wide, we have many, many subjects. Unlike other departments,we don't have the choice to select our subjects,i. e, our course is pre-made and the same for all students. In the last year, we do have electives which is based on what majority of students decide, and based on individual decisions. We have continuous evaluation system, called CE's. There are two CEs before the final exams. The first CE is choice-based--can pick any form of evaluation amongst seminar, group discussion, written test, open-book test etc. CE-1 itself has two parts- one for 15 marks and the other for 10marks and both are choice-based. The second CE is an online MCQ exam for 25 marks. The semester concludes with end semester exams that is for 50 marks.
Placement Experience
The placement opportunities are pretty decent considering it is a general degree college. We have companies like DE SHAW, ACCENTURE,INFOSYS, DELOITTE etc coming to our college. The highest package offered was by DE Shaw at 17. 5 LPA.
College Events
All the departments have their fests in one week of the year and the entire college has cultural festival, traditional day,and saree/tie day. Apart from this, there are events held around the year with eminent alumni coming as well as celebrities interacting with the students. There are regular campus drives for volunteer recruitment and all sorts of activities.
Fee Structure And Facilities
For my course, there are two fee structures- for students from Maharashtra, it is 50,000/year and for students or of Maharashtra,it is 82,000/year. For other departments like BA, it's no more than 5-6,000 for grant-in aid students. Overall, feasible considering the reputation and quality of education.
Fees and Financial Aid
Haven't availed any scholarship but scholarships are available for people from reserved category which is available once a year. However, the documentation is a lot of work and it is compulsory for all reserved category students despite of their financial backgrounds.
Campus Life
The gender ratio is biased towards females in biology-based departments but other departments maintain a healthy ratio. There is a lot of diversity in terms of student nationalities. Every class in every department has an international student. There is NSS and NCC for people interested to join along with college sports team. No religion intolerance or sexual harassment on campus reported.
Alumni/Alumna
Alumni are invited for sessions wherein they tell us how their experience after college has been, along with ideas about future prospects of the course. This kind of over-to-one conversation with seniors help students to curate their path after college and get in touch with other alumni, if needed.
Admission
I had applied online through the college website and after waiting for about 3-4 weeks, after the state board,CBSE,as well as ISC results came out,a merit list was released on the college website along with instructions to come for the admissions. The admission procedure took place in around 3-4 rounds,I got admission in the first round itself. The reason I chose FC over other colleges like St. Xavier's Mumbai and Ahmedabad is because of the legacy of this college and its location. Moreover, it's the best college for UG in biotechnology, a field that is still uncommon in India.
Faculty
The faculty members of the college are exceptional. They are experts in their fields and very approachable. They try to make teaching more interactive and really appreciate feedback. They try to incorporate many changes in their teaching methods and teach beyond the limits of textbook. Autonomy gives this freedom to the teachers and it really helps the students to learn more compared to the students from the same course in a different college.
