Remarks

Th college, academic wise is very excellent but i cannot agree with the other infrastructures. The college is situated 3 km from the hospital which is in a way good and another way bad. The place is not attractive, actually thoothukudi is an industrial area with very few picnic spots with no greenery except for the beaches. The food available are not very good. The climate will be harsh but we have to tolerate this all to be successful medicos.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

This year the MBBS curriculum has changed and we are the first batch under the CBME(competency based medical education) and we are now called the Indian Medical Graduate(IMG). Under the CBME curriculum a lot of changes have been introduced both in practical and theory part. Now we have ECE(Early clinical exposure)sessions and SDL(Self directed learning)sessions and sessions focused on communication skills. There's even sports under the new curriculum So we have some amount of chilling and easiness compared to the earlier batches.

Placement Experience

4

Since this is a government medical college there are no direct placements.Under the MBBS course there is a one year compulsory internship in the name CRRI, usually called as the house surgeons. CRRI stands for compulsory rotatory residential internship. The students on passing the final year exam will have to be a house surgeon under various departments of the college. Within one year the students will get a huge amount of experience which will help them with their career.

College Events

3.5

The college is not only about academics. We have a handsome number of fests and programs. Since this is a medical college frequent conferences and meetings are conducted by various departments. They are very well conducted and attract a lot of medical professionals. For students we have the hostel day function, Tamil mandram which shows the love and respect for the Tamil language, The annual cultural and sports meet under the name RADIANCE. All the programs are conducted with enthusiasm and so much vibe.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Since this is a medical college the fees is very low compared to that in private colleges. Here we have a tuition fee of about 16000 per annum and exam fees of about 13k. We have to buy the textbooks and notebooks along with the records which all sum upto about 10000. The hostel fees varies month to month averaging to about 6000, ie about 72000 per annum. So cumulating all these the total fee will be around 1 lac.

Fees and Financial Aid

There are no scholarships directly issued by the college. But most of us are eligible to get scholarships from various organisations and government too with the authorisation of the college. Since the fees are very low there is a minimal need of taking loans.

Campus Life

3

The college provides us with sports events and culturals inorder to boost our our extracurricular activities.we also have an NSS unit and have separate secretaries for gardening, sports, arts, etc. Our batch consists of 150 students among which 69 are boys the rest girls. The family includes majority tamils, 16 keralites and 5 north indians. We have high tolerance anong ourselves irrespective of caste, religion and gender.

Hostel Facilities

2

I reside in the medical college hostel. Its about half a kilometre from our college. The surroundings are spacious. We have a large ground with basketball court, volleyball court and cricket nets and football court. We have a moderately equipped gym. The food is not very nice and the menus repeats. The rooms are pretty decent, with sufficient light and ventilation. The corridors are cleaned often and we have a laundry system too.

Alumni/Alumna

The seniors are our true motivators and supporters as they help us adjust with our new environment. They always tries to uplift and make us an independent student and a future doctor. We are not exposed to the alumnis till now but always looking forward to. As of information given to us, they are all well settled and work all over india and abroad.

Admission

I got this college after repeating NEET for one year in in brilliant Study Centre, Pala. In the 2018 neet exam i scored only 225 marks but after repeating i got 591 marks. My AIR(All India Rank) was 9991 and kerala rank 1289.Since the last rank for general category admission was 820 i didn't get a college in kerala so i applied through AIQ and got the admission at Thoothukudi government medical college. After getting alloted i had to submit some 10 documents which included Aadhar card, Ration card, Eligibility certificate(equivalent certificate for 12 exam issued by Dr MGR university), Exam Certificates, etc.I had to pay a sum of around 20 k during the admission.

Faculty

4.5

We are lucky to have and amazing group of faculties in all the departments. Eventhough our college is not in the top 10 best medical colleges in tamilnadu, our faculties are the best in tamilnadu. They are very supportive and caring. They are working hard to make us feel comfortable with the new curriculum of cbme. They are our true motivators. All of them have years of teaching experience and skills.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course is very extensive and there are 18 subjects to study split over a period of 5 years which includes internship also. Though the curriculum is vast it is a scared job that has motivated me to choose this course. The curriculum and teaching methods help us in treating patients and improving our academics. Improvements that can be made includes improving the patient exposure and communication skills with practical expertise. The exams are conducted yearly once, with the paper being moderate to difficult. There should be more clinical orientation to improve clinical skills rather than only studying books and improving knowledge

Course Curriculum Overview:

I personally like science so i took up this course. The college prepares you very well for the real world. By the end of the 5years you would become a full fledged doctor. The current teaching methods are fine but more of mcqs should be concentrated rather than theory writing. According to me the internals are fine but the university exams are very difficult.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The Competency Based Medical Education (CBME) is pretty relevant to today's needs of a doctor, with more competency based skill learning and regular assessment of students, along with subjects like attitude, ethics and communication skills, pandemic modules etc. The only disadvantage is it still has a few redundant systems such as record maintenance etc.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Being a doctor, I can help people a lot. There is a lot to study and knowing the human body, to cure disease, and much more is a great experience. The curriculum prepares me to do great in my future endeavors. The thing I think they lack is a bit more clinical exposure for all students separately. Teaching methods are all good. They conduct exams after each important section, they teach. Around 6-7, internal exams are kept.
