Course Curriculum Overview
Since pillai college is affliated to Mumbai University , the course curriculum is same as all other non-autonomous colleges. For the first and last year the paper is checked by University. For 2nd and 3rd year the paper is checked in college itself. In first year each semester has 6 subjects with 3 subjects of 60 marks and 3 of 80 marks in final semester exams. You can get the detailed syllabus in Mumbai University site. Then the assignments and all all are very much manageable. What's different in our college is the seriousness for studies. The faculties are very much serious to teach you and will look upon your attendance especially in first year. But they are not that strict as well, 75% will do. The worst is you'll have to do some extra assignments.
Internships Opportunities
Yes, our college provides internship in college or outside college. For outside college internships you'll either have to find it in internshala as we have a tie-up with them otherwise college have interview based internships as well. The college internship is generally conducted in research labs which are technical internships. So the internship opportunities are really good if you want to take the advantage of opportunity and have proper skills.
Placement Experience
So for placements our college is also like other mediocre Mumbai University college having average placement in range of 3.5- 4 lacs per annum. One can get higher package provided they have non-common skills and intellect. Since we are one of the best navi Mumbai college, the companies located there come to our college and give placements. Our college takes special concentration in placing students by conducting placement dedicated periods from 2nd year itself which involves GD, aptitude etc trainings.
College Events
The biggest and highlighted event that happens in our college is ALEGRIA. This college festival is well known all over india and specially in Mumbai. Alegria was one of my reason to join pillai college. The fun and memories that takes place during that one week of festival is irreplaceable and i don't think any other college in Mumbai has that big star-line to appear in any college fest. Besides alegria there are general rose day, saree day and other events that takes place throughout the year. Many ither community services and uber- rang like event's occur in our college which are never less.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fees structure is slightly expensive compared to other colleges. The fees is approx 1.2lacs per year. The hostel fees are real high which is equal to the college fees which is definitely not justified.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions
There are loan facilities for most of the major banks. The scholarship is available for Maharashtra students who belong to SC/ST/OBC caste. There is also a TFWS scholarship and EBC scholarship available.
Campus Life
The labs are very decent. Surprisingly there is a research lab in our college which is a very good thing. Computer labs have old monitors which are manageable. The chemistry and physics labs are good enough. Taking about sports our college has the top football team for the university matches. Although the cricket team is not that well still they are also good. First year students can't go into sports because college tries to concentrate on there academics. But after 1st year any student can show interest and play for the team.
Hostel Facilities
Girls hostel infrastructure is good, they have pool table to play and other indoor games also and is also very next to the college. But boys hostel has less facilities compared to girls but they are still fine. But the hostel fees is not justified according to the hostel. There are rooms where max 6 people can share and there are also one person rooms available.
Alumni/Alumna
The alumni network of our college is becoming quite good recently. The CSI committee initiated a program annually where pass out students share there interview and job experience so that it can be a help for junior students.
Exam Structure
For first year the exam structure is, for 3 subjects the final exam is of 6p marks each and there are 2 term tests which are conducted in between semester and their average is taken and total marks are calculated out of 100(75+25 termwork) and for the rest 3 subjects the final exam is of 80 marks and term test is of 20 marks each. For the rest of years, there are 5 subjects in each semester and 80 marks final exam and 20 marks each for the term tests.
Admission
So i gave CET as we all do to get enrolled in Maharashtra colleges. For Maharashtra seat all you need is to have a Maharashtra domacile. So i filled college options or order of priority of colleges in DTE site and waited for the list to come. As I'm a malayalee, i got my college with computer branch in first list itself and i was happy and confirmed my seat. If you have marks in the range 95-105 i think you can get pillai college in 3rd list in worst case. Due to linguistic minority, it is very easy for malayalee's to get pillai college with computer branch with even 50-60 marks.
Faculty
Faculties in our college are very serious about teaching since they are also judged upon their teaching based upon our feedback. So if a teacher doesn't teach well, they will be demoted. I think my first year pointer was because of this reason as i was new to the curriculum but the teaching was good so i managed to score 7.96 and 8.48 im 1st and 2nd semester which was checked by University.
