College Review

SRM gives a lot of freedom opportunity compared to other colleges. It is very clean and green and provides and needs inside the campus itself. But it needs to work on quality of faculty and more hands on. No. of exams should be reduced and fees should be reduced too.

Curriculum is quite outdated. Most of the subjects are just theory and students just mug up to get marks. There is very less hands on experience and skill development. No. of exams here are too much. We give 3 internal theory exam, 2 practical exam and 1 external exam for each subject. Along with that we have surprise test too.

Over 90% students of CSE, IT and Software department get on campus placement. But most of them are mass recruiter. Students of other departments face placement problem and they too depend on IT companies for placement. Few companies come to provide internship to 6th semester students. Stipend is around Rs. 5000.

SRM has too major fests, Aaruush is a techno management fest held in September. Milan is cultural fest held in March. They run for 4 and 5 days respectively. Along with that, there are many small 1 day events, music nights, dance shows and competitions.

Fees for students ranked under SRMJEEE is 2.5 lakhs and 3.5 lakhs for others. Along with that, hostel fee is 1 lakh. This amount is very high to pay and many students take loan to pay it. Hostel fees is very high and amenities are not provided according to that.

Students ranked under 1000 receives 100% and 50% scholarships. Few students of sports quota get scholarships too. Also top performers of each department receive 100% scholarships. During counseling time, many banks visit campus to provide loans to students.

College has more than 20 clubs and tech teams. College provide good funding to them for any kind of necessities. Every year, 3-4 sports events are held. We have 1 400 m track, 2 basketball court, 2 tennis court, 1 indoor badminton courts, and 2 grounds for cricket and football respectively.

There are combinations of hostel for AC, Non AC, attached and separate bathrooms. Students get just a simple bed, a metal chair and a simple desk without drawer. These amenities are too less on account of the fees charged. Mess food is fine and have both, North Indian and South Indian Cousine.

Alumni network is not quite good right now. The college alumni department doesn't have enough staff and is not properly funded. Every year an Alumni day and 1 25 year reunion is conducted. Students get a chance to interact with alumni in these events.

I gave the entrance exam named SRMJEEE. Questions were of moderate level. After few days result was announced and I was called for selecting engineering branch and campus. The seats were given on the basis of rank achieved by students. Students ranked under 1000 were given scholarships.

Some of the faculties are good. They have good knowledge of subject. But most of the faculties don't even have proper knowledge. They simply mug up few formulas and read pots in class. Even faculty don't have practical knowledge.
