Remarks
The college management is poor, takes a lot of time to get a new machine in a kitchen if an old one gives away. In short, it's a good college, but I'd suggest to go to private colleges owned by Oberoi or ITC or Taj. They are better in terms of quality of
Entrance Preview
I took the NCHMCT JEE and got an AIR of 207. I opted for this course because I want to pursue my passion for cooking.
Course Curriculum Overview
The structure is efficient, with optimal balance between theory and practicals. Both of them go in line and are easy to grasp. The curriculum is fairly easy and covers just the right aspects, not more. Since this is a practical field, there is not much focus on research.
Internships Opportunities
Internship is a 17 weeks course in a hotel of the student's choice, if he manages to crack the interview. Otherwise, the college chooses a hotel for the student. Average stipend provided is 1000 INR. We get to work in the four main departments of a hotel and get to face the real industry for the first time. It's a necessary experience.
Placement Experience
Since this is the top college in India, the placements, no doubt are better than anywhere else. A lot of international chains like Starwood, IHG, Hyatt, Carlson Rezidor, Marriott and the top Indian brands like Oberoi, Taj, ITC come here first during the placement session. Almost all the students get a placement. Around 95%.
College Events
A lot of cultural events are celebrated throughout the year on most special occasions like Independence Day, Republic Day, Teacher's Day, Diwali, Lohri, Holi and a few other holidays, including the Annual Day celebration. Events such as dance, singing, plays, social interaction are staged.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Since this is a government college, the fee structure is highly feasible, costing around 43k for tuition fees for a semester, stretching over a three year course. The hostel fees include room rent and mess charges, and amount to 36k per semester. Electricity and water charges are charged at end semester, around 1900 per student.
Fees and Financial Aid
Scholarships are offered by the central government. There are various for top performers for a year and for reserved category students based on their AIR in the entrance exam. There are also scholarships for physically disabled students, special students from the army sector.
Campus Life
The campus is rather small. Just about 5 acres. There is a gym with good equipment. There is a volleyball court, a basketball court, a table tennis, a library. Gender diversity is around 5:3 for boys and girls. Students are from almost all regions of India, some NRI students even from Nepal or UAE. There is 100% tolerance towards any caste, race, religion, sexual orientation, politic or economical status.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel facilities are basic, nothing great. The rooms are spacious, triple sharing till second year and single seater for third year. The bathrooms and corridors are cleaned everyday. Mess food is simple and nutritious. Often tasty. Often not. The mes
Alumni/Alumna
The alumni network is quite good. Reknowned chef Sanjeev Kapoor is an alumni of this college, as are some people in the topmost positions in brands such as ITC or Taj. The seniors are helpful, providing good assistance whenever needed. Other reknowned people such as chef Vikas Khanna visit the college on occasions to interact with the students.
Exam Structure
The internals are spread throughout the semester. The end semester exams have both theory and practical. The exams are fairly easy with most of the focus on practical knowledge than theory. Theory and practical are both connected deeply so it's easy to ac
Faculty
The faculty is average. There are some good teachers, there are some bad ones. Some are under qualified. There are ones who actively help nurture a student's interest in the subject, while some others are outwardly boring to learn from. There are many tea
