SRM Institute of Science and Technology

SRM is a mixed feeling for me. It's good and bad both, just like our lives. It is however a significant part of my youth years and will be cherished for ever. Being in the last year of my college, it's a bittersweet feeling. Selecting your college is more important a decision than most people realise. Not only does the value of your Degree depend on it but also the overall shaping of your personality depends on it.

SRM course curriculum for information technology, includes theory as well as practicals. The first year curriculum is common for all students where we have to study maths, biology, electrical, physics, mechanical, engineering graphics, programming, civil and chemistry subjects. It is the most challenging year for most students. After the first year, the following curriculum revolves around your stream subjects only.

There is plenty of opportunity to get a good placement in SRM. One must keep a consistent CGPA and academic record. There is also a huge factor of luck in placement examinations. SRM keeps companies coming for the whole year for students to grab and get placed. However there are rules regarding absenteeism. There is also categorization of companies based on salaries.

Aaruush and Milan are the main two fests of SRM. Aaruush is the technical fest and Milan is a cultural fest. Both are grand and amazing to attend. Both include events that involve big celebrities and musical dj nights and a lot of fun. Apart from these several small events keep taking place on campus, such as jhalak shuru etc. SRM campus is always bustling with activities.

The hostel fee structure is actually expensive from my point of view. The hostel charges for non ac rooms are equivalent to living in a flat nearby. The tuition fee structure is similar to any private college of engineering.

My friends have got scholarships up to 50,000 on the semester fee. So it is there. Also student education loan is also provided by college on interest. I am unsure of the exact procedures but I have heard about it.

Srm is GREAT for extracurricular activities. There is a plethora of options to choose from. There are zillions of clubs and groups present for dance, drama, singing, social work, media, fashion etc etc. Sports is also really good here. Football, basketball courts are present. An indoor badminton area is also there. Students also play cricket.

Hostel does incorporate everything that one would need like laundry, food shops, gym, entertainment etc. Except the mess food is monotonous, rules and in time issues are present and fee is pretty high. I was in hostel for first 2 years after which I shifted out. The new girls hostel is made well however fee is high.

Maintaining relationships with the seniors has always helped be and will continue to do so to anyone in SRM. They've been through everything and experience is the best teacher. Seniors and their experience has helped me from getting better grades at my subjects to even gaining confidence in my job interviews. They're always ready to help and even talk to the faculty if need be.

I appeared for SRMJEE in April 2016 along with other entrance examinations such as JEE, Bitsat etc. I got a rank of roughly 14,000 in SRMJEE. Then I was called for counseling on Campus in May. After making my decision of joining the college I went to SRM in May. We had to select our streams, I chose Information Technology as I was interested in programming since a young age.

It is a mixture of positive and negative. There are some excellent, warm, knowledgeable and kind faculty members present in SRM who are always ready to help and get you out of trouble. However there are also demotivating, rude, biased and irrational faculty members who are ready to break you down without a rhyme or a reason.
