I recently got into the MBA program at IIM Udaipur, and I can tell you that the experience is fantastic. The curriculum allows you to choose electives after the first year, making it tailored to your interests. Sure, the fees are high, but the opportunities for internships and placements are worth it. Companies like Accenture and Pidilite come for placements, and while the average may be around 19.5 lakhs, it’s a great stepping stone for a successful career. Government jobs are stable, but IIM Udaipur could lead to faster growth.

Choosing between an IIM Udaipur MBA and an SSC level government job really depends on what you value. With IIM Udaipur, you’re looking at a two-year MBA program where the fees are roughly 22 lakhs. The campus life is vibrant, with tons of activities and networking opportunities. Plus, the average package for placements is around 19.5 lakhs, which is quite good. If you want to work in the corporate sector with better pay and opportunities for growth, IIM U is a solid choice!

The decision ultimately rests on your career goals. Don’t just follow opinions; pursue your interests and aspirations. You’ll find greater success by chasing your dreams rather than adhering to conventional wisdom.

IIM Udaipur, while relatively new, does not compromise on quality. The brand of IIM can open many doors if you're eager to seek out opportunities.

On the other hand, cracking the CGLE can secure you a government job, typically in non-gazetted roles. However, you may find that promotions and performance incentives are quite limited, and job appreciation can be minimal. Some departments, like Foreign Services and HRD, may offer chances to explore different locations.

Take the time to brainstorm about your desires and the actions needed to achieve them. This will help you navigate through this confusion!

Honestly, choosing IIM Udaipur for an MBA over a government SSC job comes down to your career aspirations. The MBA program is intensive and the campus life is filled with events and clubs that help build connections. The fees are hefty at 22 lakhs, and while you might not find scholarships if you're from the general category, the potential for a high-paying job is there. The average placement package is around 19.5 lakhs, which is really appealing compared to the fixed nature of government jobs. If you’re looking for excitement and growth, IIM U is the way to go!

Last year, I faced a similar dilemma. I cracked CAT 2016 and received offers from various IIMs, but I was also preparing for the SSC CGL 2016 exam. After discussing with friends, colleagues, and family, I chose to skip the admission process that year for several reasons:

  • High Investment: Pursuing a PGDM from IIMs requires a significant financial commitment. The fees for two years at newer IIMs are around 15-16 lakhs, and even higher for the older ones.
  • Family Background: Coming from a middle-class family, we didn't have that kind of money readily available. Loans would have been the only option to finance my PGDM at IIM or any other reputed private college. By the time we could repay the loans, the total amount would have reached 18-20 lakhs.
  • Lack of Orientation: Personally, I wasn't particularly inclined towards pursuing an MBA. I took the CAT exam mainly to assess my skills and see where I stood. Surprisingly, I ended up with a decent percentile and proceeded through the further admission process.
