PGP:-
The two-year full-time Post-Graduate Programme in Management (PGP) is the flagship program of IIMs. Its primary goal is to transform young men and women into skilled professional managers, capable of thriving in any sector of organized activity, driving leadership, and achieving excellence in performance while contributing to the welfare of society. The program specifically aims to:

  • Equip students with essential conceptual and interpersonal skills and a sense of social responsibility for managerial decision-making.
  • Develop leadership qualities to act as change agents and motivate others in their organizations.
  • Foster a desire to excel in performance while upholding integrity, honesty, and fairness.

It is equivalent to the Masters in Management program for entry to mid-career professionals. It is generally at a slightly higher level than MIM and slightly below MBAs offered by universities abroad.

PGDM:-
A Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) is a diploma course provided by institutes recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) that are autonomous and not affiliated with any university.

PGP is the program, not just a course. All postgraduate programs fall under PGP. Here’s what you need to know:

  • PGDM: No work experience is required to apply. It’s a 2-year course. Graduates typically become general managers and can apply to companies across various sectors like HR, Finance, Marketing, Operations, etc.
  • PGP ABM: Also requires no work experience for application. This is a 2-year course as well. The first year is the same as PGDM, while the second year focuses on specialization in ABM. Placements differ, primarily targeting food and agriculture-based profiles.
  • FPM: This is the research-oriented course! Some prior experience or strong proof of inclination is needed to join. It takes about 4–6 years to complete, depending on how you finish your FPM thesis. It’s similar to a PhD. You become a research scholar and get paid for working with professors on campus. Graduates usually pursue careers as professors or researchers in private or public firms.

Best wishes!
