How was your first day in class at KNIT Sultanpur?

I'm from the 2012-16 batch, studying electrical engineering. Even though I'm in my final year now, I can still vividly recall my first day at KNIT. It was on August 20, 2012, when I stepped into the college and was amazed by the green campus. But things changed when I headed to the academic section; seniors caught up with me. On my way to the hostel, they told me to keep my eyes down and scolded me.

When I got to the hostel, room assignments began and were finished by 8:30 am. The hostel warden then told us to get ready for the college orientation by 11 am. We were all excited, but then around 11 am, a group of about 20 seniors came into the hostel, yelled at us, and laid down the rules: like wearing formals with shoes and a tie even outside class, and greeting everyone, including the sweepers and guards, with a good morning or evening.

After a long talk, they took us around to show the campus, labs, workshop, library, canteen, and bank. This orientation lasted two hours, and throughout, they ragged us and interacted with the newbies. Luckily, this phase ended after the fresher’s event, and the seniors became friendly. They helped us with studies, assignments, and even placements. There’s a lot of time here to learn new things and discover yourself. The classes are mostly just for show. Overall, my time at KNIT has been fantastic.

My first day at KNIT Sultanpur was a mix of excitement and anxiety. I remember walking into the campus, and the first thing that struck me was how spacious and green it was. The faculty seemed approachable, and I felt a sense of relief as they were supportive and willing to help us settle in.

The day consisted of orientation sessions where we learned about the course curriculum for B.Tech. The schedule was laid out, and I found out we would have two class tests and one final exam in each semester. Overall, it felt welcoming, but I also noticed that the teaching methods could use some modernization to keep up with current industry standards.

Here's how my first day at KNIT Sultanpur went...

We got to campus two days before classes started. I was staying in the Aryabhatta hostel. It was an exciting time as we prepared to kick off our college journey. Around 9 in the morning, we found out that first-year students had to line up and walk with some faculty members.

That's when things got interesting...

While we were making our way down this long, empty path between our hostel and the main road to the college building, some seniors in casual clothes showed up and started yelling at us. "Third button" was a popular command among them. Those wearing t-shirts got a lot of flak and were told to wear formal shirts. The air was filled with harsh words, but since no one was singled out, we didn't take it too seriously. This was my first real taste of ragging.

We were all pretty shaken up by then.

Then came the classes.

The CSE branch got stuck with a really bad classroom. The other departments had new ones. Ours had ceiling fans covered in cobwebs, and it seemed like no one had cleaned the floors, benches, or windows in ages. Everything was super dusty.

There were only a few fans in the class, and we ended up sitting in a corner, sweating a lot.

And this was after they'd supposedly cleaned up.

After some time, a few faculty members came in, and we met the CSE coordinator. We found out that the first thing on the agenda was the Art of Living (AOL) induction program. Initially, we weren't thrilled, especially with the "Soooooo Hammmm" exercise and the lecture. Some parts were interesting, but it's hard to focus when you're drenched in sweat.

We got grouped for different campus activities, like planting trees or cleaning the classroom. Our group leader picked cleaning. I couldn't help but think, why not just plant some trees and be done with it?

But in the end, we realized that the program helped us get to know each other quickly and make some good friends. So I'd say, always join these programs—they're fun!

After our first session of classes, we headed back to the hostel. The evening snacks were decent, and then we went to our rooms. This was when we really started bonding with the people nearby. We hung out in each other's rooms, got to know each other, chatted, and everyone had a blast on their first day of college, with a few surprises along the way.

On my first day at KNIT Sultanpur, I was introduced to the B.Tech curriculum and got to meet some of my classmates. The faculty were friendly and eager to help, which eased my nerves a bit. However, I noticed that the curriculum seemed a bit outdated, and I thought that more practical knowledge could have been integrated into our learning.

We also had an orientation about the hostel facilities, and I was relieved to find out that the accommodation was decent. The campus was buzzing with energy, and I was looking forward to engaging in the various clubs and activities available.

The first day at KNIT Sultanpur was quite memorable for me. I was really excited to start my B.Tech journey. The campus was beautiful, and I met a lot of friendly faces. The faculty were very supportive, which gave me confidence about my choice to study here.

We had orientation sessions that explained the academic structure, including the two class tests and one semester exam per course. While I was happy with the overall reception, I felt that some areas, like the curriculum, needed to be updated to reflect current industry demands better. The atmosphere was lively, and I could see myself enjoying my time here.
