How is KNIT Sultanpur? Is it worth joining compared to top private UPTU colleges?

It's funny to see these comparisons, and I get why people are confused about this. Private colleges are really good at advertising this time of year, and some students from these colleges often talk up how amazing their school is. If by "top" private colleges you mean places like JSS or KIET, then those are usually the ones people are talking about. These schools are in better locations than Sultanpur, but is that the only thing you should think about? You should decide for yourself.

I've heard some folks say that AKTU government colleges have terrible placements because they're in out-of-the-way locations, which keeps companies from visiting. That's just not true. The overall placement situation at AKTU isn’t great, but government colleges still generally offer better placement quality and quantity compared to private ones. They don't advertise their placements much, and fewer students are eager to join companies like TCS or Infosys that offer starting salaries around 3.5 lpa.

JSS is still well-regarded among private colleges in AKTU. If you think government colleges under AKTU aren't worth it, then JSS is probably your best bet.

KNIT Sultanpur, along with colleges like BIET Jhansi, MMMEC Gorakhpur (now MMMUT), and IET Lucknow, used to have decent placement opportunities about ten years ago. By decent, I don't mean extremely high salaries or top-tier product companies. However, as I’ve mentioned before, the UPTU system has been declining over the last decade in terms of placements, faculty quality, infrastructure, and academics. Nowadays, whether you choose KNIT, BIET, IET, or any private engineering college under UPTU, they’re pretty much on the same level. State government colleges might save you some money on fees, but that’s about it.

Also, just to clarify, the idea of ‘top private UPTU colleges’ doesn’t really exist. The terms ‘top college’ and ‘UPTU’ don’t go hand in hand. Picking a college in UPTU often feels like choosing the best from what's not great.

If you decide to study CSE, IT, or ECE at KNIT Sultanpur, you’ll likely end up with mass recruiters by the final year. For core branches, on-campus core company placements are rare, and many students head to Delhi or Lucknow to prepare for exams like GATE, IES, or for PSU jobs. So, joining KNIT Sultanpur might not significantly boost your career profile at this point.

My experience at KNIT Sultanpur for the Mechanical Engineering course has been a mixed bag. While the curriculum is relevant and covers essential topics, it's primarily theory-based and lacks practical exposure. The faculty here is well-qualified, and while the curriculum covers essential topics, it could benefit from more practical applications. The placement scenario, however, isn't the best, as most opportunities are skewed towards IT and CSE students.

The average package for Electrical Engineering is around 4-6 LPA, and many students prepare for GATE instead of relying solely on campus placements. If you're focused on securing a job in core sectors, you might need to put in extra effort. Overall, it has its pros and cons, but it can be a good foundation if you are willing to work hard.

KNIT Sultanpur is a solid choice, nestled right by the Gomti River. The campus life and quality of education are comparable to what you would find at an NIT. If you look at the number of students who land jobs in PSUs, like NTPC Ltd, you'll notice over 200 top and middle-level executives hail from this college. It might surprise you when you see how it stacks up against other NITs.
