IIT Dhanbad is technically IIT (ISM) — Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad. it was upgraded to IIT status.

mess food at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad:

  • multiple hostels have their own messes. food quality varies by hostel
  • general student feedback: the food is basic north Indian/Bihari-style. dal, sabzi, roti, rice. nothing fancy but filling
  • non-vegetarian options available on certain days
  • quality is considered average among IITs — not as good as the older IITs but acceptable
  • mess charges around Rs.2,500-3,500/month depending on hostel

dhanbad itself is an industrial mining city — not a foodie paradise. but the campus has canteens and some outside food joints nearby. students generally manage fine. if you're from South India the dal-roti base might feel monotonous initially but you adjust.
