Why are IIM Ranchi and Raipur underrated compared to IIM Udaipur even after better placement records?
I think the single most important reason why IIM Raipur and Ranchi are considered below IIM Udaipur is the lack of proper marketing. IIM Udaipur has managed to make its mark through enough marketing and promoting research culture. The IIMRs is also flawed in the sense that they are located in extremely poor economic states. This flaw overshadows all their features and the fact that they have better placement scenarios than IIM Udaipur.
Every IIM has set a certain goal and is gradually climbing the ladder to reach its level of excellence. The same is the case with IIMRs. In just a few years these two will be among the best IIMs in India.
Is the NIRF ranking completely reliable? How is IIT Bhubaneswar better than IIT Gandhinagar?
Yes, the NIRF ranking is reliable as it considers testing colleges on five important parameters. These include Inclusivity, Teaching, Outreach, Research and Professional Practice, Learning and Resources. The colleges are ranked based on their performance in terms of these parameters. NIRF has given 18th rank to IIT Gandhinagar in the overall category.

Is IIM Udaipur that far ahead of other IIMs if we consider the global rankings?
Every ranking is done on the basis of different parameters. So we cannot define the worth of a college just by looking at one or two rankings. IIM Udaipur has been featured in both the QS and FT MiM rankings which included only the top A B and C IIMs. The QS ranking focuses on the research culture mostly in which IIM Udaipur excels at. Its excellent research contributions has brought it in the league of the top 3 IIMs. But the FT rankings do not have only research as their parameter. So we can say that IIM Udaipur indeed is worthy of its position and rankings among the top IIMs.
I converted both IIM Ranchi and IIM Udaipur. What are some honest opinions because both have almost comparable rankings and placement reports?
The decision of choosing a college should be taken at an individual level. You can seek advice from others but not ask them to decide for you. Try to analyze what exactly you want from your MBA program. What is it you are seeking and how to achieve it? Once you are sure about that, college does not matter much.
Honesty both the IIMs you mentioned give an edge to each other. Still if I would have to choose one, I would go for IIM Udaipur because of its recent success stories. IIM Udaipur has seen a rise in international rankings like QS and FT. Earlier these rankings included only the top IIMs A, B and C. IIM Udaipur has proven its worth by appearing on such international rankings. It is also the youngest B-school in the “world” to be featured in the FT MiM Rankings.
IIM Udaipur is heaven for a research enthusiast. Its premium research culture is the reason for its recent rise in rankings. As far as placement is concerned, both the colleges have similar statistics. The table below has drawn a comparison between the two.
