Which IIT is the best among the new IITs?

DS
Divya Saraf Posted On : June 16th, 2023
Lives in Hyderabad

My favorite IIT among the new IITs is IIT Hyderabad considering its exponential growth in the past few years.

  • The highly reputed ranking body, NIRF has ranked IIT Hyderabad in the 9th position right after the 7 old IITs and NIT Trichy. This in itself proves IIT Hyderabad's superiority to the new IITs.
  • As per the QS World Rankings, it secured a rank in the range of 581-590 being the only new IIT to make it to the top 1000 in the world. It seems to have better rankings than IIT BHU, one of the oldest IITs. This is a testament to its fast-paced growth.
  • It receives the highest international offers among the new IITs and even some old IITs.
  • IIT Hyderabad has strong ties with foreign universities in Japan, the USA, and Canada. This expands the educational prospects of IIT Hyderabad students.
  • Being new, it offers bachelor programs in modern branches such as Artificial Intelligence, Maths and Computing, and Engineering Sciences. These branches are more in demand now than core branches.
  • It enjoys locational advantages from the main city like advanced technological developments, start-up opportunities, the best faculty, and a decent college life.
  • Another unique aspect of IIT Hyderabad is its fractal system wherein students are continuously evaluated through quizzes, and low-credit courses rather than final semesters.
  • IIT Hyderabad's infrastructure is modern with the best campus and hostel facilities. Being new, it has modern labs and classrooms with recent technology equipment enhancing the overall academic experience and opportunities.
  • IIT Hyderabad cutoff is almost similar to other old IITs provings its demand to other new IITs.

IIT Hyderabad may not be able to surpass the old IITs anytime soon considering their high prestige and brand value but will surely lead the race with new IITs.

What are the worst things about bit mesra?

AB
Arun Biswas Posted On : August 9th, 2023
Studied at Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra

Every coin has two sides and likewise, every institute has its strengths and weaknesses. BIT Mesra has a number of flaws pertaining to its education and culture. I have listed a few

  • One of the biggest cons of this institute is that students aren’t encouraged or inclined towards research and innovations at all. All they care about is getting a decent GOA and eventually a job.
  • The faculty is least interested in conducting quality research and discovery. They just conduct monotonous classes for the sake of it just to earn money.
  • The institute has excellent infrastructure but its utility is poor. There are supercomputers and computational tools, however, they aren’t used to the fullest to bring big achievements.
  • Even in this age and era, students are judged on the basis of personal relationships, attendance count; and GPA.
  • The focus on securing a high GPA has definitely affected the quality of education and resulted in a rat race for placements.

I really hope the institute makes amendments and brings about a massive research culture soon!

What was your routine in IIT Bombay?

AW
Amogh Wagh Posted On : March 16th, 2023
B.Tech in Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IITB)

Firstly, it's important to recognize that everyone follows a different routine. If you are starting a new journey at IITB, your routine may differ from others.

On a general working day, you may have labs/lectures in the morning and classes in the afternoon. Most days, there may be labs, so it's important to wake up early to have breakfast and rush for the labs which may start at 9:30 am. Labs may last until 12:30 pm, after which you can return to the mess for lunch and prepare for classes from 2–5 pm.

After 5 pm, it's a good idea to take a break and relax with friends for snacks and unwind for an hour. It's important to revise what was taught in the class for at most an hour. You can also attend orientations of various clubs in IIT or participate in cultural activities that interest you.

Dinner time can be spent in the mess with friends, having dinner and spending time. After dinner, you can engage in fun activities in your wing with friends or get some rest.

However, in the 2nd semester, you may have to focus more on developing programming skills like python and VHDL, and cut out some of the timepass activities. It's essential to update your routine day by day based on what you learn and what aspects you need to focus on.

Remember, IIT is an opportunity to learn various things, so don't let go of these precious four years of your life. It's important to keep that in mind and make the most of your time there.

Is there a possibility to not receive a call from IIM A/B/C, even after scoring 100 percentile in CAT??

MK
Mohommad Kashif Posted On : November 24th, 2022
IIM Calcutta Class of 2015

Yes, there is a chance that you may not receive a call from IIM even after scoring 100 percentile in CAT. However, this happens only for IIM Bangalore.

You will receive a call from IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Calcutta because they choose the top 50 percentilers. But IIM Bangalore has an unknown logarithm for the admission process. I think it focuses too much on academics.
