How did Kritika Jain from IIT Bhubaneshwar managed to clear both IIM Ahmedabad and UPSC simultaneously(in her first attempt) considering both have completely different syllabus?

NJ
Neeraj Jain Posted On : March 19th, 2021
MBA FMS Delhi, 2020

Although the two entrance exams CAT and UPSC have an entirely different syllabus. Most of you do not accept that CAT is a test that just checks your aptitude. It has been noticed that many of the candidates with apparently good English and Maths scored more than 99.9 percentile without putting in a lot of effort into their preparation.

Following were the reasons that helped Kritika Jain to crack both CAT as well as UPSC in her first attempt were:

  • She mainly focused on UPSC during her preparation phase.
  • Since she had put all of her time and energy into UPSC, she was able to clear it by her dedicated hard work.
  • Clearing CAT requires aptitude which Kritika was good at. Hence, her talent helped her clear CAT without any extra hard work.
  • IIM Ahmedabad interview merely requires a decent hold on your subjects, general knowledge that you get from UPSC itself, communication skills, and obviously, confidence.
  • Kritika prepared for the UPSC interview so she didn't have to prepare separately for IIM A, thus making it much easier for her to clear IIM Ahmedabad.

You should try to understand that I’m not preaching here that it is ideal to sail two different boats when it comes to acting in such exams, but it is also not recommended to give up before trying only because of the fear of failure.

Moreover, the first attempt of the candidate has its own advantages, such as positivity and being full of energy. If you have a fixed goal with a strong focus, you can even crack UPSC in your first attempt. Hence, giving up your fear will definitely push you to give your best in any exam.

Arihant publishes a book that contains the previous years’ questions of MU OET.  Along with the previous year's questions, there are also some sample papers. You can follow this book for your preparation. It is quite helpful and offers insights into the examination pattern.

As MU OET is an online examination, the university doesn’t usually provide the question papers.

Is it worth doing an M.Tech from DTU?

TS
Tanya Sharma Posted On : July 5th, 2023
Studied at Delhi Technological university

Whether or not you should consider doing an M.Tech from DTU depends on several factors. These factors are-

  • Brand Name- If you wish for the tag of a prestigious institution to be attached to your degree, DTU is the right choice for you. My sister had done her B.Tech from a college that is not well known, so she decided to go for her M.Tech from DTU to get the DTU tag.
  • Placements- DTU has a good placement record. This is especially true for the CS and IT branches.
  • Poor Research Environment- If you wish to go for research, DTU will disappoint you. The faculty will only be there to ‘support’, you will be on your own. The research facilities are also not up to the mark. The seniors are helpful. Overall, the environment is not very nourishing for research endeavors.

Even the teaching is not up to the mark.

  • Other options- An M.Tech degree from DTU is equivalent to an M.Tech degree from a good NIT. If Delhi is the place for you, you should choose DTU or the nearest good NIT.
  • Preparation-  If you wish to go for teaching as a profession, you will get ample time to prepare for your NET/JRF during your M.Tech from DTU.

Even if you wish to go for government jobs after your M.Tech, you will get ample time for your preparation.

For hostel facilities, food, location, library, and study environment, DTU is a good university.

You must consider all these factors before choosing or not choosing DTU for your M.Tech. Overall, DTU is a prestigious and well-known university.

What is the real average domestic package of FMS Delhi?

AA
Ayush Agarwal Posted On : December 28th, 2022
MBA from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (Graduated 2020)

I will recommend you stop focusing on the average packages of any Institute be it FMS, IITs, or IIMs. This is because average packages are quite misleading. Two main reasons are

  • It includes the average of all the students placed or eligible to be placed and not all of the students. Students who fail to graduate on time are not included in the calculation as they are not eligible for placement. So if you include all the students (placed + non-placed due to whatever reasons), the average will be much lower.
  • Very high packages of only a few students increase the average. For instance, out of 3 students, one gets a package of INR 30 LPA whereas the other two get a package of only INR 3 LPA, so the average would total to 12 LPA. This average looks decent although the majority of students got extremely low packages.

Because of these reasons, I deem the average packages to be very misleading and should not be considered to determine the worth of a college.

Delhi University Vs Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University. Which one is better? Also comparing the standards of the crowd in these Universities.

It’s normal for you to get confused between DU and IPU. Both are well-reputed universities with high cutoffs. Choosing one of them can be made easy if you go through these differences:

  1. Colleges: DU colleges are famous for their high cutoffs. If you have scored 97 and above you will surely get admission to an A-grade college. But anything below 97 (even a 95) will send you to a B-grade college. So it’s better to study in an A-grade college at IPU than in a B-grade college of DU.

  2. Admission criteria: At DU, admissions are based on board exams, whereas at IPU you will have to give a CET (Common Entrance Test).

  3. Internships: All the universities recommend internships but IPU has made it compulsory. These internships not only build your CV but might also give you full-time jobs.

  4. Freelancing: At IPU most students prefer freelancing or part-time jobs to support their profession. The classes end early around 1 pm. Whereas in DU the timings of the classes vary a lot due to which you cannot spare time for freelancing much.

  5. Fees: Pursuing a professional course at IPU will cost you more than that at DU. This is because of its excellent infrastructure and facilities.

  6. Specialisation: DU is well known for its theoretical subjects like English, History, and Geography. Whereas IPU specializes in vocational courses like B. Tech, Journalism and Mass Communication, BBA, BCA, and MBA.

These points stand to prove that IPU is a better option if you are pursuing a professional course.

Is Amrita University good for a B.Tech? I got 2800 in the entrance exam. Is going to VIT or Amrita better?

PC
Parambrata Chatterjee Posted On : October 23rd, 2023
studies at Amrita University

Amrita and VIT are very different from each other.

Amrita University has a controlled environment, high focus on academics, and good placements. For a bright career, Amrita is a great place. But its campus life is very dull. One has to find a source of entertainment and growth on our own.

VIT offers a vibrant and lively campus. But one has to mostly rely on self study.

Both the colleges are good for a B.Tech. Make a choice based on your own caliber and priorities.

How is Gautam Buddha University Noida in terms of faculty, placements, hostel, students, etc.?

RG
Rishi Goel Posted On : December 23rd, 2021
BTech+MTech Computer Science, Gautam Buddha University (2022)

Gautam Buddha University, Noida is a State Government University with a huge campus in Greater Noida.

Faculty:

  • Faculties were from renowned institutes like JNU, NITs and even some held degrees from abroad.
  • If there is a lack of faculties, a guest lecturer is arranged for the students.

Hostel:

  • Students were allotted single rooms with washrooms on sharing basis wing wise.
  • The hostels have Gym, Table Tennis, carrom, etc.
  • There is availability of daily newspapers and magazines.
  • There is a sports complex with state of the art facilities.
  • The Hostels have been provided with LAN cables to have internet connectivity.

Placements:

  • The placements were not good, but gradually it has improved.
  • Now popular companies like TCS and IBM conduct mass recruitment, which ends up offering to almost all the students.

Overall the college is really good and appreciated  by the students. The infrastructure is gorgeous, much better than some of the IITs and NITs. Lately it has been deteriorating with time due to the lack of maintenance, care, supervision and funds. A lot of the college students are into student politics which sometimes affect their academic performance.
