Cybersecurity is a great discipline for a PG degree in Computer Science. It has huge scope in research and jobs in the industry.
However, Karunya University is deemed to be a university with minority status. It ranks lower than IITs, NITs, IIITs, Central Universities, State Universities, and reputed Govt. University colleges like UVCE Bangalore, CEG Chennai, etc. However, their MTech program has tie-ups with foreign universities.
But don’t expect much from the University. I am saying this because my brother is an alumnus of the university.
The education quality of the University is poor. Only a few of the faculty members are academically qualified but, they are incapable of teaching. They lack the ability to provide real-time explanations for any problem. However, IAESTE is a way through which you can get exposure in your field of study. In fact, it is the only way through which you will get exposure in your field of study.
To conclude, Karunya University is definitely not the first choice for an M.Tech in Cybersecurity but it is not a bad choice either.
My brother goes to NIT Calicut so I can give you some insight into their M.Tech VLSI and EDT course. Here are the glimpses of the placement record for the year 2020.
| Parameters | MTech Microelectronics and VLSI Design | MTech Electronics Design Technology |
| Highest CTC offered | INR 21.5 LPA | INR 21.5 LPA |
| Average CTC offered | INR 16.4 LPA | INR 16.7 LPA |
| Lowest CTC offered | INR 6.8 LPA | INR 9 LPA |
The average CTC offered to both of these programs is almost similar. Also, the course has a good ROI. M.Tech Microelectronics and VLSI Design is in great demand and it is turning out to be one of the best courses at NIT Calicut.
I was in the same position as you last year. I too had the same options for my Bachelor and I chose IIT Roorkee due to the following reasons:-
M.Tech in PES University is considered among the best due to its great placement opportunities, mesmerizing infrastructure, knowledgable faculty with a diverse crowd.
Placement:
If you are good at technical and have skills, then you can get a core job.
Faculty:
At present, there are three faculties with the Ph.D.degree and one faculty submitted his thesis for the Ph.D.degree, these teachers are specialized in various fields of Automobile engineering.
About the Department:
Teachers emphasize on providing quality education, rigorous teaching-learning, hands-on expertise. Industrial training is supported by big companies like Mico-Bosch, Bangalore, KSRTC Regional Workshop, Bangalore, and Eicher Tractor Training Center, Chennai, etc.
One of my friends from school is a student of Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University For Women (IGDTUW). Based on what I heard from her, I can give you some idea about the institute. It is a college that is gaining a very good reputation rapidly. It is growing consistently and is almost on equal footing with institutes like the IITs, DTU, NSIT, etc.
The CSE and IT programs of the university promise placements which are lucrative. The university is on the same level as far as academics are concerned. Of course, you will be the one who will shape your future.
The university tries its best to provide exposure to the students.
It all actually depends on your interest. As both of these options are completely different and two different areas of interest. You must choose what you find interesting. There would not be any conflict between these two institutes over the placement stats as both of them will give good placements to their students. Here are the recent placement highlights of the institutes.
| Parameters | NITIE | IISc |
| Average CTC | 20 LPA | 10 LPA |
| Highest CTC | 43 LPA | 40 LPA |
| Major recruiters | ETLI, EY, IDFC First | HP, Dell, Intel |
If you are interested in tough work that is more challenging or research and development-oriented, you should choose IISc. As in the world of Nanoscience, IISc is the country’s most renowned institution. And if you are more inclined towards managerial work, then it would be better to go to NITIE.
If the IIT tag is not considered, NIT Trichy’s Structural Engineering M.Tech course is better than IIT Bhubaneswar. But the hallmark of IIT does offer certain advantages.
NIT Trichy was established in 1964 while IIT Bhubaneswar was established in 2008. So, it is the older institution with a strong alumni base. NIRF in 2019 ranked NIT Trichy 10 in India while IIT Bhubaneswar was ranked at 17.
NIT Trichy has a very good placement record over the years and it is pretty good for structural engineering specialization. Almost 80% of the M. Tech students are employed in reputed companies every year with an average salary package of 5 lakh per annum. Some of the companies in which the students get placed are L&T Construction, L&T Hydrocarbon, TCE, L&W Construction, Atkins, Dow Chemicals, Technip, etc.
Compared to NIT Trichy, IIT Bhubhaneshwar does not have an impressive M. Tech placement record. The institute has witnessed around 68% of placement. But in the year 2018, there was an increase in the number of jobs offered from core industries. The average salary package was 11.15 package per annum. Top MNC recruiters were Goldman Sachs, Renault, Nissan, Samsung, Oracle, Infosys, Adobe, etc. The public sector undertakings in India such as ISRO, IOCL, HPCL, NCCBM also participated in placement.
The total fee structure of IIT Bhubaneswar for the M.Tech Structural Engineering program is Rs. 2.31 Lakhs/ Year. While the fee structure in NIT Trichy is only Rs. 96,625/ Year. NIT Trichy has highly qualified and experienced faculty. Most of them hold Ph. D and some of them have completed PostDoc. The institute makes use of the e-learning platform to teach the students. IIT Bhubaneswar is also rich with experienced faculties.
M.Tech in metallurgical and materials technology at the Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar will introduce you with immense exposure opportunities, good Infrastructure, and well-qualified faculties. However, when it comes to placements for M.Tech students particularly in metallurgical and materials technology, the placements are not satisfactory enough when compared to other IITs. The average placement percentage is around 60% - 65%. Also, you’ll find that the salary packages offered to the students are not as per expectations. The Median salary offered to metallurgical and materials technology M.tech students at IIT Bhubaneswar are around 6 lakhs. Furthermore, if we look at the past placement records, there has been no improvement in the placement package offered to students for this program over the years. Not many companies recruit students from the metallurgical and materials technology field. Few companies visiting the campus are TATA Consulting Engineering Ltd., Hero Motocorp Ltd., Cognizant Technology Solutions, Goldman Sachs, Amazon, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., and Infosys Ltd. You’ll be able to back up an average placement in these companies if you are good in your studies, but still, you cannot have very high expectations as there is no 100% placement, and students even struggle to get jobs involving core work related to their field.
One of my close friends studied M.Tech in IILM, Greater Noida, and here's what she has to share about the institute -
For more details and a clear picture, check the official website and contact the admission office.
NIT Goa has a good teaching faculty for the VLSI stream. The faculty has done their PhDs from IITs and the campus also has very well-equipped labs so it provides a great learning experience.
Here is a brief overview of the NIT Goa.
| Category | NIT Goa |
| Companies Visited | Infosys, ZS Associates, Infotech, etc. |
| Highest Package | 15.9 lakhs |
| Average CTC | 7 lakhs |
Talking about the placements and internships part, Intel, NXP semiconductors offered a lot of internships in the past and there are still chances of these companies visiting again in the future. If you wish to get admitted for MTech in an NIT, it would be a better option if you opt for older and NITs first. If not, NIT Goa is also a good option.
