I got NIT Surathkal ECE and IIIT Bangalore CSE. I am joining IIIT Bangalore CSE, is it a good decision?
This is a very subjective question. However, as a student of ECE at NIT Surathkal, I am writing down a few points in defense of my degree-
- First of all, NIT Surathkal offers a much more complete and diversified engineering education. This is because you will get to interact with the students of various disciplines from around the institution. This will offer a good exposure in contrast to the IIITs which are entirely focused on CSE and ECE branches.
- ECE is the branch of the future. CSE is turning more and more into a commodity. This is due to the dilution of its educational standards, and the increasing volume of students in this branch.
- As an ECE student, you can always learn programming (it is in fact a part of the curriculum in a limited manner). However, it is much more difficult to learn the concepts of ECE as a CSE student.
- As an ECE student you can be placed in a software company, but as a CSE student you can’t work in the E&C field.
- Both the colleges are good, but NITK holds more prestige because it is much older. Its campus is very impressive as well.
But even IIIT Bangalore CSE is a great option. Once you’ve made a decision, stop seeking others’ opinions. Instead, work on your skill enhancement. Considering the sheer lack of core jobs in the electronics sector in India and the huge placement opportunities in the IT sector, your choice is good from a placement point of view.
With a GRE score of 306, can I get admission to the University of California at Santa Barbara for an MS in CS?

How are the hostel rooms at IIT Bombay?
IIT Bombay has 3 kinds of hostel facilities for undergrads

- Fresher year hostel - Hostel 15-16: In the rooms of these hostels, the kitchens are too small and you just have your own bare space. Some rooms have an additional free space in your room while others have more than enough space for you and your roommate.
- Senior Hostel (for the rest male undergraduates): The rooms are a bit better than Fresher hostels with an additional store room. However, this store room is very small in most cases. There is an additional space apart from your own room and your roommates.
- Senior Hostel (for the rest female undergrads): Girls' hostel rooms have the maximum space and the best facilities.
At the end of the day, the size of your hostel room hardly matters in your college life. You get habitual after a few months and it becomes the smallest issue.
Which college is better: IIT or BITS Pilani ?
Old IITs like Delhi, Mumbai, Kharagpur, Madras, and Kanpur rank higher than BITS Pilani. If you are getting admission to any of these IITs, go for it.
IITs like Dhanbad, BHU, Guwahati, Roorkee, and BITS Pilani belong in the same category. So, go where you are getting your preferred branch.
BITS is much better than the new IITs like Jammu, Mandi, Patna, Jodhpur, Goa, Pallakad, and Indore.
BITS offers an excellent campus experience which helps in overall personality development. As a student of the institute, you will have the freedom to study and explore any interest you have.

Additionally, the overall Registration Fees and Examination fees for every semester is INR 1000. The registration fees for the 1st semester will be collected at the time of counseling and for the rest of the semesters, the registration fees will be collected at the beginning of each semester. Examination Fees will be collected during the Form Fill up for the Semester Examination.

In my opinion, Chandigarh University is superior to other universities for the following reasons:

Can I get IIM with 99.9 percentile?
Yes, you are likely to receive a call from most IIMs with a percentile as high as 99.9. In fact, scoring 99 percentile in CAT is the only way you can guarantee admission to a certain extent into an IIM.
