What is your review of BITS Pilani WILP?Does it consider to get lecturer job?

SD
Shruti Dasgupta Posted On : June 26th, 2023
Student at Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani

BITS WILP is a two-year postgraduate level course, in which 15 specializations are offered by the university. It is a degree course that is completed mainly on weekends to enable students and professionals to gain a full-time degree course while continuing their professional pursuits.

Pros

  • You get associated with the BITS tag
  • You can do your PG alongside working
  • The course is rather easy and with the right dedication you can complete it in 2 yrs.
  • The syllabus is the same for both on and off-campus students

Cons

  • You won’t be able to sit for PG campus recruitment
  • Not many companies consider this degree valuable and thus makes it is difficult to land a job.
  • The admission criteria are rather flexible thus the peer pool is not very filtered.
  • Most of the subjects are from bachelors and lack relevance and rigor
  • There is no visible difference in the knowledge base of the students.
  • The classes are not conducted by the original BITS faculty.

In all, I think the cons overshadow the pros and don’t deem this course a very wise decision.

Is an MBA from IGNOU a valued one or not?

PA
Pooja Agrawal Posted On : October 13th, 2022
MBA from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)

Even an IIM degree may be worthless if you do not learn anything while pursuing it.

Because you have not specified the nature of your use for an MBA degree, it is assumed that you are a working professional interested in gaining theoretical knowledge of management through an MBA from IGNOU.

When we compare IGNOU to other distance learning universities such as SMU and Symbiosis, we can see that IGNOU stands out due to the well-structured course material and the importance of assignments. The faculty who are mentoring SOMS IGNOU (School of Management Studies) is top-tier professors from IIMs and IIFT, as well as senior government officials.

However, expecting an MBA to be equivalent to a regular MBA degree to get a job is unrealistic. Most MBA programs in India are extremely rigorous and intensive. This is because a future manager is expected to perform under pressure, and a management student is subjected to that pressure from day one of his MBA program. As a result of regular case study discussions and extensive knowledge sharing in peer groups, a regular MBA is considered to be far more valuable than a distance MBA. However, a regular MBA requires a significant time and financial investment.

So, if you are already in a well-established job and want to advance to a management position or simply learn more about the theoretical aspects of management, an MBA from IGNOU will undoubtedly help you serve the purpose with minimal investment of both time and money.

How good is IIFT (Indian Institute of Foreign Trade) as compared to IIMs, XLRI, and FMS, in regards to faculty, placements, location, students, alumni, etc.?

DS
Dhruv Shetty Posted On : May 9th, 2026

IIFT's positioning vs IIMs, XLRI, and FMS is a genuinely interesting comparison because IIFT has a very specific niche that makes direct comparison tricky.

IIFT's unique positioning:

  • Affiliated with Ministry of Commerce — the ONLY business school in India directly focused on International Business and Trade.
  • Program: MBA-IB (International Business) — 2.5 years (3-year option with one semester abroad at partner schools in Europe/US).
  • Placements 2024: Average CTC ~26-28 LPA, Top: ~65 LPA. Strong in trading companies, consulting, FMCG, export-import firms.

Comparison:

  • vs IIM A/B/C: IIMs rank above IIFT overall for general management, investment banking, and consulting. But for international trade and export-focused careers, IIFT grads have a niche advantage.
  • vs FMS Delhi: FMS has lower fees (Central University, ~?20K/year), comparable placement quality for generalist roles, but less specialized. FMS is harder to get into (PGDM via CAT). IIFT has its own entrance exam.
  • vs XLRI: XLRI's HR program is #1 in India. XLRI BM (Business Management) is roughly comparable to IIFT in placement quality. Different culture: XLRI is industry-focused, IIFT is trade/commerce focused.

Who should pick IIFT: Students with genuine interest in global trade, import-export, global supply chain, or international consulting. The WTO/trade policy exposure and MoC connection is genuinely unique. For generalist corporate careers, IIM A/B/C/FMS offer stronger brand positioning.

What marks are required in the IISER aptitude test in order to get admission in any of the IISERs? Also, what rank in the JEE (Advanced) is good enough?

AG
Amol Gokhale Posted On : May 3rd, 2026

IISER admission options and requirements:

3 pathways to IISER admission:

1. KVPY (now discontinued — replaced by INSPIRE): KVPY SX/SA scholarship holders were directly eligible. KVPY has been replaced by INSPIRE scholarship for IISER 2023 onwards.

2. IIT JEE Advanced: top performers in JEE Advanced (within certain rank cutoffs) qualify for IISER. typically top 10,000-15,000 JEE Advanced ranks get IISER through IAT (IISER Aptitude Test) exemption or directly.

3. IAT (IISER Aptitude Test): IISER's own entrance exam held annually (April-May). 3-hour exam with 60 questions covering PCB + Math. you need 60% in Class 12 PCB to be eligible. For IAT specifically, a score of 120-140+/240 typically gets you decent IISER options; 160+ for top IISERs (Pune, Kolkata, Mohali).

check iiseradmissions.in for the current year's admission policy as it changes with KVPY discontinuation. IAT is now the primary route for most students without top JEE Advanced ranks.

My JEE main rank is 10000. Can I get computer science in NIT Trichy?

MA
Meenal Agarwal Posted On : April 29th, 2026

JEE Main rank 10000 for NIT Trichy CSE — this is a very asked question. let's be specific:

NIT Trichy CSE is one of the most competitive programs at any NIT. recent closing ranks (JoSAA counseling):

  • Home State Tamil Nadu (HS quota): CSE closes around rank 1,500-2,500. at rank 10,000 even HS quota won't get you CSE
  • Outside State (OS quota): CSE closes around rank 500-1,000. rank 10,000 is way beyond this

so ngl bro, rank 10,000 cannot get you CSE at NIT Trichy through JoSAA. it's one of the most competitive CSE programs in the NIT system.

what you CAN get at NIT Trichy with rank 10,000: Chemical Engineering, Production Engineering, Metallurgy, Civil (HS quota). Mech might be borderline.

better strategy: at rank 10,000 you should target CSE at NIT Warangal (HS quota Telangana only), or CSE/ECE at NIT Rourkela, MNIT Jaipur, MNNIT Allahabad, NIT Calicut (non-core branches). check josaa.admissions.nic.in for current year cutoffs.

Why does IIT Kanpur not allow laptops in first year?

SN
Saugata Nayak Posted On : April 17th, 2023
Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (2020)

IIT Kanpur has a strange policy of not allowing laptops in the first year. This might sound weird because all assignments and research work are done via laptops. But in reality, you will find enough computers in the labs for everyone.

The major purpose of this policy was to encourage students to socialize and spend less screen time. Developing relations is a crucial part of college life which many pay less importance to because of the increasing technology.

This strategy was adopted to prevent waste of time and utilize your time at IIT to the fullest. Many may find it absurd, but it’s very beneficial, especially for freshers who are prone to distractions.

Are NITs better than BITS?

BG
Bidita Ghose Posted On : June 27th, 2023
Lives in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India

Let’s compare the top NIT, NIT Trichy with BITS Pilani to determine if NITs are better than BITS or not.

  • Tag: The brand value of both BITS and NITs is almost similar though the courses offered are slightly different. BITS offers to BE, while NITs offer BTech like IITs.
  • Curriculum: BITS has a major-minor system making it possible to major in Mechanical and minor in Economics. Additionally, BITS offers dual degrees also. NIT Trichy on the other hand offers the Honors degree to those who show distinguished grades in 8 all sems and take 3 AP classes.
  • ROI: Considering the high BITS Pilani fees, the return on investment offered by NITs is way better than BITS unless money is your last concern.
  • Student pool: NITs have a reservation policy while BITS does not. This ensures better crowd quality at BITS and even better competition in comparison to NITs.
  • Extra-Curriculars: Students get enough time to focus on extracurricular activities at BITS because of the flexibility to choose electives and no attendance. It also encourages a startup culture among its students. NIT's rigidity of curriculum makes it difficult to spare time for extracurriculars.
  • Higher Education: NITs alumni have a history of pursuing higher education from top universities in the US and Europe. So it’s a winner in this aspect.
  • Placements: BITS Pilani CSE has excellent placement opportunities while for mechanical NIT Trichy is a better choice as it offers better placement in the core.

Ultimately, I would suggest you go for NIT if you want to pursue higher studies or core jobs while BITS Pilani is the best choice for CSE.
