I have got a seat at DTU. Should I go for it? What are the advantages and disadvantages??

C
CelestialLecture Posted On : March 31st, 2026

Pros:

  • There's plenty of free time at DTU, allowing you to pursue your passions or side hustles if you manage your time wisely.
  • The attendance policy is quite lenient, so you can attend classes based on your comfort level (though this can vary by professor).
  • Most professors are pretty chill. There's an unwritten rule that if a teacher doesn't show up within 20 minutes, the lecture is automatically considered ‘CANCELLED’.
  • If the semester is offline, you don’t have to stress too much about assignments and exams; it often turns into a last-minute scramble, and you can still get through with some smart studying. However, it's better to dedicate time to subjects that interest you.
  • The campus is lush, green, and expansive.
  • Located in the national capital, DTU offers many opportunities compared to other top NITs that are in more remote areas.
  • There are ample opportunities for extracurricular activities, with societies and clubs for nearly every interest.
  • You get to interact with and learn from some of the brightest minds in Delhi!

What is the average Package in DTU in BE/B.Tech??

W
WanderingLookout Posted On : March 31st, 2026

Placement at DTU for CSE students is comparable to the top IITs in India. Nearly all students from the CSE branch who registered for placements secured jobs in the 2018–19 session.

  • More than 350 companies visited DTU, with around 200 specifically for software profiles.
  • Approximately 50 companies offered more than 20 LPA CTC in India, although some figures can be exaggerated.

The median CTC is around 17–19 LPA, while the mean CTC is approximately 20 LPA.

How do I reach DTU?

A
ArcaneAroma Posted On : March 31st, 2026

Getting to DTU is pretty easy, especially if you're in Delhi. I usually take the metro to Vishwavidyalaya station and then hop on an auto. It’s a quick ride, and you’ll see a lot of students around, so it feels safe. I joined DTU for my BBA, and I love the atmosphere here, especially during the Engifest in February! It’s one of the biggest fests in Delhi, and reaching there is half the fun!

Is it worth doing a B.Tech Chemical Engineering from DTU or not? What are its placement records and whats your experience with this college so far?

V
VelvetLyric Posted On : March 30th, 2026

I have been researching the Indian engineering education system for the last 10 years, so I can provide an informed answer to this question.

NO. A Chemical Engineering student at DTU cannot sit for campus placements with product-based companies for tech positions. ONLY CSE students at any Indian engineering college are allowed to participate in campus placements when product-based IT companies come to recruit.

MOST engineering students at Tier-1 Indian engineering colleges can sit for campus placements for product-based companies, but this is typically for managerial positions.

The Indian engineering curriculum is outdated—about 40 years old—so there is little demand for engineering degree holders in the industry. This is why I take news of any Indian engineering graduate landing a 5+ LPA package with skepticism.

It usually takes an Indian youth around 7+ years of computer programming practice, along with 3+ years of English language communication practice, to become an internationally employable software engineering professional in the tech industry.

So, for B.Tech Industrial & Production Engineering at DTU, the total fees come to about ?9,79,100. I won't lie, it feels a bit high, especially since it's a government college. But honestly, the campus life, faculty, and placement opportunities make it a valuable investment for our future!

What is the placement rate at DTU? Do good companies hire from here??

S
SilentSprite Posted On : March 30th, 2026

I’m currently studying at DTU, and the placement scene is a mixed bag. About 20-25% of students get placed, and some well-known companies like Bajaj and Byjus visit for placements. The highest package I’ve heard of is 13 LPA, but the average is closer to 5 LPA. Most companies that come here are in the startup space, offering roles in marketing, finance, and data analysis. I’m in my final year, so I’m focusing on my MBA plans, but it’s good to know that there are companies willing to hire from DTU.

Is doing MBA Business Analytics from DTU any good?

S
ShadowyStamper Posted On : March 30th, 2026

My experience in the MBA Business Analytics program at DTU has been really rewarding! The faculty are supportive, and they genuinely care about our learning. The practical knowledge we gain through lab work is invaluable. Internships are a big part of the program, with opportunities to work for major companies, and the average placement package is between ?7 to ?9 lakhs, which is pretty impressive. The campus feels alive, with lots of clubs to join and events happening all the time. Definitely worth considering if you want to dive into the analytics field!

Should I go for B.Tech Automotive Engineering in DTU or BE Electronics & Telecom Engineering in Jadavpur University?

C
CelestialChemist Posted On : March 30th, 2026

I think if you're focused on placements and career outcomes, DTU for B.Tech in Automotive Engineering might have the edge over Jadavpur University for BE in Electronics & Telecom Engineering. DTU has strong ties with major tech companies like Microsoft and Google, offering impressive internships and an average stipend of around 25k, which is quite attractive. While Jadavpur is also respected, it seems to have less emphasis on core automotive placements compared to DTU's robust automotive sector connections. If you're leaning towards a career in the automotive field, DTU could set you up better, while Jadavpur might be great if you prefer electronics and telecom. Overall, pick DTU if you want better job prospects in automotive engineering.

How difficult is it to get into DTU?

D
DigitalOrder Posted On : March 30th, 2026

The difficulty of getting into DTU varies from person to person. There are actually two forms of reservation at DTU:

  • For SC, ST, OBC, etc. candidates.
  • Homestate reservation, where about 85% of the seats are reserved for Delhi candidates.

This makes it relatively easier for Delhi candidates to gain admission to DTU. However, if you are a general category candidate, you typically need a rank under 20k to secure a spot in a top branch like ECE or above. For other categories, the cutoff can be in the lakhs, making it easier for them to get in.

For outside Delhi general category candidates, a rank under 10k is usually required to get into a top branch at DTU. I've included the cutoffs below for a clearer picture.

When it comes to placements, DTU takes the lead. Not that Jadavpur University is lacking, but DTU consistently attracts top market leaders and boasts a strong alumni network. All the best!
