Which is better for an MBBS, AIIMS Patna, KGMC Lucknow or Grant Medical College, Mumbai?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : June 1st, 2023
lives in New Delhi

All three insulations, AIIMS Patna, KGMC Lucknow, and Grant Medical College, Mumbai, are well-respected in the field of medicine and have a strong reputation for providing quality education and training to students pursuing an MBBS degree.

AIIMS Patna is known for its top-notch infrastructure and other campus facilities and good academics. It’s the most preferable AIIMS after Delhi. KGMC Lucknow is also a decent college though I am not aware of its infrastructure. GGMC Mumbai on the other hand is the best option of the three. Here is why

  • Its prime location plays a big role in making it the better option of the 3 institutes. Mumbai is a much more preferred city than Lucknow or Patna.
  • The patient inflow is diverse and huge enabling you to witness a variety of cases both common and rare in your UG itself.
  • Academic-wise too, this institute gives an edge over other institutes. With a well-structured curriculum and highly qualified professors, you will get an amazing learning experience
  • Great emphasis is given to the attendance and practicals of every subject.
  • In addition to academics, this college is well known for its active extracurricular culture. It has its own Gymkhana at Marine drives in addition to various cultural, and sports events and quizzes.
  • The hostel facilities are also decent as per government standards.
  • There are around 3-4 canteens and food served here is at subsidized rates.

The above list is not exhaustive and there are many more points as to why GGMC is a better choice than AIIMS Patna and KGMC Lucknow. Ultimately, it’s your call to make. If you are after the AIIMS tag, go for AIIMS Patna but if you want to enjoy your life along with decent academics then JJ would be the best choice for you.

Which exam is tougher to crack: CLAT or AILET?

IG
Indrita Ghosh Posted On : January 14th, 2021
National Law University Delhi (Batch of 2022)

AILET is a tougher exam compared to CLAT. AILET is held by the National Law University of Delhi while the CLAT exam is for admission in NLUs, IP University, and many more.

Reasons:

  • The number of applicants for the AILET exam is more than for CLAT. Thus, the difficulty level and the competition increases.
  • Number of seats: 80 seats are offered in the AILET exam while in CLAT, there are around 2538 seats in which 724 seats are available in CLAT PG. The seats are divided according to the reservation policy of the NLUs.There is only one participating institute under AILET, that is, the National Law University, Delhi.

AILET is a cut-throat examination and chances to get a seat in NLU Delhi is minimal. Around 17000 candidates apply for the exam for only 80 seats thus, the difficulty level gets higher every year.

In CLAT, almost 18 students compete for a seat whereas, in AILET, there are around 203 students competing for a seat in NLU, Delhi. Although the same students who apply for AILET also apply for CLAT, the competition to get admission in NLU Delhi is tough, since it is one of the top 5 National Law Universities in India.

Can I get admission in BTech with 95/200 marks in Manipal University?

NS
Narayan Shyamal Posted On : June 29th, 2021
Studied at Manipal Institute Of Technology

Well, a precise answer cannot be possible, it totally depends on the cutoff and the branch. I have many friends who have successfully secured a seat at Manipal University. Check out the following insights on the cutoff and admissions.

  • Keep in mind that the entrance paper will be quite long and there’s no way to finish it on time. Keep around 1/2 hr in the middle so you can make guesses for the questions you don’t know, as there is no negative marking.
  • A few years back one of my friends got 157/200 in MUOET and was the first one to take up a Mechanical engineering seat in Manipal campus with a rank of 462. The cutoff ended at 6K odd rank.

Nonetheless, there is no fixed score to get you in, as it changes with every branch. With 95/200 marks it is recommended to try in Jaipur campus as it can be quite easier as compared to the main campus. Also, if you have no idea about which branch is best for you, then blindly go for CSE/IT because these branches have the maximum placement opportunities. In the end, you might get admission in some of the other subjects for even 11000 ranks but when it comes to placements, it might get troublesome.

What should I know before joining NIT Silchar?

SG
Sudipta Ghose Posted On : August 24th, 2023
B.Tech from National Institute of Technology Silchar (2020)

These are some things you should know before joining NIT Silchar-

  1. Your CGPA is what matters the most over here. Everything else is secondary.
  2. All your past achievements and ranks will be of no use over here. Everything will start from scratch at NIT Silchar.
  3. Irrespective of your branch, you will have to work really hard.
  4. You will have mid-sem within a month of joining and the 6 subjects will be winded up in six days.
  5. You might have been a topper at school, but you can end up becoming an average student at NITS.
  6. You can rediscover your lost interests and passions at NITS through extracurricular activities.
  7. Civil/ Electrical and other branch students pick up coding/developing and gain expertise in the domain for better career prospects. Sometimes a student from another branch is a better coder/ developer than someone from CSE.
  8. You can’t be overly involved in extracurricular activities unless you want an attendance backlog in some course.
  9. While at NITs hostel, you will develop the habit of sleeping very late at night.
  10. Most students at NIT Silchar, except those in CSE or ECE, don’t like their chosen branch.
  11.  Getting above 8 CGPA requires hard work and effort from your side.
  12. There are some unhealthy politics on the campus.

NIT Silchar is an underrated college. However, these points were meant to inform you of the good and bad of this institution.

Does an IIM tag from a newer IIM (say IIM Ranchi) help in a person's career?

AM
Aditya Mahatha Posted On : January 11th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Management Ranchi (Graduated 2019)

The question is too general. Yet I will share my own opinion.

Indeed, IIM Ranchi has the potential to help you clear the obstacles in your career and climb the success ladder. It’s the following aspects of IIM Ranchi that make it a good option to uplift your career

IIM Tag: In this era of tough competition, it’s the IIM tag that helps you avail the finest benefits after an MBA.

Growth: All the news IIMs focus on the general development of its students at large. Unlike older IIMs you can initiate committees and clubs that have never been established before. You can take the reins and enforce student culture at your college.

Long-term benefits: While joining a new institute one should definitely look at the bigger picture. After all, once even IIM Ahmedabad was a new IIM but today it has its own legacy. The same will happen with all the other new IIMs so you shouldn’t lose this opportunity just for short-term benefits.

Placements: We are quick to judge colleges based on its placement statistics. In reality, Management is a field in which lifetime value is considered not salary. Yet if you base your decision on placements this year's statistics are as follows

Particulars

Statistics

Number of Recruiters

250+

Number of Students

325

Highest Salary

INR 32.21 LPA

Average Salary

INR 16.17 LPA

Top Recruiters

Deloitte, Aditya Birla Group, Infosys, EY, IBM

Major Sectors

IT/ITES, Consulting, BFSI

These packages may seem lower than those offered at older IIMs but with excellent work, you can climb the ladder gradually.

Curriculum: The pedagogy is as good as any other top B School. You can gain a lot of knowledge just by attending the lectures conducted by the learned faculty alone.

Some points that might be important to consider against your decision to join IIM Ranchi are

  • The infrastructure is not at par with other IIMs
  • The distance between the campus and accommodation is very much.
  • You will be offered lower packages as compared to older IIMs

However, I don’t think these points can overshadow the plethora of opportunities IIM Ranchi offers.
