No other college or university can compete with the IIT tag, no matter how good they are.

But in this case, I can assure you that in terms of:

• Infrastructure
• College life
• Placement opportunities
• Freedom (to pursue your skills in terms of time)
• Fees
• Quality of teaching

There won’t be any significant difference across these parameters, except for that tag mentioned earlier. And remember, that tag doesn’t last more than 2–3 years after you complete your course.

If you're passionate about Civil Engineering and want a slightly lower financial burden, go for IIT Delhi; however, if you're leaning towards higher earning potential in Electrical Engineering, IIT Bombay is the smarter financial choice.

If you're passionate about mathematics and computing and aim for a high-tech career, IIT Delhi is the smarter financial choice. However, if you prefer a stable engineering discipline with a longer academic track, IIT Kharagpur could be a good fit.

There’s no denying that Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE) has more job opportunities than Material Science Engineering. However, IIT Delhi is far superior to NITK in every aspect. You've worked hard to get into IIT, so take this chance or you might regret it later.

Here are some points to consider:

• You can change your department after the first year if you attend classes and put in some effort.
• You might end up enjoying your chosen department.
• You'll have more opportunities at IITs.
• You can also pursue a minor degree in a branch that interests you.

Make the most of your IIT experience!

First, ask yourself if you genuinely have an interest in a specific field. Your decision shouldn't hinge on salary packages or closing ranks. Be honest with yourself! If you have a passion for a particular branch, choose it, regardless of which IIT you’re considering (excluding the newer ones, for which NITs might be a better option).

It’s likely that you don’t have a strong preference yet, given your limited knowledge of the branches. So, let’s compare them. Generally, Electrical and Mechanical are the more sought-after branches, being core fields, compared to the others mentioned. If that’s what you want, then the focus shifts to choosing between IIT BHU and IIT Gandhinagar. Between these two, IIT BHU is the better choice as it’s an older IIT, likely offering superior faculty and facilities compared to newer ones like IIT Gandhinagar. So, if you're considering only these two options, I would definitely recommend Mechanical at IIT BHU. With good performance, you might even have the chance to switch to Electrical at BHU later.

Now, looking at the bigger picture, I can confidently say that IIT Delhi and IIT Kharagpur are both excellent choices!
