What is better between an engineering degree from Mumbai University or from any autonomous institute like VJTI, KJ Somaiya or SPIT?

RR
Rupohi Roy Posted On : January 4th, 2021
B.Tech Mechanical Engineering, K. J. Somaiya College of Engineering (2019)

You may have confused SPIT (Sardar Patel Institute of Technology) with SPCE (Sardar Patel College of Engineering). SPIT is not an autonomous institute. The courses offered in SPIT are Computers, IT, Electronics, and Electronics and Telecom.

Deciding Factors:

If you are looking for any particular program, then you should narrow down your choice of college based on courses. If you are more college-driven then you should go through the following points to make the right decision.

  • First, you should ask yourself about what do you want out of your engineering degree, whether it is academics, extracurricular, or co-curricular.
  • Also, it depends on your future goals. Whether you want good placements, seek higher education, or go for start-ups.

VJTI:

Considering all the factors, VJTI is the best option.

  • It is an autonomous college with a strong foundation. It also has a broad alumni base.
  • All these factors result in better internship opportunities, better placing companies, and a better network in education.
  • For extracurriculars, most of the engineering colleges in Mumbai offer almost the same opportunities. However, Thandomal, DJSCOE, and RAIT offer mesmerizing events. However, since extracurricular is not the sole factor of consideration, VJTI will be sufficient.

The placement statistics of recent years at VJTI are as follows.

Average CTC

6.8 LPA

Highest CTC

27 LPA

Academics and co-curricular do not depend on the institute only. It is what you make of it. VJTI is the best choice as it provides a good network and exposure.

Preference Order:

The preference order of the institutes other than VJTI is as follows.

  • Placement- SPIT>DJSCOE>KJSCOE
  • Reputation- SPIT>KJSCOE>DJSCOE
  • Academics- SPIT>DJSCOE>KJSCOE
  • Alumni- DJSCOE>KJSCOE>SPIT
  • Extracurricular- DJSCOE>SPIT>KJSCOE

If you get admission to VJTI you should definitely opt for it. You should consider what course you are choosing and research about the facilities and placements. For example, CS at SPIT has better placement than ME at VJTI or any of the other colleges mentioned here.

Also, autonomous colleges have better administration in MU. They have a better examination schedule, quick result release and you will have higher chances of securing a good CGPA.

Did I make a mistake by choosing IIT Guwahati CSE over IIT Varanasi CSE?

AB
Aditi Banerjee Posted On : May 4th, 2023
Lives in Bangalore

It's difficult for me to say whether choosing IIT Guwahati CSE over IIT Varanasi CSE was a mistake without more information about your specific circumstances and goals. Both IIT Guwahati and IIT Varanasi are highly respected institutions, and both offer strong Computer Science programs that are rightly comparable in almost every aspect.

The placement scenario is similarly decent at both institutes with very little emphasis on research. The active Coding Club/ CSEA at IIT Guwahati gives it a slight edge over others. Both the institutes are excellent choices for whatever you want to do after graduation be it research, open source development, or a stable job.

The only distinguishing feature is the weather as IIT Guwahati has better weather conditions than IIT BHU. However, this flaw is compensated by better connectivity of Varanasi being on the mainland.

What happens if you fail in a subject in the final year of engineering at VTU?

SV
Sangeeta Vyas Posted On : April 29th, 2026

failing a subject in final year at VTU (Visvesvaraya Technological University):

under VTU's CBCS scheme:

  • if you fail a subject in the final year (7th or 8th semester), you get an 'F' grade in that subject
  • under CBCS, you are not detained — there is no year back. you can still be issued a provisional completion certificate after completing other semesters if only 7th/8th sem subjects remain
  • you must clear the backlog(s) by appearing in subsequent attempts at the supplementary exams VTU conducts
  • Degree not awarded until all required credits are cleared — you cannot convocate with pending backlogs
  • you can attempt backlogs as many times as needed within the maximum 8-year program duration

practical impact: if you fail 1-2 subjects in final year, you'll get your degree a semester or two later than your batchmates. for campus placements, you might be excluded from final placement drives if results are pending. address it quickly to minimize delay.

NIT Surathkal is better than Delhi engineering colleges like NSIT, DTU and IIIT Delhi because it offers a more diverse experience. Here are a few aspects to consider

  • Reputation : NIT Surathkal enjoys the status of being an Institute of National importance and is fully funded by the Central government whereas DTU, NSIT, and IIITD are state government universities
  • Research culture: NIT Surathkal has a rich research culture and facilities and is one of the institutes which is selected for funding from HEFA
  • Academics : NIT Surathkal is a clear winner as its academic environment and curriculum are way better than Delhi colleges. Every year many students win International awards.
  • Campus life: NIT Surathkal has a private beach with a lush green campus of 300 acres. Moreover, its crowd is much more diverse than Delhi colleges which have 85% quota for Delhites.
  • Location : Situated near the IT hub, Bangalore NIT Surathkal students are exposed to more opportunities and a better IT environment. Many Bangalore IT companies give preference to NITK Surathkal students.
  • Placements : NIT Surathkal achieves 100% placement and has a better variety of recruiters than Delhi colleges.
  • Coding Culture: NIT Surathkal has received good rankings in the ICPC Asia Contest and every year many students are selected for Google Summer of Code.
  • ROI : NIT Surathkal offers a better ROI because it charges lesser fees than NSIT, DTU, and IIIT Delhi.

So, it's safe to say NIT Surathkal is a much better option than Delhi colleges.

BTech from APJ Abdul Kalam University (Graduated 2017)

No, NPTEL courses are not compulsory for B.Tech. In AKTU. These courses simply aim at adding qualitative knowledge among the students. In addition, every NPTEL course grants you extra 3 credits. If you are lagging behind in B.Tech. courses then NPTEL courses will definitely help you compensate for the loss.

So it can be said that for. B.Tech. student NPTEL courses are highly recommended but not compulsory.

How is IEM Kolkata? Which is better, CS at IEM Kolkata or civil/IT at Jadavpur?

HR
Harsh Ragav Posted On : September 7th, 2022
B.E. in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, Jadavpur University

IEM Kolkata is a reputed technical college in the region. But given a choice, you should take Civil/IT at Jadavpur University. JU ranks among the top engineering colleges in the country. It is well ahead of IEM, in terms of placement and opportunities.

Many core companies visit JU to recruit Civil Engineering students. The IT placement is excellent. Companies such as Microsoft, Google, etc. take part in Jadavpur University placements. During the 2022 placement drive, Facebook offered the highest CTC of INR 1.8 Crore per annum. The second highest CTC was INR 1.4 CPA, by Google.

Is Aligarh Muslim University good enough for a B.Tech, compared to private universities like VIT, SRM, Manipal and Thapar?

RV
Rohan Verma Posted On : February 6th, 2024
Studied at AMU

AMU is better than VIT, SRM, Manipal and Thapar in many respects. AMU offers top notch facilities like these private colleges, but its fees are way less in comparison.

Here are the goods and bads of joining AMU-

  1. AMU has very good placements for CS, Electronics and Electrical branches.
  2. The cost of study and hostels is extremely pocket friendly.
  3. The campus is great and very safe for girls.
  4. The faculty and infrastructure are both top notch. The CS and Electronics teachers have worked in the past for MNCs like Cisco and Microsoft.
  5. The library and book banks allow easy access to books for those who suffer from financial difficulties.
  6. The core branches (civil, mechanical and chemical) do not get core placement offers on campus. But one who knows his/her subjects well and has a good CPI, can easily acquire a good core job off campus. Core branches usually receive software related jobs offers during campus placements.
  7. Some freshers might feel a cultural shock at AMU, but they’ll eventually adapt to their new environment.

Aligarh Muslim University is a more reputable brand in comparison to private colleges, and its education is much more affordable. You must work hard and get a good rank to get admission into AMU.

From where B.Tech is better? Thapar, Patiala or NIT Kurukshetra?

MA
Madhav Aneja Posted On : September 1st, 2023
Lived in Chandigarh, India

There are several factors that you need to consider while making a choice.

NIT Kurukshetra is definitely much more economical than Thapar. There was a time when Thapar was superior to NIT Kurukshetra. But with time, things have changed a lot for both the colleges.

At NIT Kurukshetra, the teaching quality varies with departments. Most professors are very learned and supportive. The professors of ECE department are quite learned. However, they are also very strict with their students. The placements are good at both. You can check the placement scenario at Thapar and NIT Kurukshetra

NIT Kurukshetra and Thapar are both good colleges and have their own strengths and weaknesses.

Which college is better for CS, MIT Pune or VIT Pune?

TG
Tamoghno Ghose Posted On : April 4th, 2022
lives in Pune, Maharashtra, India

Among these institutes, VIT Pune is better for CS. Academics, infrastructure, exposure, placements, internships, etc. are better at VIT.

Companies like Amazon, Cognizant, Infosys, TCS, Accenture, Nvidia, Tata Power, Atlas Copco, etc. are some of the major recruiters that frequently visit the campus placements. In the last semester, there is a compulsory 6-month internship module at VIT. This helps a lot with placements. According to trends of the last few years, VIT Pune CSE average package is INR 6.34 LPA. During 2021 placements, the highest CTC offered was INR 33.75 LPA.

Which UPTU college to choose for a B.Tech CS/IT course: NIET Greater Noida, GL BAJAJ Greater Noida or IMS Engineering College Ghaziabad?

PT
Pragya Tripathi Posted On : March 2nd, 2023
M.C.A from Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University (Graduated 2013)

The choice of UPTU college for a B.Tech CS/IT course depends entirely on your priorities and preferences. Consider factors such as your preferred location, cost of living, city culture, security, placement opportunities, and most importantly, the quality of education offered by the college.

While the quality of education may be a factor to consider, remember that ultimately, your success in college will depend on your own dedication and effort. The atmosphere and culture of a college can have an impact, but it is not the only determining factor in making a college the "best" choice for you.

Based on these considerations, we recommend that you consider IMS Engineering College as your first choice, followed by NIET, and lastly G.L Bajaj.
