How good is IIM Shillong's PGPEX programme and how good are its placements?

RS
Rishabh Singh Posted On : February 12th, 2024
Lives in banglore

My brother received an interview call from IIM Shillong for their PGPEX program. This was a few years back. He wanted to join the course because he felt it would be beneficial for his corporate career. The teaching model at IIM Shillong focuses on developing Asian economies like China.

The PGPEX is comparatively affordable at IIM Shillong, compared to other management schools. But the top management schools host international teachers as visiting faculty for their courses.

Now here is the catch. The placements of IIM Shillong are entirely student driven. My brother reached out to a faculty member who was clear that the college offers its students a platform, but it can’t guarantee placements. During placements your entire profile will get you an offer, not just your ‘IIM Shillong’ tag.

After careful consideration, my brother decided to not opt for PGPEX at IIM Shillong.

Which is better, Chandigarh University or Galgotias University?

RG
Rahul Gupta Posted On : November 10th, 2021
B.E Computer Science Engineering, Chandigarh University (2021)

Chandigarh University is any day better than Galgotias University. The faculties at CU are great. Although most faculties don’t have much experience, they are well qualified and cooperative.

The placement training regime at CU is great. Many reputed companies visit the campus for placements. Around 20-25, IT companies visit CU each year for recruiting students. Overall, in terms of placement and faculties, CU is better than Galgotias.

AB
Ahalya Bose Posted On : August 8th, 2023
Studied at Cochin University (2019)

The placement scenario at CUSAT is better for branches like CS, IT, and Ship Building but very bad for branches like Mechanical, Civil, and Electrical. The institute hasn’t been releasing the official figures for a long time now so the following data is derived from media reports.

As per the media sources, out of 43 BTech (Naval Architecture and Ship Building) students, 41 were placed during 2023 placements. The highest and average package of the same was recorded at INR 17.3 LPA and INR 8.3 LPA, respectively. A total of 150 companies visited for BTech placements and selected 505 students. The highest package and average package for BTech stood at INR 25 LPA and INR 5.88 LPA, respectively.

The key highlights of CUSAT placements 2023 have been tabulated below

Particulars

Statistics (2023)

Highest package

INR 25 LPA

Average package

INR 4.9 LPA

Students placed

640

9 students offered pay package

INR 25 LPA

Popular recruiters

TCS, Infosys, Wipro

Overall, the CUSAT placement scenario isn’t very satisfying so you should reconsider your decision once.

Is the RGUHS correction of the 2nd year MBBS strict or liberal?

Shwetha S Posted On : March 30th, 2024

The results for 2nd year MBBS are fair and correction at RGUHS isn’t too strict. It must be easy to score marks if you are well prepared. RGUHS Results are based on criteria as follows:

Particulars

Details

Internal Assessment

35%

Theory + Oral

50%

Practicals/Clinicals (only Externals)

50%

Following the above pattern, students must be able to score well in the RGUHS Examination. Here are some more tips that might help you score well in your exams:

  • Focus on Preparation: Practice makes preparation better. Start preparing for the examination beforehand and make sure you are well-versed in the topics you find difficult.
  • Answer with Clarity: You must present your answers properly. So your answers provide clarity while answering the questions asked. This might help your scores significantly. Make your points structured and neat.
  • Visuals for Better Presentation: Highlight the important points and add diagrams and flow charts. Also, maintain good handwriting for better readability.

Read through the previous year’s questions and see if there is a pattern in topics. Focus on the important topics and always revise the difficult topics for better understanding.

Are placement stats of IIM Ranchi fake?

RG
Ridhima Grover Posted On : January 11th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Management Ranchi (Graduated 2019)

The placement statistics released by IIM Ranchi are not particularly fake but yes very exaggerated. For example, the recruiters who just recruited 2-3 students a couple of years ago are still added to the list of recruiters. This tactic is employed to show off the brands of top companies.

The CTC is calculated wrongly and also exaggerated. The same role offered by the same company to students of other B Schools is shown at IIM Ranchi to offer a CTC higher to its own students. This reality is wrong and not what the company promised. This has now come into the notice of many and IIM Ranchi Is slowly losing its reputation. The students feel cheated because many students chose Ranchi over other IIMs despite calls from them just because of its placement statistics.

One way to clear the misconception is to check the NIRF placement report. You can see from it that Ranchi lies below Trichy and even Udaipur. So do your part of research before finally choosing IIM Ranchi.

Which college is better, AIIMS Nagpur or GMC Nagpur?

AJ
Advait Joshi Posted On : May 30th, 2023
Lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

In order to determine, which of the two; AIIMS Nagpur and GMC is better, I have listed the pros of the two institutes individually. Go for the institute that appeals to you the most.

Pros of GMC Nagpur

  • GMC Nagpur delivers top-quality education and has a top-notch lab equipped with the latest instruments.
  • It is the largest medical college in Asia. The campus is surrounded by greenery and has a pleasant ambiance.
  • There are separate opds and wards for most of the departments.
  • GMC Nagpur has a huge patient inflow and is large and managed by a good number of resident doctors
  • Gmc Nagpur has its own Trauma center and Superspeciality hospital in addition to wards for TB and infectious diseases.
  • There are separate hostels for both boys and girls with all the general amenities.
  • GMC Nagpur has its own ground for sports and other recreational activities.

It certainly is a decent choice for pursuing Mbbs,MS,MD etc .

Pros of AIIMS Nagpur

The AIIMS tag in itself carries huge weightage.

  • AIIMS is known for its strong focus on clinical aspects rather than theoretical aspects.
  • The plans for building its campus seem very promising in the near future.
  • Good hostel facilities are available for both boys and girls.
  • However, AIIMS Nagpur is dependent on GMC Nagpur for a lot of things such as campus facilities.

I would always suggest you go for GMC Nagpur as it has better facilities than AIIMS Nagpur and seems more promising.

Is a 2.54 CGPA good?

AJ
Advait Joshi Posted On : May 17th, 2023
Lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

With the national average GPA around 3.0, a 2.5 GPA is definitely not a good CGPA. A 2.5 GPA basically means that you’ve only scored C-s and D+s in your junior high coursework so far. Such low grades might hamper your admission to colleges. The average GPA for college applicants is more important than the national average.

Here is how your 2.5 CGPA will affect you in various stages

Freshman: A 2.5 GPA will make it difficult for you to secure admission to many four-year institutions. Your primary focus should be on how to make the most out of your grades and improve them. Here are a few ways to improve your grades

  • Take only a few challenging courses and keep your academic palettes as light as possible.
  • Working constantly on assignments that you are weak on
  • Make your course load as light as possible by taking as few challenging courses as possible.
  • Ask your tutor to evaluate and review your progress regularly.

Sophomore: As a sophomore 2.5 CGPA isn’t much of an issue though your college options might get limited. It’s good that you still have the rest of your junior year to improve your GPA.

What is the best advice a senior gave you at BIT Mesra?

RP
Rishabh Pant Posted On : May 10th, 2021
Studied B.Com from Delhi University

My brother is from BIT Mesra, so I think I can help you by answering this.

  • The most common mistake that first-year students make is joining several of the clubs in the mistaken belief that these decisions would pay off in the long run.
  • My brother was fortunate to have a senior who advised him not to join these clubs, but instead to seek out clubs such as ACM, IEI, UNESCO, and others that have minimal politics and invited students to join the club based on their performance in the various activities of the club.
  • As a CSE student, he followed and participated in ACM activities religiously. This not only helped him improve himself, but it also gave him the self-belief and confidence that everyone needs to succeed in their professional life.

The same senior advised him to maintain a good CGPA throughout the academic year. He also asked him to practice coding.

In short, ACM and/or open-source stuff is the way to go for a CSE guy.

What if I missed the last date for applying an Original Degree (OD) at JNTUH?

SP
Sreeja Prasad Posted On : March 28th, 2023
B.Tech,Computer Science from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University,Hyderabad (2017)

If you have missed the last date for applying for an Original Degree (OD) at JNTUH, you may still be able to apply for it by paying a late fee. However, the availability of this option and the amount of the late fee may vary depending on the rules and regulations of JNTUH.

It is advisable to contact the JNTUH Examination Branch or the concerned department at the earliest and explain your situation. They may be able to provide you with more information and guidance on what steps you can take next.

In some cases, it may not be possible to apply for an OD after the deadline has passed. In such a situation, you may need to wait for the next cycle of OD applications or explore other options such as applying for a duplicate certificate or transcript.
