How are the hostels like at NIT Calicut? Is there a single occupancy for M.Tech students?

RS
Rachita Sinha Posted On : September 5th, 2022
B.Tech. from National Institute of Technology, Calicut

NIT Calicut offers decent hostel accommodations. The rooms are double or triple sharing. The institute offers basic amenities such as beds, cupboards, and tables. Hostel rooms have adequate lighting and ventilation. Bathrooms are shared by several rooms. Rooms and washrooms are cleaned regularly. The mess facilities are good. They offer a mix of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food.

M.Tech students aren’t offered single occupancy rooms, by NIT Calicut.

How are the hostels like at NIT Calicut? Is there single occupancy for Mtech students?

AR

No, NIT Calicut does not have single occupancy for PG students as of now.

First Year – You will be accommodated in the professor’s apartment,t which consists of three rooms, one hall, and a kitchen. You need to share your room with at least three people, which may vary based on the number of students.

Second Year – The students will be shifted to MBA hostels, which are much like first-year apartments with an attached bathroom

So, you don’t have a chance to enjoy single-room life at NIT Calicut

Which is better for an M. Tech. degree in CSE from a placement perspective, IIT Guwahati or IIT Roorkee?

AM
Anirudh Mukharjee Posted On : May 5th, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (IITG)

My brother was in a similar dilemma when he had to choose between IIT Guwahati and IIT Roorkee for MTech in CSE. Eventually, he went for IIT Roorkee because his sole focus was to secure a job as soon as possible.

  • As far as placements are concerned, IIT Roorkee is better both in terms of the number of companies visiting and the average package.
  • The course structure of IIT Roorkee has been recently dated and it is much better than the older one.
  • IIT Roorkee is in close proximity to Delhi so you can have a taste of the city life as well.

IIT Guwahati has better research opportunities and culture than IIT Roorkee.

All in all, if it’s a job you are after, IIT Roorkee is the best choice but if you want to pursue a career in research, IIT Guwahati is the best place for you.

Choosing one institute between IIEST, NIT Durgapur and NIT Rourkela depends on your interests and preferences. If you want to spend your college life conducting cutting-edge research and making projects, IIEST is the one for you. But if you want an active campus life with a lot of fun activities going on and an average workload, then choose one between Durgapur and NIT Rourkela.

Personally, I will recommend you to join NIT Rourkela as it’s among the top 5 NITs. Its campus is second only to IIT KGP, one of the largest in the country. It has an active club culture so you can also pursue your passions alongside your academics.

How are the placements at NIT Surathkal for an M.Tech in thermal?

AC
Arindam Chakraborty Posted On : September 15th, 2023
Studied at National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal

In all engineering colleges, BTech students are given more preference than MTech students because they can do the job at a lesser salary than MTech students. Moreover, they are more in number and are ready to grab any role whatsoever. MTech students on the other hand prefer core jobs that align with their academic profile and specific interests. So the placement opportunities offered to Masters students are less. Mostly, they have two options to choose from, academia or corporate.

  • Academics: Many institutes offer teaching positions to master students either as a college professor or for the role of an instructor at an Entrance Exam preparation institute, Master students of the Thermal branch are eligible for these roles.
  • Corporate: The Mechanical department students are often recruited by companies like GE, Mercedes, Bosch, Yazaki, Alstom, etc. do come for recruitment. The requirements vary each year. In reality, the chances of landing a job as an MTech student at NIT Surathkal depend on the market rather than the institute.

NITK offers a great research culture that instills all the necessary skills. The placements are unpredictable though. Ultimately I will advise you to opt for a Master’s degree only if you are really interested in getting a specialization degree because there is no guarantee you’ll get a job in the end.

Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) is a public engineering university, situated in Varanasi. The institute is built over a massive 1300 acre campus with top-notch facilities It offers an online mode of admission. The institute has tie-ups with the University of Cambridge (UK), University of Oxford (UK), University of Sheffield (UK). About the Course:

  • The institute offers M.Tech in Civil Engineering as a full-time two-year course at a fee of Rs 53,050 for the full period.
  • The course has 29 seats available at IIT BHU.

Placements

  • Placement rates for civil engineering in most institutes are low, IIT BHU is no different in this respect.
  • As compared to other branches, the number of companies coming for placements are less.
  • Top companies for civil include L&T, Indian Oil, and Flipkart.
  • The median salary at the institute is 8.1 LPA, whilst, the average package is approximately 8.2 LPA.

Recruiters from Indian and foreign companies visit the campus for placements. However, civil engineering rarely helps students land good placements as compared to other courses. Still with IIT being a renowned university student bag decent placement offers which average around 8 lakhs per annum, while the highest package may go upwards of 15LPA.

With various international tie-ups, the institute has enhanced its learning experience and placement facilities. If you want good placements, it would be suggested you opt for a different branch of engineering.

How is MTech in VLSI from IIT KGP as compared to IIT Kanpur?

SG
Senjuti Gupta Posted On : April 24th, 2023
studied at IIT Kgp

VLSI has become one of the most preferred branches of the ECE department. Its placements are similar across all the top IITs with the top recruiters being Intel, Qualcomm, Texas Instruments, Cadence, Synopsis, Analog Devices, TSMC, etc.

However, the difference lies in the quality of professors and their respective expertise. A few IITs with their area of specialization are as follows

  • IIT Madras: Analog
  • IIT Bombay: Digital
  • IIT KGP: Analog and Digital
  • IIT Kanpur: SP. Comm

If placements are your only concern, I will suggest you go for IIT KGP which usually enjoys 100% placements with an average package of around INR 17 LPA.
