It is important to note that the Indian School of Business (ISB) does not offer a specific course structure that trains students to become Human Resource Managers. The Post Graduate Program in Management (PGP) at ISB is a general management program that covers various aspects of business, including human resources. However, the Fellow Program in Management does have an area called Organizational Behaviour and Strategy which is closely related to Human Resource Management.
While at ISB, students have the opportunity to take subjects related to human resources such as Strategy and Leadership, Entrepreneurship, Healthcare, Public Policy, and Strategic Performance Management. Additionally, ISB hosts a 2-3 day program for executives that focuses on linking human resources with business strategy. However, this program cannot be considered a specialization.
If you are specifically looking to specialize in Human Resource Management, you may want to consider other business schools such as the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, XLRI Jamshedpur, Xavier Institute of Management Bhubhaneshwar, or Xavier Institute of Social Service Ranchi, which offer full-time courses in Human Resource Management. Additionally, there are short certification programs offered by organizations such as Talent Management Institute, HR Certification Institute, Society for Human Resource Management, and Human Capital Institute, which could be a good option for working professionals looking to change their field of work or add HR credentials to their CVs. These programs are also cheaper than regular full-time courses.
IIM Kozhikode does not offer any specialization degree. It offers a General Management or PGDM (Post Graduate Diploma in Management). This is somewhat equivalent to an MBA. It doesn’t offer specific PGDM in Operations, Finance, HR, etc.
A variety of electives are offered in the second year. You may choose these on the basis of your interests and the career you wish to pursue.
The area offers a list of elective courses in which the students choose to have a career in the human resource field or develop their people management competency. Some elective courses are as follows:
Legal Aspects of HRM
Strategic HRM
Some Recent OB Inputs for Enhancing Employee Performance and Humanistic Orientation in Workplace
Compensation and Rewards Management
Performance Management
Leadership: Applied, Conceptual and Evolving
Discovering Self
Negotiations & Conflicts Resolution
Management Consulting: Profession and Practice
Managing Creativity
Organization Change and Development
Recruitment & Selection
Honestly, IIM Kozhikode is not a good option for HR. IIM Ranchi or SCMHRD are better options for the same.
It's important to consider all of your options and make an informed decision.
One option that you may want to consider is signing up for a compensation program under World at Work. This program could provide you with valuable training and resources that could help you in your career.
By participating in this program, you could learn about best practices for compensation and benefits, as well as gain insights into current trends and issues in this field. You may also have the opportunity to network with other professionals and expand your knowledge and skills.
HR Analytics certification program from IIM Rohtak can be a good option for you if you are interested in advancing your knowledge and skills in the field of HR Analytics. By completing this certification program, you could gain a competitive edge in the job market and increase your chances of securing high-paying roles in HR analytics. Additionally, the program could help you develop the technical and analytical skills needed to succeed in this field.
PGCPF at IIM Indore caters to working professionals who are looking for managerial positions in their respective organizations. These professionals must have more than 4 years of industry experience.
This program is a great source of networking because of its rich batch profile. The students of this course belong to diverse fields including CA, CS, Engineering, Banking, BFSI, Academics, Professorship, etc. The professional benefit of this course may be an increment or a promotion, or both. But its most important benefit is knowledge upgradation and networking opportunities.
PGCPF at IIM Indore offers good career benefits to industry professionals.
Rather than inquiring about the worth of a course, one should analyze whether the course is suitable for them or not. Your preference should be a priority not the worth of the course.
That being said, Executive MBA programs are suitable for
If you don’t belong to any of these 2 categories, then the course is of no real value for you. This is because this program is far sighted and focuses on managerial elements like Organization and Strategies. Unless you are a consultant or a top manager this knowledge will be of little use. So go for it once you belong to one of the two categories only.
XLRI has a strong reputation for Human Resource (HR) management and Industrial Relations (IR) studies. If an individual is specifically interested in HR/IR, then XLRI would be a better option compared to NMIMS (Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies). However, if you are looking for a general management program, then NMIMS would be a better choice because of its excellent peer group and rigorous curriculum.
XLRI is still a good institute for other streams, but it is more specialized in HR and IR. Similarly, NMIMS is known for its general management program, and it may not have the same level of expertise as XLRI in HR/IR.
Both the certification courses PMP and SSGB fall under the Operations domain yet are very different in reality.
PMP: This course facilitates handling and delivering projects efficiently and quickly. If you are interested in Project Management, the best option is the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification which is affiliated with Project Management Institute, PMI, USA. It
also provides PDUs.
SSBM: This course facilitates proper optimization of business processes, minimizing waste and time wastage. If you are interested in the Six Sigma Green Belt (SSGB), then Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) Kolkata is the best option available. Some even think ISI Pune is good yet I will recommend you to go for Kolkata itself.
SPJIMR PGPFMB (Post Graduate Programme in Family Managed Business) is a better and clear choice between the two.
This program was launched by SPJIMR in the year 1997, so it is quite a renowned program. This program has a network of 4000+ alumni to take guidance from. This program offers a classroom learning experience, and it last for 18 months.
The fee for the program is 16 lac for 18 months. While the GFMB program was launched recently by SP Jain Global, so if you have a choice, then I would recommend you to go for PGPFMB.
The EGMP or Executive General Management Program aims at providing comprehensive knowledge of business that helps managers enhance their decision-making skills.
