How much mark should I score in IPMAT to ensure my admission to IIM-INDORE'S IPM?
IPMAT marks required for IIM Indore IPM (Integrated Programme in Management):
IIM Indore's IPM (5-year integrated BBA-MBA) admission via IPMAT:
- IPMAT cut-off for shortlisting: typically 40-50 correct answers out of 100 in Quantitative Ability, and 40-45+ in Verbal Ability to be shortlisted for the Interview round. these are approximate — they vary each year
- For the final selection (Shortlist + Interview): aim for a combined score of 80-90+ out of 100 to have a realistic chance. top selected candidates typically score 90-95+
- 12th board marks: 60% minimum for general category. boards also factor into final selection
- Personal interview: critical component. communication, current affairs, logical thinking are tested
IPMAT is a competitive exam. 2-3 months of dedicated prep (CAT-level QA + strong reading/vocab for VA) is typically needed. previous year question papers from iimindore.ac.in are the best prep resource. also check IIM Rohtak/IIM Ranchi IPMAT as they have similar programs with same exam.
Which college is better: Deshbandhu, PGDAV or Motilal Nehru?
You should give preference to PGDAV or Motilal Nehru. These two colleges belong to the same tier and offer good academics and placements. PGDAV College placements are above average. For the 2020-21 session, more than 150 recruiters visited the campus placement. The highest CTC offered to students was INR 19.50 LPA. If you are a sports enthusiast, you should prefer PGDAV, it has excellent sports facilities.
Matilal has a decent placement record. Students with good academics get job offers through campus placements. The highest CTC offered to the students ranges between INR 10-12 LPA.
How many times can we appear for a back paper in a degree in Gauhati University?
At Gauhati University, you can appear for your back papers in alternate semesters. So, you can appear for your 1st year back papers in your 3rd and 5th semesters and not in your 2nd and 4th semesters.
You can take your back paper as many times as you want. However, you need to clear all your back papers within 6 years of your admission. Also, you can’t appear in your 6th-semester examination, until you have cleared all the papers for your 1st and 2nd semesters including all your back papers.
What is your experience in Allahabad University?
Allahabad University offers a good campus experience. The architecture of the main campus is beautiful. Students are provided with ample facilities and resources. The university library has a decent collection of course books. The environment on campus is adaptable. You will meet people from all over the country on campus. The seniors are helpful.
AU has strict rules and regulations regarding attendance and uniforms. At times, you may feel like, you are still in school.
I didn't study computer science in 11th and 12th grade, but now I wish to pursue computer science at the Manipal Institute of Technology. Is it a good decision to do so?
Even I began programming at Manipal Institute of Technology itself. I didn’t opt for Computer Science during 11th and 12th.
In the first few months, you’ll find a gap between those who can’t code and those who already can. The first few lectures will be quite difficult to understand. During your three hour lab sessions, you’ll struggle to complete the assigned programs on time. On the other hand, there will be students who will complete the same task much faster. You might even score less in the first few tests.
Now after all this, you’ll feel disheartened and approach people for help. Many will misguide you towards a branch change. This is when you have to choose- either you run away or face your fears. You’ll have to work hard and learn programming.
Do plenty of reading, approach your faculty with doubts, and seek help from friends who know programming. Manipal provides a good learning environment. It’s just that you’ll have to exhibit a lot of patience and hard work.
Pursuing my CSE from Manipal was the best decision I made. If you follow my advice, by the time you graduate, you’ll be at par with the rest of your batch.
If Manipal Institute of Technology is so good, why are there so few selections in GSoC, or no selection in ACM ICPC from it?
First of all, the quality of an institute can’t be assessed by the number of selections in GSoC and ACM ICPC from it. Indian colleges provide no special training for GSoC. The selections are completely based on the efforts and skills of students.
My friend from the Manipal Institute of Technology got selected for GSoC a few years back. He did it in his first year itself. There were others in his batch who would’ve gotten selected had they applied.
Now the reasons for a low participation rate in GSoC may be as under-
- Low interest in FOSS . The time and coding effort required in FOSS can be put in algorithmic challenges. The latter can be made competitive unlike FOSS contribution and is more closely related to the coursework. Companies also test algorithmic knowledge first, so people are more inclined towards that.
- Lack of mentors . For open-source development, a good mentor is needed.
As for ACM-ICPC, the teams from Manipal do make it to the on-site. However, the selection rate is low because of poor strategy and poor planning. The teams are unbalanced as well.
Manipal has a good programming culture. There are weekly Code Meets where students meet up and discuss random algorithms and problem-solving techniques, past questions from competitions like ACM-ICPC, and general questions from SPOJ. Clubs like IE CSE, IEEE Manipal, and ISTE host coding competitions throughout the year. Manipal hosts dedicated tech fests for coding and computers.
Even though Manipal doesn’t perform too well in GSoC and ICPC, the students are making constant efforts to improve in that direction. Also, this is an irrelevant criterion for judging the quality of education in an institution.
What are some of the Interesting/Crazy stories at IIIT - Allahabad?
One of my friends told a story of IIIT Allahabad. It was in his 7th semester when this took place. We were just done with the farewell. He was presenting his end-semester project, and a batchmate called him and told him that there was a surprise check in the hostel. A friend wanted him to come to the hostel immediately.
He hurried up his presentation and ran to the hostel. When he reached, Karan and Raif were in the warden's room. He entered and Virender lined up 5-6 liquor bottles on the table. He pointed to 2-3 bottles kept on the floor and told them that they found this and the 5-6 bottles in his room. He also found a bucket that was filled with green water and some green matter on the top. The table was black from the ash, and the floor was littered with cigarette buds.
He goes on to lecture them about cleanliness and how he wanted them out of the hostel. This resulted in begging and pleading. Karan got pissed and started lashing out at Virender on how the cleaning guy is careless. My friend and Raif somehow stopped his yelling and got back to begging. It was their final month anyway since they had to go to their internships.
He finally relents and gives them an hour or something to clean everything up. So they go upstairs and start the cleaning themselves. He was using a broom and cleaning everything, carelessly. Karan yelled why are you using broom like that (using curse words), and at that moment another batchmate walked in who incidentally was nicknamed 'broom' and got offended and started using curse words as well.
The situation was hilarious and was one of the craziest moments we witnessed in IIIT Allahabad.
How can I get transcripts from Annamalai University?
The best possible way to get transcripts is to visit the university and apply for it. A friend of mine strongly suggested not to apply through any middle agents or online transcript agencies. You can send in a representative with a letter of authorization provided by the candidate.
The complete process takes a couple of days. Once you have arrived at the university then go to the examination office for further direction. You will need copies of:
- Marksheets
- Consolidated Marksheet (if any)
- Provisional Degree Certificate
- Degree Certificate
- Payment Receipt
The cost of the transcripts is around Rs.3500 including the courier charges. However, if you wish to inquire at the front office as they will guide better regarding the required fee and other procedures. They would also give you a form to be filled with all the details.
You will be advised to go to a browsing centre to do the payment from the university staff. So, do the payment via a computer rather than the phone. Here are the steps that would help you make payments online:
- Open the university website, go to the examinations, fees, other miscellaneous fees.
- You will have to enter the amount and pay for it online. However, the payment would be slow and it would go through.
- If you don't get the acknowledgment slip then simply enter the enrollment number again and click on acknowledge and one will get the receipt and take a printout of that slip.
Once the payment is done then you need to go to an officer for the seal and stamp. Then you will be asked to meet the Chief examinations officer for documents verification. After all this work, the work at the university is done. Put all the documents in an envelope and seal it as per the requirements and the university itself would courier it to the required personal.
The university provides a telephone number that you can use to call them to get the tracking number. However, the calls do not get answered. My personal advice would be to go to the university as it works faster. Try to arrive early as it will fasten up your process. Do not approach any middle man or any other online transcript services as the University has strict rules regarding it and they do not acknowledge it.
What is the difference in doing a six year MCh neurology course in NIMHANS and in other colleges in India?
It won't be right to talk about other institutions that offer Neurosurgery, but as one of my friends studied at NIMHANS, I will be able to share some details about it, analyzing which you can make your choice.
- Being a referral centre, NIMHANS receives lots of patients.
- The OPD’s will run up to modest hours in the evening and with cases ranging from PIVD to brainstem gliomas.
- The casualty will have a dedicated trauma team that receives 100–150 trauma cases per day, ranging from mild concussions to SAH.
- OT will run on all working days or all days in case of emergencies.
- The surgeries include aneurysmal clipping to functional surgeries such as DBS or functional hemispherectomy.
- There will be academic programs throughout the week including general classes to journal clubs.
- The main focus falls on clinical work, so you will get a lot of raw material to work with to gain clinical knowledge.
- If your interest lies in research, there are competing people there also, to encourage and guide you.
Ultimately, it is your duty to gather information from the cases, and what you learn from each of them after completing the clinical work. Always be ready to face any situation and work a hectic schedule.
After recent revelations regarding IIM Calcutta placements, is it wiser to choose IIM A/B/ L, XLRI or FMS over IIM Calcutta?
Every institute has its own shortcomings. If you choose IIM A/B/L or XLRI or FMS over IIM Calcutta, do you think you will not face any problems there? It’s just that their flaws haven’t been exposed yet. The fact that someone had the courage to come up and challenge IIM Calcutta is enough to prove its worth. The revelations were made by an IIM Calcutta student itself. This also proves the confidence level and leadership skills of these students are remarkable.
Besides, IIM Calcutta is among the best for a reason. Some casual claims cannot rain its reputation.
