Which college has better placements for an M.Tech in ECE, IISC or IITM?

DS
Deeraj Shah Posted On : March 21st, 2022
M.Tech from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (2020)

IISc and IITM both offer good placements opportunities for M.Tech ECE. Same core companies visit the campuses, especially for ECE branches of Micro-Electronics and Electronics Systems Engineering.

Due to the small batch size, competition is much less at IISc. Some of the major recruiters were Texas Instruments, Cisco, Analog Devices, etc. The highlights of IISc M.Tech ECE placements report an average CTC of INR 15 LPA.

Dring the 2021 placement drive of IITM, M.Tech students received an average CTC of INR 16.84 LPA.

Which one should I opt for IIT Delhi B.Tech Computer Science Engineering or IIT Madras B.Tech Naval architecture & Ocean Engineering

G
GalacticGarlicBread Posted On : April 4th, 2026

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering offers a stronger edge in placements and internships compared to IIT Madras's B.Tech in Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering. With companies like Amazon and Google actively recruiting from IIT Delhi, the opportunities for high-paying jobs are substantial, especially with a curriculum focused on AI/ML, which is in high demand. While IIT Madras has its merits, especially in niche engineering fields, the broader tech industry offers more lucrative prospects for CS graduates. Therefore, if you're aiming for a career in a booming field with better job packages, IIT Delhi would be the better choice; however, if you're passionate about naval architecture and ocean engineering, then IIT Madras can still provide a fulfilling career path.

Should I go for B.Tech Textile Technology in IIT Delhi or B.Tech (Computer Science and Engineering) in IIT Madras?

B
BurningBrush Posted On : March 28th, 2026

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Textile Technology offers solid placements with over 90% of students getting hired, but the highest packages are lower compared to IIT Madras. In contrast, IIT Madras's Computer Science and Engineering program boasts impressive placement stats, with top packages reaching up to 2.5 crore per annum and an average of 20 lakh, making it a hotspot for tech talent. If you're leaning towards a tech career with high earning potential, IIT Madras is clearly the better option. However, if you're passionate about textiles and prefer a less intense curriculum, IIT Delhi could be a good fit. Ultimately, it depends on your career goals and interests.

Which is better, aeronautics dual degree at IIT Madras or electrical at IIT Bhubaneswar?

LB
Lovish Bajaj Posted On : June 21st, 2024
Studied at IIT Kanpur

I think I am qualified to answer this question as I graduated from IIT Madras Aeronautics department and I am working for Boeing in the USA.

You should choose IIT Madras due to following reasons:-

  • Aeronautical Engineering is one of the evolving and emerging domains in India and has a huge growth potential.
  • Dual Degree is a more research-oriented degree.
  • According to the statistics, among the students pursuing dual degree programs in Aeronautics from IIT Madras, 90% are placed with good packages.
  • IIT Bhubaneswar has a NIRF ranking 47th with IIT Madras at 1st.
  • The Average salary for IIT Bhubaneswar Electrical Program is 19 LPA.
  • The Average package for IIT Madras Aerospace Engineering is 21 LPA.
  • The Highest package for IIT Madras Aerospace Engineering is 66 LPA.

Which is better, IIT Chemical, Chennai for 5 years or IIT Bhubaneswar Electrical?

SR
Subhameeta Roy Posted On : August 14th, 2020
CSE from IITBBSR (2020)

As an institute, IIT Madras is much ahead of IIT Bhubaneswar, as it is one of the oldest and reputed IITs. But electrical engineering in IIT Bhubaneswar is quite good and offers many opportunities. The institute also has very impressive placement stats. In the year 2019, around 86% of students got placed from the Electrical engineering branch. The official average package for the batch 2017 as released by the institute (IIT Bhubaneswar) for Electrical Engineering was 8.5 LPA. A good number of core companies, software companies and PSU’s hire Electrical Engineers (EE) from IIT Bhubaneswar.

Also, Chemical engineering is a great branch with many prospects. Companies like O&G, Chemical Research firms- for both India & abroad visit regularly for placements. The non- core companies like Fin, MC. Techs are also open for Chemical Engineers. IITM offers decent placements, in 2019 there was 85.52% placement from duel degrees and the placement rate for Chemical Engineers was around 74%. The average CTC offered in IITM was 16 LPA.

IITM is good for the students who are interested in chemical engineering and would like to pursue MS/Ph.D. in the top universities. If you are looking for careers in research then chemical engineering provides ample opportunities. Getting a dual degree will also build a way for R&D roles in many companies such as ITC, Shell, HUL, etc. Also, the best part about going for chemical engineering is that it provides ample opportunities for people to prepare for non-core sectors as well.

So, choose the branch of your interest.

Can I get an IIT with 4000 JEE Advanced Rank?

HS
Harish Sharma Posted On : May 3rd, 2026

4,000 JEE Advanced rank is genuinely a solid score — you're in the top ~22% of all qualified candidates and most IIT seats are within reach.

what you can realistically get (general category):

  • Good IITs in non-CSE branches: IIT Roorkee (Chemical, Civil, Mech, Electrical), IIT Guwahati (similar branches), IIT BHU/IIT Dhanbad (ECE, EE, Mech) are realistic
  • IIT Kharagpur, IIT Kanpur: some non-core branches might just open at 4000
  • IIT Delhi: very limited at 4000 general — some interdisciplinary programs (Maths & Computing, Engineering Physics) may open but CSE/ECE/EE won't
  • IIT Bombay, Madras: highly unlikely at 4000 general for any branch
  • Newer IITs (Bhilai, Goa, Dharwad): easy to get CSE/ECE here

one thing people miss — if you're female, the supernumerary seats at all IITs have more relaxed cutoffs than gender-neutral seats, so more doors open. similarly, if you're OBC/SC/ST check your category rank separately — 4000 AIR with a good category rank can get you significantly better options.

What is the HTRA & NHTRA scheme in IIT Madras?

AV
Aditi Verma Posted On : May 1st, 2026

so HTRA and NHTRA are two categories of admission for MS/PhD at IIT Madras — the main difference is whether you get a stipend or not.

HTRA (Half-Time Research Assistantship):

  • you get a monthly stipend: Rs.37,000/month for PhD (yrs 1-2), Rs.42,000 for yrs 3-5; Rs.12,400/month for MS
  • in exchange, you do 8 hours/week of teaching/research assistantship work for the department
  • requires valid GATE or UGC/CSIR NET score to be eligible
  • most competitive seats, selected via departmental interview/written test

NHTRA (No assistantship):

  • same program, same degree, same labs, same research supervisor
  • zero monthly stipend from the institute
  • candidates without GATE score or from sponsored/project categories usually fall here
  • can potentially convert to HTRA later if you meet eligibility criteria and get department recommendation

practical take — if you have GATE score, try hard for HTRA because Rs.37-42k/month essentially covers living expenses at IIT Madras. NHTRA is fine if you have external fellowship (JRF, INSPIRE etc.) or company sponsorship. same degree at the end of the day though.

How can I get lateral entry admission into B.Tech at IIT Madras after completing a diploma?

Muskan Agrahari Posted On : June 24th, 2025

No, IIT Madras does not offer lateral entry admission to their B.Tech programs for diploma holders. IITs (IIT Madras included) offer admission only through the JEE Advanced exam, and all the students are required to join from the first year regardless of prior qualifications.
If you are seriously looking for details of IIT Madras, your only option is to study and qualify in JEE Advanced and begin the B.Tech in the first year.

What You Can Do Instead:

Option Details
JEE Advanced Appear for JEE Main ? qualify for JEE Advanced ? get a good rank
Start from 1st year Even diploma holders must begin from first year in IITs
Alternative Routes Consider NITs/state colleges offering lateral entry via LEET
IIT-M Online B.Sc. Program Consider IIT Madras’s online B.Sc. in Data Science—open to all
