The hostel fee at IIT Roorkee is around INR 15,000 per semester for male and female students. This charge consists of INR 10,000 as accommodation cost and INR 5,000 as electricity cost. This is the hostel fee for unmarried students, married students have a different fee structure for the IITR hostel facility.

IIT Roorkee is India's top technical college which spreads across approx. 358 acres. IIT Roorkee has an excellent ultra-modern hostel which is equipped with plenty of facilities and all major amenities required by students.

10 hostels are for male and three are for female students. Apart from that, IIT Roorkee also provides hostels for married students pursuing PhD or any other courses. There are 6 married hostels and only 1 Co-Ed Hostel. IIT Roorkee has sports facilities, a cafeteria, plenty of hangout places, banks, a post office, railway reservation counter, a hospital, places of worship, and other such facilities.

The main campus of the IIT Roorkee is situated in the Roorkee city, in the Haridwar District of Uttarakhand (UK). The main Roorkee campus is 358.5 acres big with a total build-up area of 5,09,295.67 Sq. Mts. on it. The campus spans an expansive area with academic buildings, hostels, research facilities, recreational areas, gardens and more.

Other than the main campus, IIT Roorkee also has a campus in Saharanpur which was a recent addition. The Saharanpur campus has a geographical footprint of 25 acres. The Greater Noida campus is the most recent addition and houses a few centres of excellence. This campus is 10 acres big.

IIT Roorkee Saharanpur campus was established in 2001. The School of Paper Technology was established by the Indian Government in 1964. It merged with the University of Roorkee in 1978 and was later renamed as IIT Roorkee, Saharanpur campus. 

Currently, it offers MTech and PhD programs in process and polymer, applied science and paper technology. The campus is well-equipped with modern facilities and laboratories fostering a robust academic environment. The faculties are distinguished scholars dedicated to providing quality education to students. 

The hostel building is new with all the amenities like wifi and security. There is also a mess and canteen facilities serving clean and hygienic food. There is also a fully functioning hospital on the campus and an Apollo pharmacy that is open 24 hours. There is also a sports ground for interested students. The campus has seen a total of 12,911 students, 600 faculty members and more than 400 staff members since its inception. The campus has also granted more than 250+ patents.

Through online courses, IIT Roorkee aims to provide quality education to global students who cannot access in-class learning. These courses are flexible and can be completed as per the student's liking. The E-Learning Centre (ELC) of IIT Roorkee is responsible for creating and maintaining the online courses. It offers a total of 970 courses through departments like. 235 new courses were added recently. 

These courses are offered two times a year - January to April and July to October. Students are also provided with a certificate upon the completion of the course. They have to pay INR 1,000 for the certificate.

The current director of IIT Roorkee is Prof. Kamal Kishor Pant. He became the director of IIT Roorkee on October 12, 2022. His fields of interest include catalysis and reaction engineering, with expertise in coal-to-methanol conversion, e-waste and plastic management. He is a recognised scientist with Stanford University identifying him as the top 2% scientist in his field. 

He is a PhD holder in chemical engineering. He previously was Chair Professor of Petrotech Chair and Federation of Indian Petroleum Industries (FIPI), Chairman of GATE and JAM and Chairman, Library, Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering, and Dean of Faculty at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. GYTI (twice), CHEMCON, Herdilia Award and Dr A V Rama Rao are some of the honours that Prof. Kamal Kishor Pant has received over the years. 

The total IIT Roorkee fees for 4 year BTech course is INR 11.64 lakhs. SC and ST students do not have to pay the tuition fee for BTech courses at IIT Roorkee. A fee waiver is also available for students belonging to EWS sections.

The Department of Architecture and Planning at IIT Roorkee is known for its quality education and offers courses like BArch, MArch and PhD. The salient features of the department are as follows.
