IIT Roorkee Saharanpur campus was established in 2001. The School of Paper Technology was established by the Indian Government in 1964. It merged with the University of Roorkee in 1978 and was later renamed as IIT Roorkee, Saharanpur campus.

These courses are flexible and can be completed as per the student's liking. The E-Learning Centre (ELC) of IIT Roorkee is responsible for creating and maintaining the online courses.
