What is the current scenario of placements for VLSI in IIT Roorkee and IIT Hyderabad?
I am a student of M.Tech VLSI Design at IIT Roorkee. Here are the placement details for each of these colleges in this domain-

Both the colleges offer good placements in VLSI. The placement figures of IIT Roorkee and IIT Hyderabad are very close to each other for this particular domain.
Sir, my son has taken MBA admission in IIT Roorkee (fee refundable), he has offer now from IIM Jammu. Please advise?

- Batch size - The batch size of IIT Roorkee is 66 whereas the batch size of IIM Jammu is 295
On the basis of the above parameters, I would suggest you go for IIT Roorkee.
Which is better, applied math at IIT Roorkee or CSE at any of the newer IITs like IIT Bhubaneswar or Jodhpur?
I am a second year student at IIT Roorkee. There are several reasons why choosing Applied Math at IITR over CSE at a newer IIT is a better option.
- IIT Roorkee has a strong national and international reputation as it is one of the oldest universities. Its alumni network is extensive and well-regarded. While IIT Bhubaneswar and IIT Jodhpur are rapidly growing and improving, they still don’t have the same recognition or reputation as IIT Roorkee.
- IIT Roorkee has a highly experienced and qualified faculty, particularly in the Mathematics Department. The exposure to high-quality teaching and mentorship can significantly enhance your academic experience.
- The Applied Mathematics program at IIT Roorkee offers strong theoretical foundations and practical applications, preparing you for diverse career paths.
- IIT Roorkee has a strong placement cell and a track record of excellent placement statistics across all departments. Companies value the IIT Roorkee brand, and students from Applied Mathematics often secure positions in top-tier companies, financial institutions, and reseorganizationstions.
Based on all these factors, I suggest you choose Applied Math at IIT Roorkee over CSE at IIT BBSR/Jodhpur.
Should I take Chemical Engineering at IIT Roorkee, ECE at IIT Bhubaneswar or EEE at IIT Mandi ?
The major factor that drives the decision of which course to pursue is the placements.
Chemical Engineering- IIT Roorkee
As per the 2018-19 placements record, more than 250 companies participated in campus placements, some of them were ITC, Reliance, Jindal Steel, TATA, and many more. Chemical Engineering Students at IIT Roorkee recorded an average placement of INR 13.05 lakhs per annum. A total of 8 PPOs were offered to Chemical Engineering students. Roles were offered for Technologist, Researcher, Data Scientist, Data Analyst, Consultant, etc. The placement rate for Chemical Engineering was around 80%.
ECE at IIT Bhubaneswar
ECE is one of the new branches of IIT Bhubaneswar and was introduced in 2016. Due to this, the first batch to pass out would be the batch of 2020. So there are no past records for this course. However, seeing the trend of placements for electrical engineering, the same can be assumed for ECE as well. In the year 2018-2019, 86% of the Electrical Engineering Department was placed. Companies like Amazon, INTEL Technology, ISRO, DELL, Thermax, Tata Steel, and many more visited to recruit students during campus placements. The average placement was recorded at INR Rs. 11.44 lakhs per annum.
EEE at IIT Mandi
As per 2019-20 placements, 62.5% of EEE were placed during phase-1 of campus placements. A total of 75 companies visited the campus and some of the top recruiters were Accenture, Wipro, CISCO, ISRO, CSC India, Siemens to name a few. The average package offered was 13.5 lakhs per annum. Several PPOs were also offered.
Considering the placements data, you should choose Chemical Engineering at IIT Roorkee. However, the final decision of which course and college to select rests up to you.
Will I regret joining IIT Roorkee for MBA leaving IMT, IMI, TAPMI?
IIT Roorkee will never be an option that you’ll regret. Here are some reasons why getting an MBA from an IIT like IIT-R is considerably different from getting one from a business school like XIMB or Tapmi.
- Infrastructure: Modern labs, classrooms, libraries, and other spaces were made available. Both the hostel's amenities and the meals at the mess were excellent. Students utilize bicycles to get to the department, which is around 500 meters from the dormitory.
- Placements: 90% of the batch was placed. In 2023 the highest package was INR 27.94 LPA and the average package offered was 18.34 LPA. Top recruiters were KPMG India, Bristlecone, Cognizant, ICICI Bank, etc. There are student exchange programmes with some of the top universities around the world which also is an added perk of studying in this university.
- Faculty: All the professors and assistant professors in the faculty were Ph.D. holders and had good acumen and knowledge.
How do the placements really compare between IIT Delhi B.Tech Electrical Engineering and IIT Roorkee B.Tech Civil Engineering?
IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Electrical Engineering and IIT Roorkee's B.Tech in Civil Engineering both come with their unique perks, but when it comes to fees and ROI, IIT Roorkee might be the smarter choice. IIT Delhi's fees are significantly high, which can be a financial burden for middle-class families, while IIT Roorkee offers relatively lower fees without compromising on the quality of education. The placement statistics indicate that IIT Delhi's Electrical branch has a decent placement rate, but the core engineering job landscape for Civil Engineering at IIT Roorkee is also strong, especially with government projects ramping up. Considering the value for money, prospective students from middle-class backgrounds might find IIT Roorkee a more affordable option that still provides excellent career opportunities. Ultimately, if you're leaning towards tech and can manage the fees, IIT Delhi is great, but for a more balanced financial commitment with solid placements, IIT Roorkee is the way to go.

Which one should I opt for IIT Delhi B.Tech Material Science Engineering or IIT Roorkee B.Tech Electronics & Communication Engineering
There’s no denying that Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE) has more job opportunities than Material Science Engineering. However, IIT Delhi is far superior to NITK in every aspect. You've worked hard to get into IIT, so take this chance or you might regret it later.
Here are some points to consider:
- You can change your department after the first year if you attend classes and put in some effort.
- You might end up enjoying your chosen department.
- You'll have more opportunities at IITs.
- You can also pursue a minor degree in a branch that interests you.

IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Textile Technology has impressive placement stats, with over 90% of students getting placed and some packages reaching 2.5 crore LPA, which is quite attractive. However, IIT Roorkee’s B.Tech in Electrical Engineering also boasts strong placement records, especially with big tech companies often recruiting in droves. Given that Roorkee generally has a broader appeal in terms of industries and roles available, I’d say it edges out slightly in job prospects. If you’re leaning towards tech or core engineering roles, IIT Roorkee might be a better fit, while IIT Delhi is great for those looking to pursue niche areas in textiles and startups.
How do the placements really compare between IIT Delhi B.Tech Mechanical Engineering and IIT Roorkee B.Tech Electronics & Communication Engineering?
IIT Delhi's B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering offers a comprehensive curriculum with abundant internship opportunities from top-tier companies like Google and Microsoft, making placements exceptionally strong, often above 85%. In contrast, while IIT Roorkee's B.Tech in Electronics & Communication Engineering has a solid reputation, the detailed insights into its placements are less clear, suggesting it may not quite match IIT Delhi's placement figures. Campus life at both institutes is vibrant, but IIT Delhi's diverse clubs and annual events like Rendezvous and Tryst add a unique flavor.
Personally, I'd lean towards IIT Delhi for its better placement prospects and overall student experience, especially if you aim for roles in top tech firms or wish to pursue higher studies abroad. If you're more inclined towards electronics and value a slightly different environment, IIT Roorkee is still an excellent choice.
