What bond does a student have to sign to get into AFMC Pune?

KR
Kriti Roy Posted On : May 3rd, 2026

AFMC Pune has two types of bond you commit to at admission — and both involve serving in the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) as a commissioned officer after your MBBS.

  • SSC (Short Service Commission): 7-year obligation after completing MBBS. you can do DNB after 4 years of service, but regular PG is only after completing 7 years
  • PC (Permanent Commission): you serve till retirement (~20 years). better career stability, slower track to PG

the penalty if you break the bond or leave early is Rs.69-71 lakh (updated 2025-26 figure — older answers say Rs.28L but that's outdated, the amount keeps going up). this applies even if you quit after just 1 week of joining.

what people don't fully realize before joining — you're not just a medical student at AFMC, you're essentially a cadet and future commissioned officer. discipline is military-level, unmarried policy throughout the course, no marriage allowed during MBBS. the upside is subsidized education, stipend during studies, and a guaranteed job with officer rank. if you value that service track, it's a great deal. if you just want to do regular MBBS and keep career options open — think carefully before signing.

Which college is better for a BTech, DTU or BITS Pilani??

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : July 3rd, 2023
lives in New Delhi

BITS Pilani is a much better option to pursue BTech than DTU. Here are a few aspects I have considered before arriving at this conclusion

  • Placements: The best part about BITS Pilani placements is that students of all branches are allowed to sit for all companies. In DTU however, mostly CSE students are allowed followed by ECE, ME, and other branches.
  • Batch size: The huge batch size of DTU results in immense competition during placements as companies only hire a fixed number of students from here while there is no such limitation on hiring the number of graduates from BITS.
  • Package: Some companies offer different packages to BITS and DTU students. For instance, Goldman Sachs offered INR 32 LPA in BITS but only INR 23 LPA in NITs, DTU, and NSIT.
  • Recruiters: All DTU recruiters visit BITS but not vice versa. Top companies like Apple, and Cisco only visit BITS.
  • Internship: BITS provides an internship for 6 months while DRU provides an internship for 2 months only so the exposure and experience gained are limited.
  • Hostel: BITS Pilani has excellent accommodation facilities whereas DTU has no accommodation facilities for Delhi residents.
  • Entrepreneurship: BITS has a better startup culture than DTU.
  • Freedom: The zero attendance policy at BITS is what attracts the majority of students here as they are instilled with a sense of freedom in their academic routine.

Considering the above factors it’s safe to say that BITS Pilani is a more lucrative option than DTU for BTech.

Do marks really increase in the IGNOU revaluation?

MM
Madhura Mukhopadhyay Posted On : October 21st, 2022
M.com in Master of Commerce, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)

If you are confident that you have written well and deserve more than the marks you have received, then go ahead and request revaluation.

Even if you're not sure, take the plunge. It will not cause you any harm. The best of the two marks, that is, before and after the revaluation, will be considered, so there is no need to worry. You simply need to believe in yourself and go for it if you believe that the grades you received are inadequate and should be increased.

How was your first day at IIT Delhi?

SP
Sona Panday Posted On : April 1st, 2023
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (2018)

Every IITian’s first day is a memory that stays with them forever, and is permanently ingrained, and so was my friend's first day at IIT Delhi.

At around 11 in the morning, students were escorted to Dogra Hall, wherein an orientation session was conducted by the IIT Delhi director who briefed us about the institute administration and clarified basic doubts. The students were impressed by his speech and the two points that resonated the most with my friend were

  • Students of IIT Delhi should target job creation and not job seeking.
  • Despite a well-structured academic curriculum and research culture, why hasn’t IIT Delhi still been able to make it into the hundred top institutes globally?

The orientation was followed by a tea session of 15 minutes at the LHC lobby. Students were escorted to department-wise orientation sessions that were addressed by the respective departmental heads. Once the orientation sessions concluded, students were asked to go back to the hostels, their new home for 4 years.

A few formalities have to be dealt with related to the hostel BSW volunteers and how secretaries will always be at your disposal assisting you in every possible way. After lunch, she interacted with a few of her wingmates.

The first day at IIT Delhi will surely leave a long-lasting impression on you and will be filled with exciting memories and discoveries.
