Why is NIT Trichy so overrated?

AG
Aditi Ghose Posted On : July 18th, 2023
studied at National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, India

I think, bringing down the reputation of top institutes and falsely defaming them has become a trend just to get more comments and attention. It's the students who are unable to make it into IITs and NITs that can be seen calling them overrated, overhyped, etc.

NIT Trichy is a highly regarded institute and is considered better than most of the IITs. If anything it is underrated just because it lacks the so-called IIT tag. One of my friends is an alumnus of NIT Trichy and claims its research output to be way higher than those of IITs and in fact some IIMs.

Placements-wise too, NIT Trichy is doing excellent and NIT Trichy Placements 2022 recorded the highest package of INR 40 LPA. Its excellent rankings are also a testament to its worth and credibility. In the engineering category, NIT Trichy ranks 8th right below the top 7 IITs, and above IIT Hyderabad.

NIT Trichy is worth the hype it deserves in terms of all; placements, ranking, and research.

How was your IIM Shillong interview experience?

AS
Akriti Sinha Posted On : March 22nd, 2022
MBA from Indian Institute of Management Shillong

In 2021, due to the pandemic situation, IIM Shillong conducted interviews online. The case-based GD round was scrapped. So, the IIM Shillong PI weightage for the 2021 selection was 70 percent. The remaining 30 percent was given to the CAT score.

The interview panel included two professors for most cases. Students were first asked questions based on their interests and background. There were a few questions based on their field of graduation. There were a few general questions like ‘Why MBA?’, AND ‘Why IIM Shillong?’ as well.

If you are a fresher, make sure that you are well-versed in the subjects covered in your graduation stream. Stay updated with the current affairs. Read up on IIM Shillong. You will definitely get questions from these topics, during your interview.

Is a gap year bad at IIM?

SD
Soumita Dasgupta Posted On : May 17th, 2023
MBA from IIM Calcutta

No, a gap year hardly affects your admission to IIMs or any B schools. The only thing to consider is that you should have a valid reason for the same and make your panelists understand it well. If you are able to convince them, then your gap does not affect your future endeavors.

In case of health issues, you should provide proof. Reasons such as job hunting or preparation for CAT might sound illogical to the one listed and thus might work in your favor. So it’s very important to prepare well in advance for this question.

It’s advisable to prepare for CAT and work alongside to gain experience rather than just taking a gap year for CAT preparation. B schools give great importance to work experience and a fresher's resume might not seem lucrative enough.

The gap year has zero effect on your MBA placements as these are based on parameters such as skills, quality of previous work experience, academic profile, etc.

Make the most out of your gap year to prove that it wasn’t a bad idea. Here are a few things you can do to utilize it to the maximum.

  • Professional Courses & Certifications
  • Online courses
  • Research papers
  • Live projects
  • Pursuing your interests

It’s safe to conclude that the gap year has no or very little impact on your MBA admission and all you need is a valid reason to justify it.

SM
Sharthak Mishra Posted On : February 4th, 2022
B.E. Mechanical Engineering, Savitribai Phule Pune University

According to the Pune University rules, the conversion of SGPA to percentage is done in the following way.

Percentage of marks(%) = CGPA * 8.80

Where, CGPA = \((\sum_{i=0}^{p} C_i G_i) /(\sum_{i=0}^{p} C_i)\)

CGPA = [\(\sum\)Grade points earned * Credits for each course] / Total Credits

Hope this clears your doubts.

How good is VIT Chennai?

GS
Gaurav Sinha Posted On : January 5th, 2021
B.Tech from IIT Guwahati (2020)

One of my friends graduated from VIT Chennai with a Mechanical Engineering major last year. It is one of the best colleges in Chennai and offers good placement opportunities for the students.

Infrastructure:

  • VIT Chennai has a stellar 192-acre campus. It comprises all facilities a student would need.
  • There are two academic blocks, auditoriums, conference halls, smart classrooms, and well-equipped general amenities.
  • The campus also boasts of state-of-the-art sports facilities and gyms.

Academics and Facilities:

When it comes to academics the college boasts of top-notch faculties and facilities.

  • The campus is well equipped with lab facilities for all the departments to explore your field of study.
  • The faculties are well qualified and have years of experience in teaching.

Teaching Methodology:

  • The teaching style followed by most of the faculty is the presentation method. Only a few faculties teach by following books.
  • The college follows the Fully Flexible Credit System that allows students to choose their own courses along with the faculties.
  • CAT 1, CAT 2, and FAT are the 3 divisions of semester examinations. The institute follows an open book examination system.
  • The students need to do projects for each and every subject in all the semesters. This helps the student with a better understanding of concepts.

Hostels:

  • There are 4 hostels in VIT Chennai 2 separate hostels each for boys and girls. The hostel provides 2 & 3 Bedded accommodation for the students.
  • The hostel also boasts of State-of-the-art Gym and Indoor games.
  • There are four messes that provide North Indian Veg, North Indian Non- Veg, South Indian foods. The fourth mess provides juices, milkshakes, etc.
  • For boys, the hostel time is 9.30 p.m.- 10 p.m. and for girls, in time is 7 p.m.

Placements:

Placements are great in VIT Chennai as the college has the reputation of providing placements for nearly all the students.

  • For 2019-20 a total of 713 companies came for recruitment and a total of 7771 offers were made. The students have the opportunity of bagging dream packages in core companies as well.
  • The highest package offered was 39 lakhs and the average package was 6.5 lakhs.

The competition in placement is fierce. Some recruiting companies choose 2 or 3 students out of 1000 applicants. Even if you have a good academic record, you have to do well in the placement to secure a job.

VIT Chennai will provide you access to top-quality education and will ensure you succeed in it. It is definitely one of the best places to do your graduation from.

How good is IGNOU?

HP
Harshita Poona Posted On : October 13th, 2022
Studied at Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU)

To be honest, IGNOU is an undesirable university in India. Don't believe those who claim that "it's the best open university" and other such nonsense. They don't give a damn about you, your future, or your time. When you go to the regional center, they tell you to go to the IGNOU headquarters. And the office of concern in the headquarter of Ignou will tell you to go to the post office, and the post office will tell you to bring the dispatch number from the headquarters of IGNOU, and they will tell you that the regional center will provide the dispatch number of the book but it would not get into your hands even at the end.

IGNOU is the worst open university; they value the number of students over the quality of education. They do nothing to help students, and IGNOU is just a big scam run by undeserving people and goons. It is strongly advised to avoid IGNOU. AMU and Jamia are far superior for open studies.

Why is BITS Pilani always compared to IIT?

SV
Sunita Verma Posted On : June 27th, 2023
studies at Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani

Both IITs and BITS are leading technical institutes in the country and are often compared to each other in terms of placements and the quality of education offered. While IIT is the dream college of many engineering aspirants you will be surprised to know that anyone who makes the bold decision of choosing BITS over IITs has never regretted it.

One of my friends recently joined BITS and was all praise for the institute. He got pre-placement offers from a six-month Practice School internship and also gained a lot of exposure through various clubs. His family had taken this decision after much anticipation preferring BITS over the IIT tag and their decision fetched big profits.

BITS has some unique aspects in contrast to IITs such as the No attendance rule followed in foreign universities. Moreover, BITS is considered highly in terms of industrial ties, placements, Practice School for Internship, clubs, academics, location, infrastructure, faculty pool, and the elaborate alumni base. All this makes BITS an excellent choice over IITs!
