JNU or DU which is a better university?

PB
Pratik Bahera Posted On : May 16th, 2022
Master's program from Jawaharlal Nehru University (2021)

JNU is a better option, especially for postgraduate degrees. JNU has a different aura altogether. The environment on campus is extremely accepting. You will meet people on campus who are intellectuals, readers, writers, and speakers. Simply being on JNU campus can be rewarding. It has a different culture entirely which motivates the holistic development of personality. JNU has an excellent faculty base.

In financial terms as well JNU is a better option. The course fees and hostel fees are lower compared to DU. As per JNU University course fees, an MSc degree costs around INR 692.

BITS Pilani hostels are decent with basic amenities. I am attaching a few photos of the boys' hostel for reference. I assume the facilities and rooms of the girls' hostel are similar if not better.

This is the newly renovated hostel below

Which is better BHU or DU?

SB
Siddharth Bansal Posted On : May 5th, 2026

BHU (Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi) vs DU (Delhi University) — depends heavily on what you're studying:

BHU advantages: central university, residential campus in Varanasi, strong STEM programs (IIT-BHU for engineering), excellent humanities and social sciences, affordable fees, iconic campus, rich cultural environment.

DU advantages: Delhi location (massive employment market), more recognized for economics, commerce, political science, English literature, journalism. DU college brand (St. Stephens, Hindu, SRCC) carries significant weight for certain careers. better for networking in business/media/government sectors.

by subject:

  • Sciences/research: BHU is genuinely excellent, sometimes better than DU for pure sciences
  • Commerce/Economics/MBA prep: DU (SRCC, Shri Ram) has edge
  • Humanities: roughly equal, different strengths (BHU for Sanskrit/classical; DU for modern humanities)
  • Campus life: BHU wins for residential experience. DU is urban/commuter-heavy

both are among India's finest universities. choice depends on your field and priorities.

PS
Pawan Sinha Posted On : August 19th, 2020
B.Tech Chemical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (2020)

The answer to these types of questions is prone to subjectivity. All the professors in IIT Delhi are highly qualified and well-experienced in their respective fields. Which makes it difficult to mansion the best professor at IIT Delhi. Mentioned below are a few professors who are popular among the students.

Prof. Ambuj Sagar- He never imposes his own view on the students and lets you think for yourself and make your own conclusions so that you are not left with any doubts.

Professor Vijayraghavan M. Chariar- He teaches Technological Alternatives for Rural Development. His unique way of teaching makes you grow as a person and widen your perspective. He believes in immersive experimental learning and organizes day trips during class timings so that his students can learn from real-life experiences. He is also an entrepreneur, having managed to bring about his own start-up Ekam Eco Solutions, where he promotes sustainable solutions to many different environmental problems.

Professor Paresh Choksi- He is among one of the brilliant minds in the Chemical Engineering department. Students thoroughly enjoy his course on Fluid Mechanics for his methodical and organized way of teaching.

Professor Anupam Sukla- He has a unique approach towards teaching which is focused in maximizing the learning experience of the students.

Professor M R Ravi- His course on Human Values and technology is completely discussion-based. For students, his course becomes a journey of self-discovery.
There are also many other professors who are worth mentioning, but the list is quite long.

Which is better, IIM Lucknow or SJMSOM (IIT B)? I am from an ECE background with 3 years of IT experience.

TM
Taara Malhotra Posted On : January 16th, 2023
PGP from Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (Graduated 2019)

SJMSOM at IIT B was founded in 1995, making it a relatively newer institution. But for a couple of years now, it has been making headlines because of some really outstanding profiles that were provided. Its core competencies are operations and supply chain management. There is no doubt that IIT B is the best choice if you want to work as a product manager. IIT B also has a beautiful campus with excellent facilities.

Additionally, it would give you the opportunity to take part in MOOD-I, the most significant cultural festival in all of Asia, which is held at IIT Bombay. With the well-known tech fests, there is another opportunity for you to participate. Furthermore, there are benefits to living in Mumbai. For guest lectures, the majority of the industry experts live nearby and are easily reachable.

IIM Lucknow was founded in 1984, so it has 11 batches more alumni than IIT B, resulting in approximately 3300 more alumni (considering 300 students per batch on average). It is also the fourth oldest IIM, following A, B, and C. You will gain a lot more industry experience, which will assist you in deciding what you truly want to do. In addition, IIM L offers better opportunities in Sales & Marketing, Consultancy, and BFSI than SJMSOM. Furthermore, you will be networking with a large number of students from all over the country and forming lifelong friendships. Furthermore, the IIM tag for a managerial position has an advantage over the IIT tag, which is still developing.

It would be fine if you went to IIM L, SJMSOM, or any other B school a few years later. When you switch from the first company you get after your placements, the new recruiters will be more interested in your work than in the college you attended. And the impact of your college's name gradually fades. What remains are the lessons you've learned and the memories you've made over the last two years.
