RJ
Rajgeet Joshi Posted On : November 9th, 2022
Studied BCom (Hons) at Sri Venkateswara College Delhi University (Graduated 2013)

My cousin was a student of Mathematics at Sri Venkateswara College. Based on her experience in the same I will list down some key features of the college:

  1. Faculty- The faculty of this college is without that the best. The professors of Mathematics and even other courses will make you fall in love with the subject. Just stay committed to your course.

  2. Infrastructure- Since you will spend a few years in college, infrastructure matters a lot. Classrooms are well-designed and laboratories are well-equipped. Hostel accommodation is provided for the topper of each course. A new science block is being constructed to add to its infrastructure.

  3. Extracurricular activities- If you are a student here, you will get enough exposure to develop your personality. Apart from academics, this college has a list of glamour studded societies in every field.

  5. Nexus- This is the most awaited cultural fest of the college. It’s a 3-day fest with a list of versatile activities. It’s the most glamorous event in the college.

  6. Sports- The college has a lush green field with a modern cricket pitch. It also has teams in almost every game like Cricket, Football, Badminton, Basketball, Volleyball, Tennis, Chess, Athletics, Squash.

Is there any quota for Delhi students in DU?

PS
Poonam Sharma Posted On : May 2nd, 2026

yes, there is a Delhi quota at DU but it works differently from what most people expect:

for UG admission via CUET: DU colleges don't have a formal state-based quota like NITs do. admission to all central universities is through CUET scores on All India merit. a student from Kerala can compete equally with a Delhi student for a DU seat.

however, there IS a functional advantage for Delhi students:

  • DU has specific wards of employees quota (for children of DU/Delhi Govt employees)
  • Kashmiri Migrants and certain minority/SC/ST quotas with Delhi domicile requirements
  • some affiliated Delhi colleges have special category seats for Delhi residents in specific courses

ECA (Extra Curricular Activity) and Sports quotas are also available — these are open to all but trials happen in Delhi, making it easier for local students practically.

the real Delhi advantage is in NRI quota and management quota at some colleges where Delhi residents may get preference.

bottom line: DU undergraduate admission via CUET has no official Delhi state quota for general merit seats. it's All India merit. the quotas that exist are institutional (employees, minority, sports/ECA) not purely geography-based. check the specific DU admission brochure each year for the exact seat matrix.

How is IIM Calcutta for the advanced program in data science, 1 year certification course? Is it better than the ISB Hyderabad course and IIITB PGD in data analytics?

AR
Ayush Raj Posted On : November 24th, 2022
PGDM from Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (Graduated 1994)

In my opinion, the IIM APDS is just an average course. ISB Hyderabad course is much better. It’s better to do Data Science courses from technical universities rather than Management colleges like IIM. Also, the IIM APDS course is quite expensive and more like a BA course than Data Science. It focuses more on Business Mathematics/ Business case study discussion than how to explore a data set.

ISBs course best among these courses because it has all the things that are required:

  • Brand

  • Faculty

  • Industry Connect

  • Curriculum

  • Alumni

Also this course has more time for all the subjects and capstone projects too. The only drawback is the high fees.

The entrance exam for MA Political Science at DU was once a descriptive exam, but recently it has changed to an objective one. Exam format:
  • 100 questions with answer choices(MCQs)
  • 120 minutes is the total duration of the exam.
  • Total marks are 400.
  • Marks per correct answer is 4.
  • General cutoff is 40 (on average)
  • Negative grades for DU MA political science: yes (1/4)

It is advised to read the references below:

  1. Gupta DU political science book. (Be cautious of answers)
  2. Objective political science by Gupta.
The syllabus is divided into six areas:
  • Political theory
  • Political thought (western and Indian)
  • Comparative politics and political analysis
  • Indian constitution
  • Public administration

In terms of preparation, self-study is the best method of learning.

Which college is better for Computer Science/ Computer Engineering in India - IIIT Delhi or NSIT?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : August 22nd, 2023
Founder, NextBigWhat

For a better understanding, I will compare both IIIT Delhi and NSIT Delhi based on some common aspects

  • Placement : The placement scenario of both the institutes is similar with IIIT Delhi having a slight advantage. NIST's median package stood at INR 16 LPA while IIIT Delhi's average package stood at INR 23.72 LPA
  • Campus : NSIT has a higher campus than IIIT Delhi but is old. IIIT Delhi is a relatively new institute so its infrastructure and campus facilities are modern.
  • Hostels : NSIT has bigger rooms than IIIT Delhi but IIIT DELHI has rooms with better facilities. There is the provision of AC at night in summer and a heater at night in winter.
  • Faculty : IIIT DELHI is the clear winner as its faculty pool is even better than some IITs.
  • Reputation : Being older NSIT enjoys a better brand value and recognition both in and outside India.
  • Coding Culture : IIIT DELHI has a much better coding culture than NSUT because the institute is CS centered.
  • Fees : IIIT Delhi charges higher fees around ?4.62 Lakhs (1st Year Fees) while NSIT fees are around ?2.29 Lakhs (1st Year Fees)
  • Clubs : NSUT has a better campus life and extracurricular culture because of the various clubs so it has an edge in this aspect.
  • Campus Life: IIIT Delhi has a very rigorous and tiresome campus life while NSIT has a more laid-back campus life.
  • Curriculum : IIIT DELHI has a more updated and modern curriculum in comparison to NSITs outdated curriculum irreverent to the industrial trends.

Overall, if you want a rigorous campus life more focused on academics choose IIIT Delhi but if you are looking for a relaxed experience NSIT is the one for you.

Is BITS Pilani better than NIT Warangal?

AS
Aishwarya Shastri Posted On : August 19th, 2023
Lives in Hyderabad

The answer varies with the branch you are offered at both these institutions. I will give you an idea for some common branches to make the decision easier for you-

  1. The Civil branch of NIT Warangal is slightly better than BITS Pilani. However, there is not much difference and you can go to either for your Civil.
  2. The Mechanical of BITS Pilani is better. However, for a future in research or entrepreneurship, choose Mechanical at NITW.
  3. For ECE, BITS Pilani is better than NITW. The faculty for ECE at NITW is extremely strict and the curriculum is much tougher than required at the UG level.
  4. For CS, if you are really passionate about this field, join IIIT Hyderabad. The CS faculty at NITW is as good as IIIT Hyderabad, but the peer group at NITW won’t be as passionate and dedicated. But among the options stated by you, NITW and BITS Pilani are equally good.
  5. Biotechnology- If you are interested in research and higher studies in this field, NIT Warangal is a good option. NITW will offer you study abroad programs and funded research if you show interest and dedication towards this field. The peer group, however, won’t be too good. The faculty for Biotech at NIT Warangal is great.

These are some of the common branches that you can choose at either of the institutions. Both NIT Warangal and BITS Pilani are great institutions and at the end, your hardwork and dedication will decide your future.

The faculty is also extremely qualified and helpful. Distance education from AU is thus a viable option.
