What does the term look like at IIM Sirmaur?

Epil Gagrai Posted On : May 8th, 2024

Since IIM Sirmaur still operates from a temporary campus, it does not offer as much rigor as other B-Schools. Every term is of three months and typically, in the 1st year, every term has 9-10 mandatory courses. Every course has a unique grading system set by the faculty member. Almost all the courses require a student to prepare a final group project. The guidelines of the group projects are circulated within 2-weeks of the commencement of the course. Every course has a Mid-Term which takes place after 1.5 months and an End-Term at the end of the term. The marking scheme varies from faculty to faculty. During the term-exams, the students are not given any holidays in between the exams and every day, at most two exams take place. The final week of the term is extremely hectic as the deadlines of all the group projects are scheduled in the final week along with presentations of almost all the projects. Hence, it is advisable to complete the projects 1-2 weeks before the deadline. The second year is less exhausting as each term has only 6-7 courses while the 6th term has only 3 courses. Midterms are usually not held in the second year and the volume of classes per week is also very less.

How do I prepare for the MTE exam of LPU?

AS
Ashish Solanki Posted On : May 8th, 2024
BTech CSE student at LPU

I am a third year B.Tech CSE student at LPU. Thus I am experienced enough to answer your query-

  • In the first year, you’ll have an MTE for every subject except the labs.
  • From 2nd to 4th year, some subjects from your syllabus won’t have MTEs.
  • MTE is an important part of your result. For a subject in MTE, you’ll be marked out of 40. This total will be further converted to 20 at a later stage.
  • The MTE syllabus is the first 3 units of every subject. Look at your syllabus file, and make note of the first 3 units and their respective topics.
  • Next, prepare topic-wise. If you pay attention in the lectures, half of your work is done.
  • Prepare from books, and not PPTs. PPTs are good for revision, but books will give you a clear understanding of a concept.

These are the things I have been following to prepare for MTEs at LPU. I hope these suggestions will be of help to you.

If I am not able to qualify LPUNEST, can I still get admission in LPU?

AC
Aditi Chauhan Posted On : May 8th, 2024
B.Tech student at LPU

The mandatory requirement to clear LPUNEST is subject to which course you want to seek admission into.

  • For B.Tech, MBA, Agricultural courses- You need to clear the LPUNEST

But if you clear a national level exam that is recognised by LPU for admissions and you fulfill the university’s eligibility requirements, you can seek admission into these courses without clearing LPUNEST.

  • For BBA, BA, BCom- For these programs, LPUNEST is not mandatory

But if you want to be eligible for scholarship, then you will have to clear the exam for these courses as well.

This is the complete breakdown of the LPUNEST requirement (whether it is mandatory to clear this exam or not).

How do I calculate the CGPA for LPU?

AR
Anvesh Kumar Reddy Posted On : May 7th, 2024
Lovely Professional University, Jalandhar

LPU follows CGPA i.e., Cumulative Grade Point Average as a grading system to help students evaluate their progress in their respective courses. Students are provided grades based on their marks. To calculate the CGPA, students have to divide their total grade points for all semester subjects by the total number of credit hours attended.

For a CGPA out of ten, students can divide their percentage by 9.5 and the resulting sum will be the CGPA. Points for various grades are mentioned in the following table.

Grade Points
O 10
A+ 9
A 8
B+ 7
B 6
C 5
D 4
E (Reappear) 0
F (Fail), G (Backlog) 0

During the LPU admission process, will I interact with faculty members or student committees?

V
Vaishnavi Posted On : May 6th, 2024
B.Tech (Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning) from LPU

At LPU, a dedicated team of staff within the admissions department primarily handles the admission process. These are not faculty members or student committees. They're trained staff who specialize in guiding new students through the application, document verification, and enrollment procedures. While you might encounter faculty members at an information session or during a campus tour, the admissions department handles the day-to-day process.

How strict is LPU as far as the admission documents are concerned?

B.Tech (Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning) from LPU

You need to be very careful regarding the documents required, as you need 10th and 12th passing certificates and mark sheets of the same, a Transfer Certificate from school, a character certificate, an Aadhaar Card, an LPUNEST scorecard, and photographs. If any of the documents are missing, they will give 30 days to submit them; if students fail to do so, strict actions are taken by the University.

Do I receive a roll number before or after completing the LPU admission process?

V

B.Tech (Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning) from LPU

You are not given a roll number beforehand at LPU. Your roll number is assigned after you complete the admission process. Roll numbers are typically used for administrative purposes like class attendance and exams. Since you wouldn't be enrolled in classes until after admission is finalized, assigning a roll number before then wouldn't make sense. This process is done after all the students have completed their admission process.

At what time does the admission and document verification process typically start at LPU?

V
Vaishnavi Posted On : May 6th, 2024
B.Tech (Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning) from LPU

While the university doesn't specify a single starting time for admissions, their process generally begins at 9 am. However, this doesn't necessarily mean your appointment will be at exactly 9 am. They likely schedule appointments throughout the day to avoid overcrowding. Here's the key takeaway: Focus on your scheduled appointment time, which should be clearly stated on your confirmation documents. Aim to arrive at least 1 hour before your designated time to ensure a smooth experience on your admission day.

I have an admission appointment at LPU soon. How early should I arrive on the day of admission?

V
Vaishnavi Posted On : May 6th, 2024
B.Tech (Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning) from LPU

Planning your arrival time for your LPU admission is crucial! The university recommends arriving 1 hour before your scheduled appointment. This buffer allows for unexpected delays and helps ensure a smoother process. But if you're worried about long lines, especially during peak admission times, consider arriving even earlier. An extra hour gives you peace of mind and allows you to settle in before your official paperwork. Remember, it's better to be safe than sorry on such an important day!
