Yadapadithaya retires, Jayaraj Amin takes charge as acting Mangalore University VC

New Delhi: Vice-Chancellor PS Yadapadithaya of Mangalore University announced his resignation on Friday after serving in the position for four years.

The acting vice-chancellor, Jayaraj Amin, was chosen by the state government and replaced Yadapadithaya on Friday evening.

Jayaraj Amin is a professor and the head of the political science department at Mangalagangothri University. Amin has thirty years of experience as a teacher. Additionally, he has held a number of positions at Mangalore University.

According to Mangalore University registrar Kishore Kumar CK, the most senior dean or chairman is taken into consideration for the role of acting vice chancellor. There were four names submitted to the government, and Jayaraj Amin was picked. If a permanent appointment of VC is not made as soon as possible, Kumar asserts that Amin may continue to work as VC until March 2024.

‘I have done my best’

Yadapadithaya stated that his four years as vice-chancellor provided him with a wealth of educational opportunities. "More importantly, the epidemic made me realise how important it is to assist others. After taking over as vice-chancellor, I had to overcome a number of challenges.”

Yadapadithaya added that he is the first vice chancellor of Mangalore University to have both his studies and employment on the same campus. "Being vice-chancellor from the same university one is from, has its own advantages and disadvantages," he continued.

The search committee's chairman has not yet been chosen by the government.

The government announces a search committee as the first step in the process of choosing a new vice chancellor for the university. Despite the formation of a search committee, the administration has not yet named a chairperson.

There are now four candidates vying for the position of vice chancellor, according to sources at Mangalore University. The retirement age for two of them has already passed. A candidate for the position of VC is required by the guidelines to have a minimum of 10 years of experience teaching as a professor in a university.
