New Delhi: The Supreme Court has issued a notice on the plea seeking postponement of the NEET MDS 2024 exam. The bench has denied granting any relief to the aspirants, stating that "It's only a matter of cut-off date". The next hearing is on February 21, 2024.
Earlier, a petition was filed urging the NMC to postpone the NEET MDS exam date to July 2024 and extend the internship cut-off date. The All India Students' Union (AISU) wrote a letter to Prime Minister, Union Health Minister and NBEMS, requesting a rescheduling of the NEET MDS 2024 exam.
According to the student group, this decision is expected to impact more than 25,000 NEET MDS aspirants. The bench, consisting of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, heard the matter.
Today we've sent a representation to @NbeIndia, DCI, @MoHFW_INDIA & @PMOIndia on behalf of NEET MDS aspirants. Hoping our solicitation for #PostponeNEETMDS2024toJULY will be taken into consideration. It'll be a colossal relief for all NEET MDS aspirants. #POSTPONENEETMDS2024 pic.twitter.com/JmgLYTsWEN

All India Students' Union emphasised that the NEET PG 2024 exam, initially scheduled for March 3, 2024, was postponed to July 7, 2024, and the candidates were informed six months before the exam.
However, the NEET MDS 2024 exam date was postponed from February 9, 2024, to March 18, 2024, in January, giving candidates only two months' notice.
The NMC had scheduled the internship cut-off date for NEET PG at August 15, 2024, while the deadline for NEET MDS is March 31, 2024. The last date for NEET MDS 2024 registration is February 19, 2024.
Reason for Postponement of NEET MDS 2024
Students have requested the postponement of NEET MDS 2024 Exam Date. They demanded that if the exam will be conducted in March 2024, the NEET MDS counselling process will not commence soon.
As per the students, the counselling process is for both NEET PG and NEET MDS. So, as the NEET PG counselling is postponed to July 2024, NEET MDS counselling is undoubtedly not happening soon which is an injustice for students appearing for the exam.
The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) holds a standard counselling process for NEET PG and MDS exams. However, the admission process will only start after completing the NEET PG internship deadline in August 2024.
Last year, while instructing officials to reschedule the NEET MDS exam, the Telangana High Court emphasised the need for a common cut-off date for candidates who have completed MBBS and BDS nationwide, ensuring sufficient preparation time for NEET.
