Pondicherry University Alerts Students Against Unaffiliated Usha Latchumanan College of Education

According to the Pondicherry University statement, Usha Latchumanan College of Education, Thirukannur, Puducherry has not been granted affiliation for the academic sessions 2019 – 2020, 2020 – 2021 and 2021 – 2022.

The college has not been affiliated as it is not facilitated with good infrastructure and facilities to operate the college of education.

Further, the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has also provided a show cause notification to the Usha Latchumanan College of Education, for its non-compliance on certain issues.

The university has stated that the Madras High Court has dissolved the writ petition filed by the College against the University and NCTE for the purpose of affiliation.

The university’s statement revealed that the Madras High Court noticed in its proceedings dated September 7, 2021 that taking into account the facts and circumstances and the serious deficiencies that have been highlighted against the petitioner institution both by the NCTE and Pondicherry University, this court does not find any ground to interrupt with the decision taken by the NCTE and Pondicherry University.

As per the statement, the institution cannot be permitted to run in this manner and that the future of all those budding teachers will be uncertain.

There are no merits in both the writ petitions and the attempt of the petitioner institution seems to be to get some interim order from the Madras high court every time and continue to function the institution. Such a practice has to be put to a conclusion by the Court.

By stating this, the university has advised the students to not take admission in the college.

Further, the university has requested the students to check the infrastructure facilities, availability of required faculties, courses and the affiliation orders of PU before joining any institution of higher education in the Union Territory.
