In a significant move aimed at streamlining the application process and minimizing data errors, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced major changes to the JEE Main 2026 registration. In a public notice dated October 19, NTA announced the opening of Session 1 applications in October 2025 and Session 2 in last week of January 2026. This year, NTA will utilize Aadhaar authentication to automatically retrieve and pre-fill a candidate's essential personal details into the application form.
Mandatory Aadhaar Authentication
Under the new system, the NTA will auto-fetch basic candidate information directly from the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) database using the aspirant’s Aadhaar Number. This mechanism is designed to simplify the form-filling experience for lakhs of students.
The following core details will be automatically obtained from the Aadhaar database:
- Candidate’s Name
- Date of Birth
- Gender
- Photograph
- Residential Address
Candidates will, however, be required to manually enter the details of their Father, Mother, or Guardian, as this information is not recorded in the Aadhaar database.
NTA Pre-Advisory on Data Consistency
To ensure a smooth procedural experience, the National Testing Agency had issued a public notice on September 29, 2025, strongly advising all JEE Main 2026 aspirants to update their Aadhaar Cards to ensure their personal details (Name, Date of Birth, etc.) are in complete alignment with their Class 10 Educational Certificates/Marksheets.
To address common discrepancies, the NTA will provide an option for edits during the online application process for any mismatch found in the candidate’s name between their Aadhaar Card and the Class 10 Educational Certificate/Marksheet.
The NTA has successfully addressed widespread speculation that JEE Main 2026 exam city allocation would be strictly tied to the address on the Aadhaar card. NTA has dismissed claims of removing the choice option. Candidates will retain the option to select their preferred exam cities.
