The SC indicated that the NEET UG 2024 was compromised stating that a re-test would be considered based on the severity of the leak.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India heard 38 petitions on the NEET UG 2024 scam on July 8, 2024. A bench led by the CJI DY Chandrachud said that the NEET UG 2024 paper has been compromised. According to the SC, the decision to hold a re-test depends on determining whether the leak was extensive or an isolated case. However, it cautioned that if the NEET UG 2024 paper leak occurred on social media, it likely spread rapidly, like “wildfire.”
The SC ordered the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to file a report on the status of its investigation before the next date of hearing which is scheduled for July 11, 2024. The National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducts the exam, has been instructed to provide details about the paper leak. They need to explain the nature of the leak and how long it took place before the actual exam.
The Bench, comprising the CJI, Justice J.B. Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, also heard nearly 30 petitions. These petitions asked for a new exam due to issues like paper leaks, OMR sheet manipulation, impersonation and cheating. However, the Centre and the NTA told the Supreme Court that cancelling the exam would harm many honest candidates without proof of a large-scale breach. Amid all these, a new petition by 56 students aimed to prevent the Centre and the NTA from cancelling the NEET UG exam is facing controversy.
The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) planned to start the counselling process for All India Quota (AIQ) undergraduate medical seats on July 6. However, the NEET UG 2024 counselling has now been postponed until further notice.
Last month, the Supreme Court refused to delay the counselling process for the disputed NEET-UG 2024 exam, even though a petition requested a two-day pause. The NTA informed the Supreme Court that counselling would begin on July 6.
