NEET UG re examination scheduled for June 21, 2026, will push back engineering and pharmacy college admissions in Maharashtra beyond June end. The CET Cell cannot begin admission rounds until revised NEET results are declared.

Maharashtra's engineering and pharmacy admissions face significant delays due to the NEET-UG re-examination scheduled for June 21, 2026. The state's Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell relies on NEET scores for nine specialized engineering branches and 15 percent pharmacy seats under the all-India quota. With revised results unlikely before mid-July, the entire admission timeline has been disrupted.
The NEET paper leak on May 3, 2026, forced the National Testing Agency (NTA) to cancel the original exam and schedule a retest. Maharashtra Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil confirmed that engineering admissions cannot proceed independently because many students decide between medicine and engineering only after NEET results are declared. The state had originally planned to complete admissions by June-end to restore pre-COVID academic calendars.

Engineering Courses Affected by NEET Score Requirement
Nine specialized engineering branches depend on NEET scores for admissions in Maharashtra. These include:
- Agricultural Engineering
- Biotechnology
- Food Engineering
- Leather Technology
- Packaging Technology
- Pharmaceutical Engineering
- Printing Engineering
- Fashion Technology
- Textile Chemistry
Excluding these courses from admissions would be unfair to students who haven't yet decided between medicine and engineering.
Why Engineering Admissions Cannot Begin Without NEET Results
A large number of candidates appear for both NEET and MHT-CET examinations. Many students make their final career choice between medicine and engineering only after NEET results are announced. Starting engineering admissions before NEET results would disadvantage students who might qualify for medical seats. Officials emphasized that the entire engineering admission process must wait for NEET clarity.
Pharmacy Seats Under All-India Quota Delayed
Fifteen percent of pharmacy seats in Maharashtra are reserved under the all-India quota and require NEET scores. These seats cannot be filled until the re-examination is completed and results are declared. The delay will compress the entire pharmacy admission timeline, potentially affecting college opening dates.

Impact on Maharashtra's Academic Calendar
The state had planned to declare the second MHT-CET result by June 15 and align all admissions accordingly. With NEET results expected only by mid-July, the Centralised Admission Process (CAP) rounds will stretch well beyond the usual schedule. Colleges across Maharashtra will face delays in starting their academic sessions, affecting both students and institutions.
What’s Next for Students
Candidates appearing for the NEET re-exam should focus on preparation and stay updated on official NTA announcements. Download admit cards promptly by June 14 and verify all details carefully. Keep important documents ready including:
- Admit Card
- Valid ID Proof
- Required documents mentioned in exam instructions
Once NEET results are declared by mid-July, the CET Cell will begin CAP rounds for engineering and pharmacy admissions. Candidates will need to register for counselling and fill their course preferences. The entire admission and seat allotment process is expected to conclude by August 2026, allowing colleges to begin their academic sessions with a compressed timeline.
