Delhi University will accept GATE scores for MTech admission 2026 in Microwave and Communication Engineering, marking the first time the university is using GATE for a postgraduate program. GATE-qualified candidates will get first preference.

University of Delhi has announced a historic decision to accept GATE scores for admission to its MTech programme in Microwave and Communication Engineering from the 2026 academic session. This marks the first time Delhi University will use GATE scores for any postgraduate degree programme.
Previously, DU only accepted GATE scores for PhD admissions. The decision comes after the programme received approval from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). This move aims to streamline admissions and attract quality candidates with strong technical aptitude. Candidates with valid GATE scores will receive first preference during the admission process.

Eligibility Criteria
You must have a B.Tech, BE, BSc Engineering, MSc, or equivalent degree in a relevant discipline from a recognized university or institution. Eligible branches include Electronics and Communication Engineering (EC), Electrical Engineering (EE), Instrumentation Engineering (IN), and Radio Physics and Electronics Engineering. Candidates must meet programme-specific eligibility conditions mentioned in admission guidelines.
Admission Process
GATE-qualified candidates will be given first preference during merit list preparation. If seats remain vacant after GATE-based admissions, the university will consider CUET-PG candidates in their respective categories. Category-wise merit lists will be prepared based on valid GATE scores. A separate admission portal will be used for MTech admissions, not the Common Seat Allocation System for PG (CSAS-PG).
Why This Change?
According to Haneet Gandhi, Dean of Admissions at Delhi University, this programme already existed but the admission process has been revised following AICTE approval. The decision to accept GATE scores aligns with national standards for technical postgraduate admissions. This change makes DU's MTech programme more competitive and attracts candidates with proven technical aptitude.
