The SC court refused to order an immediate CBI investigation on the NEET UG 2024 discrepancies.
New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India denied issuing a stay order on the NEET UG 2024 counselling which is scheduled tentatively for the 1st week of July. The SC also denied issuing an immediate CBI probe into the NEET UG 2024 scam controversies.
On June 14, 2024, a vacation bench headed by Justice Vikram Nath Sandeep Mehta issued a notice to the central government and the NTA on a plea ordering a CBI investigation on the NEET UG 2024 paper leak scam. The SC also issued a notice on the NTA’s plea for the transfer of the petition from the high court to the apex court. The SC will hear the plea on July 8, 2024.
The SC also showed concern about the transparency of the examination and said, “If there is 0.001% negligence on the part of anyone it should be thoroughly dealt with”. The bench also stated that the hard work of students must not go in vain.
Earlier, various petitions were filed against issues like the NEET UG 2024 paper leak, late question paper distribution, unfair grace marks, counselling delay and a significant increase in the highest marks. On June 13, 2024, the SC ordered the cancellation of the NEET UG 2024 scorecards of the 1563 students who received unfair grace marks. These students were given options to either choose to appear for the re-exam on June 23, 2024 or stay with their original scorecard without grace marks.
As per the NTA, the NEET UG 2024, the re-exam result will be released on or before June 30, 2024 and the counselling process will commence on July 6, 2024. The newly appointed Education Minister of India Dharmendra Pradhan refused all the malpractices during the NEET UG 2024 after the SC came with a verdict of re-exam for 1563 students.
